The Crystal Heart is the reason the planet Firrhna can have little to no tectonic activity but still have a magnetic field.
The planet itself is basically a massive geode, filled with a resonant electrolytic crystal which has interesting magnetic properties when it resonates. As the planet rotates, the Crystal Heart resonates with itself and produces the planet's magnetic field, protecting the atmosphere from the solar winds. The compounds from this crystal are also found in the water supply, giving the "doped" water electrolytic properties and making it into a viable method of transmitting electricity.
