I like that Microsoft says it is because of modern high-contrast LCDs, when the colors are only a problem because LCDs are lower-contrast than CRTs were.

Basically, the next Firefox update will "check" how you use your browser, and try to suggest useful addons that would be a good match for your usage patterns.

Does it suggest addons to disable the helper?

There are a few brilliantly simple copyright schemes though. One of the best ones I found out about was on the StarCraft CD (I think?) where the outer layer of the disk was circular and played the exact same message a certain number of times before jumping to another part of the disk.
My favorite was the TurboCD "copy protection", which wasn't even intended as such(in the TurboGrafX's day, being on CD WAS copy-protection).

Instead of the standard "data on track one, redbook audio after that" that is the observed behavior on pretty much every multi-mode optical disk ever, NEC put a "don't play this in your stereo, it contains data files" redbook track on track 1, then data, then more redbook.
This was just off-standard enough that a lot of computer stuff refused to believe it it was a working CD at all.

I tend to use bright schemes wherever I go so my terminal is usually pure black on white, cannot stand it when non block solid colours are used on a terminal screen, it just isnt right to me :P
Green text on black background, one true way.
...
I GUESS you can use amber too.

Almost makes you want to make your own browser. That doesn't support blackjack.

What about hookers?

Man, if only someone would turn up a reasonably functional rendering engine, then make it freely available and with a nice, stable, well-documented API... but they'd probably either have the project taken over by fascists or have it forked by major corporations who never ever give back. Either way, the new powers would break all the APIs every other week and run around deleting useful features and implementing their own brand of insanity. Open-source at its finest.

GOG's Winter Sale is on, and they're giving away copies of classic adventure game Full Throttle Remastered. You can also get Fantasy General (a classic DOS-era turn-based strategy) if you by anything, and Everspace, a very pretty space-themed shooter.

Does the GOG release of Everspace support VR like the Steam release? I don't see it mentioned.

There's a bunch of "reasonably functional" GUI based rendering engines, like Dillo and NetSurf, freely available. They have not been taken over by fascists, nor been forked by major corporations. They just fell way, way behind on the compatibility treadmill, so they work nicely with 80% of the websites on the Internet but fail horribly on the 5% of websites people care most about.
I've never had good luck with Dillo, honestly. I'd love to see it get a major bump.

GOG has recently added more games to their GOG Connect service (add games purchased from Steam to your GOG account for free): https://www.gog.com/connect

that is neither free games nor giveaways.
In a way, it is. It is a free second copy of several games you've previously purchased.

Debian's "cpulimit" package is apparently a competing project really named LimitCPU, which doesn't have a public issue-tracker. Its last update was in 2017, though, so maybe it's a bit more lively...

Go to install one program, get a completely different program that claims to be the one you wanted.

I just searched Shadow DOM, and I find it amusing that Youtube is using an API that Chrome is supposed to remove in April.

Personally, I hate the modern web browser attitude that old features should be removed so we can break old websites all the time, but... seems I can't win that fight.

Well, you DEFINITELY shouldn't steal ideas, then go back in time and implement them first so it looks like they stole it from you. Save that for profitable inventions.

Powershell is annoying

No lie.

it needs some commands to be prefixed with .\

That is for running an executable, as opposed to an internal command.
IF you're in, say C:\MAME, you'd have to type .\mame64 to run the emulator, because it enforces a distinction between commands and files.

. is just the current directory, so it is the same as typing c:\mame\mame64.exe

and you also need to run some specific command before you can execute a PowerShell script with the necessary privileges (can't just run Powershell as an Administrator).

Welcome to everyone blaming Microsoft for user error, part seventy-four.

Butbutbut electric cars are the one and only true solution! Muh batteries!

Nevermind that you still need dead dinosaur juice (often coming from communist shitholes like mine!) for all those plastic parts (which on modern cars means pretty much everything except for tires, powertrain, and frame), also lubricants (cars have wheels, and by extension, moving parts), and mining all that lithium involves dealing with all class of nasty poisons (but who cares about those poor Australian/Chilean/Argentinean miners anyway?). And of course all those electrons that you have to squirt back into your batteries have to come from somewhere else, yet nobody wants cheap nukes because MUH CHERNOKUSHIMA ISLANDS, and you can't put hydro dams in most of the world, so let's keep burning dirty coal on Someone Else Backyard while we pretend that solar/wind are the definitive silver bullet (hint: they aren't).

But hey, banning internal combustion engines is so much easier, and as a bonus, it attracts voters and enlarges Musk ePeen...
I really wish people realized what you are saying here. Electronics manufacture is NASTY, and the end result is simply a consolidation of emissions, not an elimination of them. In fairness, emissions at a large building are easier to control than emissions off the back of a vehicle. You can attach equipment to a smokestack that just isn't feasible for a car. But electric cars are only "zero emission" in a narrow, pedantic sense that has no meaning at all in the larger picture.

That said, natural gas is cheap these days(WHOO FRACKING!1111) and burns cleaner than coal, and the US is producing most of its oil locally again.
(Incidentally, the natural gas boom has stalled plans to expand Texas's Comanche Peak nuclear plant. Wind and solar are also booming in my state, as both are rather reliable power sources 'round these parts. )
