I've done it! Finally! I've upgraded the CPU, Motherboard and RAM! Almost wrecked the CPU/Motherboard in the process lmfao. When we first installed the Noctua Heatsink we had it oriented the wrong way and the thermal paste we were using was like glue. When we finally got the heatsink off to re-orient it we ended up yanking the CPU out of the socket too (still stuck to the heatsink) even though the Restraint Bar was locked in place... thankfully the CPU survived unscathed. Then we realized the plastic doohickeys that the Heatsink Fans press against can simply be pulled off and moved to the other side of the heatsink and we never had to remove the heatsink in the first place >.> Also I used waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much Thermal Paste, practically all 3.5g of Arctic Silver Ceramic 2 paste (non-conductive) >.>" so we'll see how that goes lol (usually my dad applies the stuff). I also forgot that the new motherboard doesn't have a PS/2 port for Keyboard... so I need to get an adapter. Also this motherboard has no XMP setting, but it does let you view the XMP profile values so I had to manually configure the RAM. edit: Earthworm Jim: Windows 95 Special Edition and Shantae: Pirate's Curse both suffered horrendous frame pacing issues with my old hardware, however the problem is fully resolved for Shantae and the situation is significantly improved for Earthwom Jim with the new hardware, so... I guess my old hardware must have had a really out of whack timing system? The Intel i7 920 CPU can outperform a Ryzen 3700X when playing a N64 song via the 64th Note plugin with the "Use Recompiler CPU" option turned off (so it uses the Interpreter CPU instead). With the Ryzen 3700X it pegs a single core to 100% utilization and suffers nasty audio stalls and crackle while I believe the i7 920 hovered around 60-80% utilization for most songs (music from some games did max it out though). Using the recompiler results in CPU usage dropping to 2~% on the Ryzen. Backup your Save Files if you play Monster Hunter: World. Capcom weirdly removed the functionality that converts old Save File formats to the newest format... resulting in the game deciding old Save Files are corrupt and suggesting you overwrite them with a brand new file (losing all your progress if you agree to it). Worse still, if you have Cloud Saving enabled the game will upload and overwrite your Cloud Save when you quit the game (better use Task Manager or the Reset button on the computer to force the game shut without it erasing your Cloud Save with a brand new Save File. Wordpad lost all value the instant Microsoft added support for more Line Ending formats in Notepad. Also we got Office 2016 through my dads work a few years ago so we just use that if we need a more comprehensive product and we also use https://www.officeclassicmenu.com/en/download.php to restore access to sensible menus. Posted by kode54 You can avoid all the ad's very easily though, by setting it up to launch when you log in to the O/S. In Windows Steam will not show the daily specials window when the program starts automatically after logging in to Windows... and it defaults to your Game Library view. They've started trying to push advertisements within the Game Library view though with the "What's New" section that you can't disable on the Game Library Home screen. Currently you can configure it to only show Updates to programs you own (I think this was a recent change to the new Library UI). Posted by Maxane The games consist of campaigns where you carry stuff from one level to the next, just because you found a Rocket Launcher in the first level of Doom 2 it doesn't mean your supposed to use it right away (that's a waste!). Also sometimes secrets are simply supposed to make you feel bad ass as the reward for finding the secret, being able to easily mow down some Imps with a Rocket Launcher is a nice way to make the player feel good after spending time hunting down that secret but a smarter player will conserve the item for a later more difficult section in the campaign. Quake handled the "time to feel like a bad ass after discovering a secret" element a little different with the temporary Quad Damage item that's instantly consumed when collected. It allowed them to focus content around the discovery of such things without worrying too much about the player being able to conserve its effects and cheapening other parts of a level. Quad Damage also lets you use the weapon of your choice (out of the ones in your possession) for any given situation.
