Been trying a few SMW hacks. Super Mario Bros. 1X is quite good. (Video) It's a SMW hack but it's done in the style of All-Stars graphically and features levels and gameplay mechanics from a whole bunch of Mario games (including levels straight out of Super Mario Land and SMB2US). It starts out with a fairly normal degree of difficulty (about the same as the original games) but gets progressively harder and by W-6 or 7 it starts to be relatively challenging but never frustratingly so. |

Posted by wertigon Oh yeah, at least the good ones do. This hack works on bsnes, higan and Snes9x (and should work on hardware obviously). The "hack was only tested on ZSNES" era is gone for good it seems. I think smwcentral will indicate when a hack has issues on hardware(/good SNES emulators). Not sure if they even accept new submissions where it only works on ZSNES. |

Posted by hunterk I'm normally not a big fan of super defensive plays like JWong's but his Poison is fun to watch. I just don't want a CC 2019 finals with nothings but Rashid/Ibuki/Karin/Akuma... Posted by hunterk Ha, I was just thinking the same. Looks like the full game is finally being released. Gill looks pretty good imo. Random history but back in SFIII, Gill's blue/red asymmetrical design was mostly a way to showcase some kind of color swap effect (in order to avoid the SFII Sagat's eye-patch changing sides issue because of sprite mirroring). Final standing: https://capcomprotour.com/standings/?circuit=2019®ion=global&pg=1&list_view=&lang=en-us Top-32 but there are 6 places I think that were reserved auto-qualifiers, one for each region so some players in the ~26th-32th range might not have enough points to qualify. |

Posted by creaothceann That was quite surprising when I first saw it. Played it a bit and while the jump physics/controls are not the best it's still extremely impressive on a technical level, even more impressive considering it's a homebrew game since the SNES has never been known afaik, for its strong homebrew library. |

CC 2019 starts tomorrow. Well, technically there was the Last Chance Qualifier today (it's still going as of this post so no idea who's going to be the 32th player). Apparently Capcom had some logistic issues so they couldn't do a proper broadcast with commentators and things like that so the best we got is players who attended the event like Snake Eyez being able to film the matches live with their phones (it's...not great). Tomorrow will have a proper stream for top-32 though. Sunday, I think, is top 8/finals. https://www.twitch.tv/capcomfighters |

Well, despite their ups and downs at least they've made it through which is more than what can be said from things like Konami and other ex big Japanese names like that I guess. |

Recently re-played through NES-troid which was a while since I did, and I stumbled upon this: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3234/ It's a Super Metroid hack which aims to recreate the first game's map, but with SM's engine of course. I haven't played it through yet, but from what little I played it looks like it has done a decent job: there's no wall jumping afaik, you can't just shoot the blocks to go to Kraid's lair; you need the bomb like you did in the first game etc. One thing is sorely missing though: the first game's music. Instead, we get SM's music from where you arrive on the planet, and that's just not the same. |

When Idom switched to Poison against Punk in the finals I thought, Wtf? Why would he switch now when his Laura was so dominant until now and was able to reset and he won 5 matches back to back, but seems it was the right call. Punk kind of fell apart after the reset while Idom was able to keep it together. Understandably, the pressure must have been insane for both players. Heart-rates probably above 120 bpm. There's some pretty big balance changes in this update so we'll have to see how this affects 'Gief. His new v-skill II seem to be some kind of wrestling-type kick...counter, I think, not sure. It was shown briefly during the reveal here (looks pretty similar to the one Kenny Omega gave Ono before the reveal actually heh ). Let's hope it's more useful than his "Tundra Storm" kick counter because I don't think I've ever seen that move connect in a real match once. Well, time to download the 25GB update... |

Last Chance Qualifier for Red Bull Kumite yesterday https://www.twitch.tv/videos/524249503 Couple of matches with timestamps: StormKubo - Matsuhige Itazan - Noguti Gunfight - Jyobin Gunfight - Moke StormKubo - Kenpi Grand Finals - StormKubo(W) - Infiltration(L) Sucks that there were apparently lag on 2P side on last CC (probably came from the splitter setup I'm guessing) but this event looked much better organized. Not sure about Rashid's V-Skill-II...reminds me a bit of SFIV El-Fuerte ("Air-Fuerte" maybe). Top-16 today/Japan's Sunday. Starts in about 3 hours as of this at https://www.twitch.tv/redbull/ |

Amazingly enough, Kichipamu used the Tundra counter once in one his match. But yeah, it's just too situational and too risky in most cases to be worth it when you can often use something like EX SPD in those scenarios (or even EX running Bear Grab/Power Bomb since it has armor). It looks cool, but that's pretty much it. Menat's zoning is mitigated by her crap defensive options, especially when she's in the corner. I think she's not that bad on the BS meter (she's probably a really bad match up for Gief though). Rashid otoh... The main event yesterday was probably the best SFV tournament ever imo. Not only many of the matches great but everything about the show was top notch; production, pre-show, location, audience (there were actually "Ohhhhs!" and "Ahhhhs!" from the audience) and overall performance. Heck, even the "How to Kumite" interludes. Seriously, it was worth it just for the initial random bracket drawing or the Grand Finals entrance. Transparent Obstacle - Gauntlet IV (Megadrive) Never even heard of this port of Gauntlet for the Gen/Megadrive but it's a pretty damn good port. And the soundtrack is pretty good. Beverly Hills Cop - Main Theme (Amiga) (Great rendition but fairly average game aside from that) |

Evo 2020 Finals EVO Japan 2020: Tekken 7 - TOP 8 (Leroy Edition) EVO Japan 2020: SFV - TOP 8 EVO Japan 2020: Samurai Shodown - TOP 8 Good to see a bit more variety in SFV tournaments now that the top is not dominated so much by the Karins and the 'kumas crew. Don't really play Tekken but uh, that new Leroy character seem to be popular. |

Played a bit of LttP Randomizer. It's pretty interesting (until you have everything except the bow and you have to search literally every possible location for it because you've been dealt an unlucky random seed). I prefer the vanilla game but it's definitely a neat concept. Before there was Duke Nukem there was Dynamite Duke. There was a MD port which was pretty competent. |

Jesus... can't even imagine what's the situation like in Venezuela. They're also closing the schools here (although our 4mo daughter is obviously a tad too young for school so at least no need to worry about that). We're avoiding any kind of hospitals; only small clinics with appointment so as to avoid having to wait with a bunch of potentially sick people for long periods (although infants are supposed to actually be at lower risk). Tbh, I don't remember having seen anything like that. I just hope this whole thing turns out not as bad as some of the worse-case scenarios -certain countries like Germany could end up with a 70% infection rate according to some. |
