    Wait wtf?

And yeah, I've never got the whole 'filesystem debate' in Linux either. Doesn't help that some of them don't tend to work out of the box on some distributions either, heh.

Speaking of computer stuff still not corrupted by China:

    https://twitter.com/id_aa_carmack/status/1340794861050605568

Carmack: "There is no DOOM port yet for the Cray-1, and it would be a PITA to do it because it's weird hardware"
    The Internet: "Hold my beer"
Another Internet: "The next corner pizzeria has Crays as their seats"

This has to be done, people - it's the final frontier for all things DOOM. Just found the last working Cray-1, a beefy power line (it can draw up to 115 kilowatts at full blast!), and some way to plug a VGA monitor to it (plenty of bored hardware engineers are willing to do that). All for... what, a machine with performance equivalent to a P5@90MHz? Good enough for me~

Careful, that topic is known to have caused Holy Wars in the past. Right now there is one ongoing because EXT4 is ooooold (brtfs vs. XFS vs. ZFS vs. something that runs on the cloudy clouded clouds).
Also, jokes about MurderYoWifeFS ReiserFS never seem to get stale... like its development, as it still receives patches every now and then!

I've just been reading that story and... it's actually quite scary, yet this Reiser guy clearly didn't understand how to plan properly - it also makes a fool of the US police.

Ugh, sort of reminds me of how the Nintendo 3DS 'freeshop' application (they should have called the console the Nintendo 3DES!) was created by a person running a child-porn site on the sideline and was convicted twice for the same thing previously before actually getting jailed.

Apaprently they're still trying to get the new version into the kernel. They think they might need to change the name to do so, for some reason.

Given the current SJW snowflakes / "someone could get offended" climate that is getting managements around the world to rename everything and/or rewrite the dictionary too, I would prefer for ReiserFS to keep its goddamned name, just on moral grounds. The only one that could get offended by its current name is Hans Reiser... and he is currently rotting in jail anyway. I'm still surprised ReiserFS still has users considering that better filesystems have been developed (and reached production quality) since then... but I would not get surprised if somewhere, some graybeard Unixoid sysadmin is still using EXT2 because he can't trust those newfangled "transaction journals".

Don't be a Mozilla, people. Or a Red Hat, as Fedora is the latest on the "PC IT language" bandwagon:
    https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Fedora-Git-Branch-Names-Main
Seriously, you're not allowed anymore to have "master" branches on your Git repos anymore!?
Some snowflakes are also proposing to rename "Rawhide" to something else as it could offend Hindi people with their "cows are sacred" stuff. I wish I were making this shit up, but nope, it sadly has become a pest all around computers :/
By that logic, IBM should have been renamed decades ago (remember who helped A Certain Bloody Dictator to gas all those innocents...), and don't get me started with Microsoft...

CD mastering won't be a thing anymore either will it?

Apparently it will be sexist according to white neo-communist (who don't even understand the fucking meaning of this word, and you'd be worthy of giving them a short lecture as to why it's a hypocritical, flawed hypothesis of a 'system') males who think they're the Thought Police. Apparently they can talk on behalf of those they're pretending to represent when in reality, what they actually want is to push their own agenda forward, reinforce stereotypes of every single person that isn't them and thus pushing them aside to gain control over them!

Whether they even realise they're doing it or not is a big problem too. I bet a lot of them just innocently joined Tumblr, Twitter or Discord long ago (many of them will likely be vulnerable in ways that make them easily influenced too like autism and the likes...) and essentially got radicalised into these things due to the high amounts of predatory shit that seems to go on all three of those platforms. They're now all locked into this mindset and can't escape it. Trust me on this one, I have been there and done that in about 2017 (when I was sixteen), and I'm glad I never looked back tbh, ugh: some of the people (not naming them but two in particular come to mind...) I came across from that scarred me more than I scarred them, regardless of all the well-known petty drama I've caused around these types of boards.

On a side note, it's interesting how many of the people who obsessively lobby and advocate for X rights in extremist manners online tend to hang around very similar minded people (which seems to be expanding further as Discord+Reddit becomes the medium of choice for the younger generation), have the same interests, among other things.

    It also implies:

    - IT admins and computerizer assemblers won't be able to have "master system images" anymore.
    - Oh, speaking of Master System, the venerable 8-bit Sega console has suddenly become "not-PC"!
    - PATA drives are now to be purged from existence, due to its master/slave architecture.
    - Phone centrals also have plenty of cleansing to do ("master line number" is still a commonplace term on banks, for example)
    - Master Lock, need I to say more?
    - Plenty of videogames will suddenly get deplatformed if SJWs go full China over them (a quick search on Steam yields "Digimon Masters Online" as the very first match, so this also means anime is non-compliant too!)
    - Golf and tennis tournaments also have to be rebranded, as "Masters" is a pretty commonplace name there. But then, some out there would think these two sports are already exclusionary ("white rich people"). But then, Tiger Woods was black...
    - Master Minimum Equipment List, which also means our airplanes not only are potential death traps, but also full of derogatory expressions! (I suggest to also blacklist "Boeing" and "McDonnell-Douglas" while we're at there, as people get offended every time the 737 MAX is mentioned on the news)
    - I could go on and on and on and on...

    The KFConsole

No, it's not April Fools. Also, it's still 6 days for our local equivalent of that (December 28), so... is this for real?!

Too bad they had to ruin it by going with Suckgate for the storage - it's like using moldy melted butter (the same they use for their shittyass HDD platters) instead of real, sweet, golden palm oil for your KFC.

Why there is no Mountain Dew-cooled gaming rig yet!?

Well, apparently either it's real, or a very elaborate advertising stunt. Or both. And it's not new.
KFC is walking into the next level of what General Mills did with Chex Quest in the '90s: selling (not necessarily healthy) food to nerds through videogames. This is their second "ad" in less than a year - their first is a... frickin' visual novel!?

Well, at least the KFConsole™ now has a suitable pack-in game.
And I thought this or this were weird.

I think I now need an adult...

Either way it's fucking stupid. You can't even rely on KFC to have chicken in their shops, and when they do, it's dry as fuck.

This rumor is now doing the rounds at the news:

Intel to outsource 5nm Core i3 production to TSMC

But it doesn't seem to end there: Intel has already outsourced some percentage of non-CPU parts (i.e. chipsets, NICs) to outside fabs. If these rumors turn out to be true, it means not only Intel gave up when trying to appease to the <=10nm gods, it also means the planet now relies on a SINGLE manufacturer for all of its cutting-edge state-of-the-art integrated circuits: TSMC. Which if you forgot, the T is for TAIWAN, y'know, the country our deal Xinnie the Pooh want to get erased from Earth ASAP. Sure, TSMC is now building a factory in Arizona, but that one won't be coming up online until 2024 at the earliest, which means any asshole move by The Pooh can suddenly cut off the supply of fast Ryzens, cellphone SoCs for iDevices (Apple has bought nearly every single production slot on TSMC's 5nm for late 2020 and most of 2021, so those 5nm Ryzens have to wait), and now, even cheap Core CPUs.

Needless to say, this is Bad™, with a capital B. I can't believe I'm now rooting for Intel to get their shit together again, but TSMC is getting too powerful for its own good. There could be hope at the end of the road, given Intel's current reverse Boeing CEO change, to a former engineer that already knew Intel CPUs down to the transistor (apparently Pat Gelsinger is known as the "father of the 486", and has significative input during the design of the very first Core architecture, which as we can remember, quickly became a game changer). All this guy needs is to re-rail the <10nm train, and stay the hell away from the SJWs outside scandals, and I guess the x86 CPU wars will heat up again, instead of losing ground to heavily locked down ARMs.

Doing <10nm seems to be hard for everybody across the board: it doesn't help that you need EUV for that, a process that is buggier than any recent Ubilol AAA game Cyberpunk 2077, and it also doesn't help that there is a sole OEM in the world for the Very Expensive Lithography Machines you need for EUV (that's the dutch ASML, which has become another strategic target for the nukes). So far here is the situation:

    - TSMC: The kings of the hill, except that you can only get their latest cutting-edge chips on crippled appliances by Apple :/ Their 7nm is not bad either - that's where AMD is baking their latest hotness. And they will be the first ones at 3nm!
    - Samsung: The only other one that can do production quality 5nm, but not with TSMC volumes. The bulk of their output is reserved for internal use (Exynos, DRAM), and the scraps are already monopolized by nVidia.
    - Intel: Jinxed, can't do 10nm at anything but "barely over engineering samples" level, can't do <10nm AT ALL.
    - UMC: The best they can do is 14nm. Nobody makes powerful/efficient processors here?
    - GlobalFoundries: Officially gave up. Stuck at 14nm forever? Due to contractual reasons (remember: GloFo was the AMD fab arm!), AMD is still obliged to source a percentage of their parts from there, so I guess chipsets and obsolete/garbage-tier APUs.
    - SMIC: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA--wait, is Xinnie The Pooh for real!?--HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! How naive are those CCP cadres, believing they can play with the big boys. Even their souped-up VIA Nano clone, Zhaoxin is fabbed at the enemy, TSMC! Anyway, they're not even at 10nm yet.
    - Everybody else: Discounting flash memory dedicated players (Kioxia, SanDisk) which are always a couple nodes behind due to the specific intricacies of flash, the <=10nm club remains a very exclusive one where the cost of entry is impossibly high, so nope, for our effects nobody else exists.

I should make a "Mehmet, my son" meme to demonstrate just how much the American tech industry has been gutted by a desire for cheap slave labor that you force to work 60 hours a week and which you can deport as soon as they start to organize.

The ones that aren't openly slave labor are just ethnic rackets*, and even then there are ongoing caste discrimination lawsuits going on against several huge firms for refusing to hire/promote qualified people who are descended from Dalits.

At this point I almost hope that China conquers Taiwan and we go 5 years without any new hardware, just so I can see our glorious, unaccountable leaders in government, finance, and business scramble to find someone else to blame for their failures. We can't vote them out of power, and any riots or revolts which actually threaten corporate capital (ie, the ones that don't make Jeff Bezos tens of billions of dollars) just get us new domestic surveillance laws. We literally can't remove them from power in any way, and they refuse to govern (looting the nation != governing). LOL what are our options here? Pray for Martians to invade and go Independence Day on Washington DC? Throw a goat into a volcano with a prayer for the Yellowstone caldera to erupt wrapped around it's neck?

What do you do when your ruling elites see you as prey/food, and dumb prey at that?

The sooner our elites asinine decisions topple their fortunes, the better off we will all be.

*I mean, kudos to them for finding a way to screw over their exploiters, but turning around and screwing over someone else over arbitrary differences hardly makes you the good guy.

    MOAR INTEL!!!!!1111!ONEELEVEN!!!

The rumoured Intel discrete GPUs (now branded as "Xe Graphics", "Iris Xe", or simply "Xe" are finally finding its way to the market... timidly. But the reality is that it seems Intel is half-assing things, AGAIN:

    - The very first Xe parts to hit the market are laptop GPUs, built into ultra-thin soldered-down-everything laptops, like this Acer model.

    - Yesterday, Intel announced through its partners the very first desktop PCIe Xe cards, that is, the class of hardware you and me are itching to buy, if only so we can finally say the final "Fuck You nVidia!", and/or ditch the ATi/AMD driver hell (that despite countless improvements in the last decade, the spectre of broken drivers still haunt each and every new generation of Radeons, mainly for those of us running Linux). But there is a catch. Well, several gotchas to be precise:
    0) Only low end parts will be available at launch, some of the fanless variety. Might be good picks for those looking to beef up their HTPC setups, but not so much for those seeking for the ultimate GeForce/Radeon killer. OK, I can get behind this: Intel needs to test the waters and whatnot, but this isn't exactly the BANG! the industry has been waiting for...
    1) Initial parts are destined to "system integrators", so basically only for prebuilts/OEM, not for the retail market!
    2) In what I would call a incredible act of self-sabotage from Intel, said cards will only work with "select CPUs and motherboards". Some Sekret UEFI Sauce™ is also required for enabling support for Xe GPUs - basically, Intel doesn't want YOU using these babies on anything other but 9th/10th gen genuine Intel Core CPUs, which is outrageous when you consider that you can take a Radeon (made by a company that also makes x86 CPUs no less!) and put it on nearly everything with a PCIe slot!
    3) Even if you're willing to give more money to Intel on a blessed CPU/GPU/mobo trinity, the Linux support (which is usually great if not stellar at launch day) is kinda unusable right now, on many fronts.

Hopefully we're watching an overly cautious (if kinda ill-conceived) launch strategy, and not the born of another overhyped i740 fiasco. But at least this time we are getting something, instead of the broken promises of the sad story known as "Larrabee" :/

Oh man, the semiconductor shortages shitshow keeps going on.

It's not only Apple still hogging hi-end production lines at TSMC leaving no room for AMD to grow while nVidia fights for scraps at Samsung, and certainly Intel giving up with <10nm doesn't really help. The AMD head says shortages will continue for the first half of 2021, so getting a next-gen console or even a new CPU or GPU will be tough for months to come (and unfortunately scalpers only are making things worse).

But this mess is also starting to cripple other critical industries, like automobiles. And if you're in the market for new expensive audio gear... we just got the classic "factory burned down, expect shortages" straight from Japan's AKM (which might be already present inside at least one of your electronics, as they make DAC/ADCs by the truckload).

2021 already has the potential to be even worse than 2020 for everybody around the world, no matter where you are.
