Tbh, initially it almost sounded like some kind of small nuke after hearing about the size of the shock wave but thankfully it wasn't the case (wiki says it was one of the biggest non nuclear explosion in history). Still horrible obviously and it indeed looks like 2020 just keeps on giving.

It was determined the blast was equivalent to around 1kt of T N T -- or within the range of a variable yield device like the B61.

Unfortunately the Unicode hate/lazyness is still strong among some circles.

Ask Japan, for instance - mojibake is still a living disease.

The fact that Excel still doesn't use Unicode by default (resulting in many a French name getting mangled where I work), I doubt things will improve anytime soon.

Especially not in 2020.

I just use youtube-dl.

I haven't used that in a while since the stuff I wanted seemed to fail with it. I wonder if they've improved things a bit.

If you thought the A380 was the fattest human-transporting flying tube ever made, that's because Soviets ran out of money (and bad ideas) after the fall of the USSR in the '90s, otherwise we would be flying on this... winged devil ray?!

The Tupolev Tu-404

- Six of the finest screaming Soviet turbofans at the rear.
- Double deck design, but most of the passengers won't ever get to see a window!
- Literally a flying wing like those stealth bombers, but in Aeroflot livery instead of anti-radar paint.
- Capacity? ~1200 passengers (single class) + crew. Plus amenities like a theater and plenty of space for other cool stuff (just imagine one of these with a Emirates-tier cabin!).
- The landing gear architecture looks insanely complex, as this thing needs several sets of wheels!

Too bad there is no airport in the world where this overweight flying devil ray could ever land (and we thought poor ol' A380 had it rough!). Fortunately for us, the years of glory of the Soviet aviation are long gone, and the best they can do nowadays is the SuperJet 100, which noone wants to buy anymore (not even Aeroflot themselves!), so the Tu-404 is as missing as the thousands of web pages that vanish every day...

I believe McDonnell Douglass/Boeing was also working on a similar blended-wing body design. Another challenge this poses for passenger aircraft though is the matter of passenger comfort at the wing extremities -- an airliner typically banks at around 20-25° and you can already feel that quite a bit. If you sat even just another 10 from the window seat, the displacement would probably be significant enough to cause nausea in even the most hardiest traveller. Although in Russia, people might even enjoy that :P

Upon review, the Office of Morals & Public Decency has voted to uphold their prior ban on eight maids a-milking. As per last year, send complaints to Google Image Search.

I don't want Google to think I have questionable interests so I'm just going to assume a search would probably return a lot of NSFW results. XD

As someone pretty fond of the Studio Ghibli classic Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, there was something about the lore that I always felt deserved some further exploration -- the God Warriors that engulfed the world in fire in seven days. I just found out now they actually did it back in 2012.

I feel like I haven't really been following a lot of titles the past little while:
- BNA
- Re:Zero 2 1st cour
- Re:Zero Movie
- Jujutsu Kaisen 1st cour
- Binged Golden Kamuy up to the latest sesason

I might've mentioned somewhere in past threads, but I grew up in the Philippines (based in Canada now), and Voltes V was pretty popular with my contemporaries. So I heard recently that one of the major broadcasters there actually got a license from Toei for a live-action production. The teaser actually doesn't look half-bad, and if the rest of the show will be at this level of quality, I'd be pretty stoked to see this.

"I'm a Spider, So What?"

I've been hearing pretty good things about it too. Already have it on my Plan to Watch, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Fun fact: since falling into the holohole I haven't watched a single anime except the recent episode of Re:Zero. Rent-a-Girlfriend? Stopped at episode 5. Danmachi 3, Mahouka, Tonikaku Kawaii? No idea about those...

Seen a few random clips, and been seeing a lot more in my Recommended vids on YT. I've been actively avoiding it though out of caution of falling into said hole. Hopefully I'm not die, thank you forever.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if this were just me, but is the Search function on the fritz? I can't seem to search anything, can't even search if anybody's already mentioned that Search might not be working.

Thanks :)

I apparently just couldn't care enough to find something to watch. Hell, Railgun 3 was skipped for a literal year, and I LOVE Railgun.

Yeah, i guess last year really put a damper on my enthusiasm too despite my list getting longer and longer. And the ones I kinda want to follow are mostly still ongoing, and i didn't want to start anything that would end midway and id have to wait several months at the soonest for a continuation.

MMPX Style-Preserving Pixel Art Magnification

Out of curiosity I tried plunking random pixel art on the online demo site and was surprised to find it doesn't really do much to them, if at all. The resulting outputs seemed no better than Nearest scaling. Or I was probably just doing it all wrong.

It does a little bit of staircase smoothing. Oh well...

It occurred to me it might only really work on images where there are very distinct geometric boundaries in the images. So it's not really designed to handle pixel art containing primarily landscapes or natural scenery.

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S (Season 2) PV

No! Bad! I will not allow you to tempt me to add another show when I haven't made much progress with my list yet. adds show anyway

I was meaning to watch Promised Neverland S2 but decided to read the source first since I found that it was already finished. Pretty interesting how they went with the story but not sure how anyone else might see it. I'm just curious now how far the anime will follow the manga.

Oh yeah, introduced the wifey to Horimiya since there's the anime now (and she enjoyed Kobayashi before). I was personally hyped when I first read it was getting animated, and am glad to see she seems to be enjoying it as well.

...or I can continue doing what I'm currently doing: talk to nobody and live at the margin of society :/
An underappreciated option.

Personally, I'm also partial to that option. Unfortunately, having family I still keep in touch with in entirely different countries makes it a bit less viable :/

I just read this now, and I'm a bit tearing up and my fingers are trembling. Admittedly I interacted with Near far less than others in this board and the prior one through the years. And as far as talent or sheer determination I'm a mere pleb compared to them and others here. But I do enjoy frequenting here, even just to lurk around or post some random nonsense.

But the things other creatures do to people are just beyond appalling, disgusting, infuriating... im beyond words, but virtually powerless to do do anything. I still have yet to understand the inner workings to why these things happen to people who absolutely do not deserve it.I just pray to the powers that be that these vermin eventually get their just desserts. Somewhere, some how, some day.

Rest in Peace, Near. You will missed.

My first car was a pre-owned Ford Festiva hatch. I had a soft spot for the little econobox, and had pretty fond memories hanging out with friends with it (imagine fitting 6-8 people like some clown car).

So I was really surprised when I first read about the Ford SHOgun. Jay Leno had one of the seven units ever made. Although, it wouldn't be considered a sleeper by virtue of the hood scoops and visibly wider rear end and dual exhaust.

There was even this more recent article mentioning the potential of plunking a Hellephant engine into a Festiva frame, I highly doubt it can realistically be acheived though. I think a more feasible solution would be to go the EV route with twin motors.

A bit late to the party, but I've now seen the 4th and last Evangelion Rebuild movie (been a bit busy following VTubers instead). Can finally remove that one from my bucket list.

<spoilers>

Regarding the presentation, there were a few really cheap-looking CGI shots towards the end, really would've liked a different aesthetic; at times it also looked like a game played on an old graphics card due to the ~24 Hz framerate. The sense of scale also got lost for a few moments. As for the content, it was mostly fine. Didn't really like that Asuka was retconned into being one of many clones and that she doesn't end up with Shinji, but that's just my preference I guess.

</spoilers>

I rewatched all 3 movies before the 4th dropped just to get myself up to speed. I think I understand what you mean about the sense of scale, but I also think it was partly intentional
