Off topic, TIL I'm a ""Sun Sneezer". Or rather I should say: Today I learned that most people are not. I simply thought everyone had that same reaction.

Hey, welcome to the club! :D

Back to topic -- I love physics/maths topics, even though honestly a lot of the complex concepts still go over my head. I was actually quite excited when I heard the redefinition of the kilogram was officially ratified. I'm kind of weird that way :P

I can confirm it happens regardless of ODD emulator I used (Win10 native, WinCDEmu) and player (MPC-HC). After mucking around on the interwebz I found this excerpt from a thread on reddit:
Is libdvdcss legal? The use and distribution of the libdvdcss library is controversial in a few countries such as the United States because of a law called the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act). If you are unsure about the legality of using and distributing this library in your country, please consult your lawyer.

Note Beware: VLC media player binaries are distributed with the libdvdcss library included.

I think that ISO wasn't unscrambled at all. Knowing that, it would make sense that it would only work on VLC.

Personally, I find turkey overrated. I find it's too big, too much hassle to prepare, and doesn't really taste that much better (or at all).
We kind of celebrate Thanksgiving, but we only roast chicken instead.

Change it to dd/mm/yyyy, thanks. (Yes I know a lot of people here will presumably expect mm/dd/yyyy, screw them! Or make it an option or some such)

I say ISO or none at all... :D

I say all date stamps should be presented in Unix time. If you were born before 1970, YOU DON'T EXIST.

I wanted to sneak in an Infinity War joke here, too bad I was born in 1981. :D

I imagine there's a lot of people whose views on immigration don't come from economic or moral argument, but have been learned from the people they grew up with. "When I was a kid, I saw somebody hassling an immigrant, and all the grown-ups around me gave that guy dirty looks and grumbled, so I understand that hassling immigrants is violating a social norm, and I should enforce it the same way". When somebody comes along with an anti-immigration argument, they are by definition violating a social norm, and if they don't stop they're going to get yelled at, even if their argument is sensible.

As an immigrant myself, I can understand how some arguments can reinforce the anti-immigration sentiment; however I do think that being proactive and finding solutions work far better than being closed and uncooperative. Just a minor example, driving day to day I encounter drivers (that are visibly immigrant) who do not seem to have a firm grasp of traffic rules and etiquette. They either are unfamiliar of the proper rules or are continuing the driving habits they've learned from their origin countries. This can cause a lot of frustration especially when you expect certain behavior on the road. I myself find this doubly frustrating since I put in effort to make sure I learn the ins and outs and be a proper driver, and here are others that just put that to waste.

I feel partly this is due to the lack of education that should immediately be provided to immigrants when they settle. Sometimes I feel the immigration system merely attends to administrative matters, as opposed to ensuring immigrants are properly taken care of and equipped to become contributing members of society -- seems like what happens is they bag, tag, and release people without checking if these people are truly ready to live in the new environment. On the part of the immigrants though, they should also take the initiative to make sure they get as much knowledge as they can as soon as they arrive, and make it their responsibility to follow all the rules and familiarize themselves with the basic conduct and how to carry themselves in their host country.

Anyways, this mostly just me rambling so please bear with me if I don't make too much sense.

more bragging times!

Yeah, a friend who originally worked in Shaw told me Shaw was doubling their speeds on new and existing accounts today. I'm on 75Mbps, so it should go up to 150Mbps once I restart my gateway. I'd still have to check that when I get home though.

Our 100/100 seems meagre now. It doesn't seem like it will go up anytime soon, either.

I remember already getting that level of service when I was working in Japan back in 2007. And it was only around $38 at the time. How much are you paying nowadays?

About 3000 yen, I think? Nothing has really changed.

Wow, it's still crazy cheap there... wish I could get that speed at that price here... <sigh> first-world problems

There is nothing wrong with your device. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. Sit quietly, and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your device. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The BBoard

We have a municipal fiber provider in the town ~5 mi away that does 1000/1000 symmetric like yours for cheap and wants to provide service here, but our town has a monopoly agreement with Mediacom that they're fighting against.

And that's how they circumvent anti-monopoly legislation. Choice is merely an illusion.

I was thinking more in the line that the answer involves money... but I guess it's the same difference :D

Unfortunately, governments are non-thinking entities whose sole motivation is accumulation of power.

No, tell me it's not so! D:

It should be noted though that if government sees that there is significant public support of green initiatives they will be compelled to take action, lest they risk losing the next election.

In other news:
It seems to be that Pro-bending is actually becoming a thing. :O

Anyone seen Dororo yet? It's a remake of the original by Ozamu Tezuka, and just started very recently. I was vaguely familiar with the original so I decided to pick it up, and even after just seeing the opening I was hyped. The opening music was so awesome, I'm itching to find the full single once it's out.

I'm usually two or three seasons behind, and even then I don't intend to keep up with every single title, considering I still have a sizeable list I'm working through :)

Just started:
Dororo
Bunny Girl Senpai
Mob Psycho 100 S2

Currently watching:
SAO: Alicization
Tensura
Jojo 5
Legend of Galactic Heroes (original) - I can see now why this is a classic
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
B:Beginning
Kekkai Sensen
Japan Animator Expo - A mix of pretty cool, and some very WTF anime shorts
Toaru Index 3

Recently finished:
SSSS Gridman
Attack on Titan S3
Release the Spyce
Zombieland Saga - don't usually follow idol or zombie titles, but this actually worked for me
Goblin Slayer
Karakai Jouzu Takagi-san - Nishikata you so dense

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

As an aside, how do you make up an english title out of whole cloth and STILL wind up with an honorific?

Biikoosu Zjapaniisu desu :D

Seriously, it does look like an interesting series. I've been watching more school slice-of-life titles since that's what my wife likes to watch. :P

Dororo looks good. Reminds me of Ninja Scroll and Mushishi.
Did Release the Spyce go anywhere? The first few episodes had a nice training arc, but the villains seemed very... cheesy, I guess.

Yeah, it was an absolute cheese-fest, and there's a bit of a twist at the tail end, but entire thing is short enough to binge so you can just let the spyce flow.

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

... the Dancouga team keeps showing up in the Super Robot Wars anime crossover games ...

I would have never known Dancouga if not for Super Robot Wars 4
Posted by CaptainJistuce
The most important question on my mind is a direct result of the series straddling the line between real robot and super robot genres. In a world where Earth has been nearly destroyed by godlike beings that could only be opposed by a single team of four pilots in a custom combiner no fewer than THREE times, why the hell haven't they built more than one Dancouga? It seems like it would be a pressing concern during any given military rebuild.

I was always of the understanding that in giant robot anime, the titular robot almost always requires a significant cost in time and resources to develop and maintain, so the world can only ever afford one (sometimes two) at a time. Also, I've realized why the baddies always target the goodies first once they become aware of their existence -- they know that once the good guys are defeated, there is nothing to prevent them from taking over ZA WARUDO!!!

*insert maniacal laugh here* :D
