Am considering purchasing a PC to essentially act as a local server to files I have and am looking for recommendations.

You can probably get a used Thinkstation with at least Gigabit LAN (or similar units from other manufacturers) on the cheap, and invest in a handful of multi-TB SATA HDDs to slap in them. As for OS, I've been using XigmaNAS and it's been working great for networked home storage. I don't even use the advanced features on it, just had mine set up with RAIDz2 pool and snapshots, and a few other odds and ends.

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

Just watched the Re:Zero OVA "Memory Snow". :)

Watched that recently. Probably the last time everyone will be together in a celebratory setting for quite a while :P

Unless you put them in a high-school crossover with three other popular isekai titles.

The biggest question in my head at the moment is: what was the motive?

Although I could imagine it might've been a disgruntled employee or something... still not a reason to cause death and injury to others

Apparently they've been receiving death threats for some time from someone who claims they plagiarized his work.

I would ask the perp pics or gtfo, but I'll let the law take its course.

Japan does a lot of things right, but sometimes you wonder how on Earth they manage to get by with such a striking lack of common sense.

As they say, common sense is not common... that's why laws have been put in place. But then again, if laws were established using common sense, but common sense is not common...

Seriously though, I imagine it's hard to prepare contingencies for things like death threats, especially since its nature can be very vague and you don't know the probability of any one person actually going through with it.

If you were trapped like that wouldn't you just open a window and lean out of it for air? Obviously this'd provide oxygen for the fire but still...

If the staff didn't have a robust fire plan in place, they might not have known what to do. Also, considering the majority of materials in the building, the spread of the fire would've been crazy rapid and they simply might not have had enough time to react.

I read about the work environment in most animation studios and how artists are usually poorly paid and treated like crap; and KyoAni was one of the few studios who actually provide fair wages, some benefits, and even some support for staff for skills development and stuff. I just feel worse knowing that they were one of the better companies around and this happens to them.

Seriously though, everything seems to be going the way of always-online gaming. Before that happens I'll be backing up all my GOG installers before they decide you need an online account to play Tyrian 2K.

hardly anyone plays offline anyway
Hi, my name is Kawa. I vastly prefer to play by myself because Hell is other people, and I am hardly anyone.

Same. I shouldn't be obligated to play online just everyone else is doing it. On a more pragmatic level, I'm not harming anyone by NOT doing it, so why should I be forced to do so?

I'm curious whether I should that give that a go or not.

Wifey and I binged One Punch Man over the weekend; having seen season 1 when it first came out and comparing season 2 I can understand the disappointment of fans. Something about the direction and definitely a lot about the art was not bad, but at most was just

We also watched I Want To Eat your Pancreas, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, and Into the Forest of Fireflies over the past three evenings. They're all pretty good and definitely recommended if you're looking for feature-length offerings. Personally, not the typical stuff I'd choose to watch on my own, but only because I stuff I watch are typically more shounen or hard sci-fi based. And admittedly, I seem to be quicker to waterworks for some time now than I'd like to admit, guess it comes with age :P

Also saw Aggretsuko S2 last night which was a nice switch of pace from the above titles. Working in a professional business setting is hard XD

I don't how accurate this is but I guess aircraft control software has nothing on the average tech-loaded car nowadays: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/millions-lines-of-code/
Around an order of magnitude greater lines of code, it's amazing we can actually get anywhere these days without something blowing up, crashing, driving us off a cliff, launching nukes, whatever.

The tablet will occasionally shit the bed, and nothing else will happen.

Unfortunately, the concerning part is that those systems are getting a bit too integrated (especially with all the active safety) that there is a not insignificant probability of an actual driving issue occurring due to some glitch with the navinfotainment system.

That's nothing. I literally had to print a form, fill it in, sign it, and snail mail it back internationally to the bank in my country of birth (I use it to transfer funds to my parents) in order to update my registered mobile number just so I could actually use their newly updated online/mobile service.

They're not concerned about housing shortages. They continue to build houses for no reason. Pension and the economy are the main issues, here. But managing the economy has nothing to do with it. It's about raising a society who are obsessed with working and have no time for children and/or relationships. Immigration laws are the main issue, now.

Haven't kept up with initiatives there so I'm curious, are they still pushing for young adults to... like, get it on? I understand the population distribution there is out of whack, and like you mentioned, unless they seriously start opening the gates to immigration, it's not likely for the situation to improve anytime soon.

yes unfortunately I think there was very little time to react. The thick black smoke will incapacitate someone very quickly and before they know what's going on it will render you unconscious fast...
And not just that, it's also very hazardous to the first responders
