Nasty Adobe Bug Deleted $250,000 Worth of Man's Files, Lawsuit Claims Dude, seriously!? Y U NO BACKUPS!? If your work footage is worth that much, why the hell are you misconfiguring your software with potentially dangerous settings!? No, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU NEGLECTING TO PERFORM BACKUPS FIRST AND FOREMOST!?!?!?!? Sure, Adobe software is garbage (and it's easy to blame them when shit hits the fan, considering they've made trully horrible stuff like... Flash or Acrobat), but so are computers, and any computer user should be very aware that computers are ticking time bombs, and if your data is worth SOMETHING, you have to act accordingly and BACKUP YO' SHIT. This guy deserves to lose the lawsuit and to be billed massively by your nearest data recovery service. Licensed Pirate® since 2006, 100% Buttcoin™-free, enemy of All Things JavaScript™ |

Apparently he did have a backup, within the same folder that got recursively deleted. Also attempted some recovery software which only restored the folders and not the files... Posted by Nicholas Steel I hardly think anything stored on the same physical drive can be called a backup. What was his plan for if (or, let's face it, when) his hard drive eventually fails? He was playing with fire even without Adobe's help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Screw_Yall |

Posted by creaothceann But isn't the absence of proof the proof of absence itself? :D j/k Yeah, it's hard when there is no solid evidence either way. Posted by creaothceann I was watching it for a while when I read the description where it mentioned FC5 being shown before FC2. So FC2 actually had better realism? I still have no idea what I'm talking about. |

From the new Sony that now bans boobs, force Japanese developers to submit their release applications in English, and now skips the E3, we get their next "innovation" in gaming: blockchain! https://games.slashdot.org/story/18/11/19/1845213/blockchain-gaming-is-coming-to-the-ps4 Apparently someone forgot to relay the memo to Sony and IBM: blockchain is no longer hot. Oh, speaking about IBM, it seems they now own the house of systemd. And CentOS/RHEL. And JBoss/WildFly. And other things for computerizing blockchains in The Clown. Posted by tomman systemd being owned by IBM... Since when has IBM even been relevant in the last 2 decades? Didn't the last IBM sponsored OS, namely OS/2, get "ahem" canceled? I don't want to pulled a Secret of Mana, but, if time is like a river, and history repeats, we may not ever have to worry about anything out of Red Hat is about 5-10 years on average. Yeah Blockchain is dead pretty much. Monero is the only real de-centralized cryptocurrency still worth mining. BitMain pretty much has Ethereum, LiteCoin, and BitCoin by the balls. Posted by james4591 Eh, there's a bunch of Linux distros with official ports for the s390x architecture, including RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu, and SuSE. I can tell you those ports weren't contributed by random weekend hackers with a spare IBM mainframe in their basement. Yeah Blockchain is dead pretty much. Cryptojunk is NOT real money, no matter how hard the media wants me to believe. The day I can directly buy food with that shit on the nearest market, I will reconsider. Remember, right now cryptojunk is only good for scammers and speculators, for everybody else you might as well take your money and buy Enron shares, or simply flush it down the nearest toilet :P At least my banknotes have actual value: it seems bolivars of all kind are hot sellers right now... among the worldwide collectors market! Example! Regarding IBM/Red Hat: I'm actually kinda worried for the future of JBoss/WildFly, considering that 1) that's my Java AS of choice right now, and 2) IBM also has its own AS (WebSphere) which outside Big Enterprisey noone uses, despite there being a free tier (Liberty Profile). Will IBM try to merge both? Push WAS aggresively? Kill WAS in favor of JBoss? Both? None? ANYTHING is best than being stuck with Glassfish, that's for sure! Posted by creaothceann BigJon is always fun to see play. Also, nice, Lost Levels/SMB2J has actually a proper second quest...I didn't actually know that. Afaik the first game's second quest is basically just enemies being replaced or made faster. Feels kinda cheap, which is why I don't think I ever really bothered playing it. |

Posted by tomman Yes, Cryptocoin isn't real money, but it is a tradeable asset with value. Think of it as e-Stock rather than e-Money. The problem is BitMain now controls roughly 42% or now more of the hashing power. The problem is they're close to having the ability to initiate a 51% attack, and due to the fact BitMain is a Chinese company, and if you know how the Chinese authority works, they technically control BitMain. So effectively the Chinese Government could effectively initiate a huge financial attack on the world with a 51% attack. I doubt they would, but I have known one thing, "Never trust China" because of the fact they like to act dumb at times doing stupid shit. This could damage BitCoin as an asset heavily causing many people to lose millions or even billions in asset values. https://bitcoinist.com/bitmain-51-percent-bitcoin-hashrate/ Plus the fact that BitMain has been attempting to thwart many Cryptocurrency ASIC protections has been worrisome to many using the cryptonight algorithm. This past July, Electroneum had a massive network attack from a Nicehash attack that caused massive hashing power systems to cause a flood of orphaned blocks to pour into the network causing many small mining pools and operations to abandon efforts or stall efforts until Nanopool and Spacepools collectively could clear the orphans and return any real mining efforts to the network. Electroneum did, for a brief period regain some effort, but the damage was done, the coin crashed in value from $0.25 a coin share to now being $0.007 a coin share, many miners packed up and left, and Electroneum fearing a loss from the lack of GPU miners, returned to allowing ASICs. https://www.techllog.com/2018/05/electroneum-fork-upcoming/ https://www.ccn.com/manufacturer-holds-cryptonight-asic-firesale-after-monero-hard-forks/ https://www.ccn.com/monero-sticks-to-anti-asic-guns-with-emergency-software-update/ I just see any coin with ASIC capable mining of vanishing eventually.
