    If you're interested in watching a playthrough of the 2019 Resident Evil 2 game, than I strongly suggest you watch ProJared's playthrough on his Youtube channel (he does 2 complete playthroughs).

    Also Sony now offers refunds for digital purchases so long as you haven't downloaded nor streamed any of the product within 14 days of the purchase date (that includes pre-orders, they can be refunded within 14 days before and after the purchase date).     You get 30 days after release day if there are technical issues with your purchase iirc.

    Well, I guess they don't want people to abuse it by playing it then demanding refunds. It's better than nothing I suppose though the "no refund after you started to download" rule should be after you completed the download.

    edit: Well, since on PS4 you can sometime play part of the game after a partial download, it kinda makes sense.

    I'm reasonably sure their new refund policy is an attempt to stop legislators and/or judges(depending on jurisdiction) from forcing their hand, after a few high-profile dogshit titles* drew a spotlight on the general inability to attain a refund on games regardless of functionality or method of purchase.
    This refund policy, much like the old one, is literally illegal under european customer protection laws, which is a significant problem that they'd rather not fix. Better to leap in and announce a newer, more generous refund policy before the wrong people look too hard at the current policy. In America, they'd just rather no one in Congress get a bee in their bonnet about strengthening customer protection law.
    (It is also a refund policy that uses a lot of words to hide the fact that it really just says NO REFUNDS.)



    *The most recent of those was Bioware's much-hyped Destiny-em-up Anthem, which was crashing PS4BSD and forcing people to unplug the PS4 to escape. They were refunding anyone that successfully navigated the customer service gauntlet and asked a human for a refund.

    It's also illegal in Australia, which requires minimum 1 year warranty that the product is free of defects and works described I believe.

    HD texture packs for BL2 and Pre-Sequel are now available as free DLC, and a game engine update for BL1 with various quality of life changes and a HD texture pack... It's listed as "Borderlands GOTY Enhanced" in your game library if you own the original (separate from the original release of the first game).

    It's good that they didn't replace the existing Borderlands 1 game with the enhanced release.

    I am still playing Hob. It turns out if I constrain it to one core my PC doesn't get hot enough to beep, which is nice. It does stutter a bit when too many special effects appear on screen at a time, but I'm not annoyed enough to start digging into cooling problems.

    I'm getting the distinct impression that this game's director was promoted from, say, Art Director rather than Lead Developer. The game is still absolutely beautiful, it's still doing an excellent job of foreshadowing and introducing new ideas and calling back to old ones, there's been a bunch of cut-scene moments that have made me say "whoa", but... it's become clear to me that all these mechanisms I've been resetting and reactivating don't actually *do* anything beside visually indicate and reward progress through the game.

    As a nerd I've learned to make sense of the world as a chain of causes and effects. Hob's world does have causes and effects, but they're all fairly arbitrary: turning this lever makes that platform extend, but who would build an extendible platform *there*, with the controlling lever all the way over *here*? It makes *visual* sense, since the platform is just where the camera naturally looks during the lever-turning animation, but I'd have a hard time telling you which parts of the map I explored in what order, or why the game guided me to place X before place Y... The game is very well crafted on a moment-to-moment scale, and this world clearly has a story that started long before the game began, but at this point in the game my character doesn't really know whether their actions have been making things better or worse. As a player, the only way I know I'm making progress is that the pause screen tells me I've collected four of eight shiny tokens.

    I think if I were the kind of person who describes themselves as a "visual thinker", Hob would be mind-blowing and a cult-classic. On the other hand, the kind of person who's poured hundreds of hours into Factorio would probably find it endlessly frustrating. I feel I'm somewhere between the two - I'm fond of Hob, and I have tremendous respect for the work that went into it, but the logical side of my brain does get a little bit bored.

    At least your system beeps when it gets hot. Mine just shuts down if I forget to constrain games to one or two cores.

    And the only reason it beeps is because when I built the PC, I didn't know about the extra CPU power pins on the motherboard, so the system wouldn't boot, and I bought a piezo beeper just to hear what the BIOS error beep would be.

    Why not just get one of them fancy aftermarket coolers? I paid something like $30 for mine, never had any temperature issues since, even when I was into overclocking. Not very difficult to install, even for me who really hates dealing with hardware (I get all paranoid and think I'll ESD absolutely everything by looking at it funny) - you remove the old cooler, wipe CPU with acetone/isopropyl alcohol, put on new magic toothpaste, and screw on new cooler.

    Much quieter, especially in my case when I found the case fans weren't actually needed. You also might be able to tune the fans on the computer without physically altering anything with an application like SpeedFan. For instance, just try setting everything to max and take off the side of the case. If that solves it, good enough workaround.

    There was a certain photograph about which you had a hallucination. You believed that you had actually held it in your hands. It was a photograph something like this.

    With this stock cooler, I have previously been able to peg all four cores (compiling software) for minutes at a time with only slightly noisier fans to show for it, so I don't think an aftermarket cooler would be any better than that. However, it's been suggested that in the nearly seven years since I built this PC, the thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink might have dried out or cracked or evaporated or something... I'm not sure if I believe that's possible, but if I took off the heat-sink to give it a good blow, I'd have to replace the thermal paste anyway, so maybe I should just bite the bullet and do that.

    That can happen. Or, the actual thermal interface material in itself can't evaporate, but whatever's holding it together (e.g. silicone) can dry out.

    If your computer's shutting down, that means the temperatures are quite bad. Maybe Windows or your motherboard sets lower tolerances, but the CPU will try to throttle itself first and only trigger its built-in limiter at the absolute redline ("critical," usually around 100°C), which is definitely not recommended to run at for long periods of time.

    Try running Prime95 at max settings with some temperature monitoring software on and see what happens.

    Maybe the BIOS has a shutdown temperature that is set quite low?

    I nabbed myself a noctua cooler a while back and it was by far the least stressful cooler install I've done.

    and well, quiet and cool. maybe I should see how much quieter I can get it

    Yeah, I like Noctua because of their focus on noise levels, and I like to keep my components as quiet as I can. If something's noisy I don't feel it's working optimally.

    I'd definitely replace that stock cooler, Screwtape. Stock coolers suck royally. It's also not a bad investment because nowadays you can almost always carry an aftermarket cooler over to another build. As said, Noctua coolers are pretty good. be quiet and Thermalright are good options, too. A TRUE Spirit 140 is only about $50.

    Best (and only afaik) beat-em-up-RPG on the NES.


    I recently discovered the GBA remake which I wasn't even aware existed until then:


    It's pretty much a faithful remake of the original but with new artwork, moves, animations etc. Just make sure you pick "Attack rule = none" before beginning a new game; doing so will disable the friendly fire/punches/kicks.


    On PS4, the original Borderland GOTY. Not too expensive, for a re-release at least... You can possibly get it for even cheaper on steam. edit: and like mentioned above, it's a free update if you already purchased it on steam.

    The Nintendo Labo VR updates for Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch also improves general loading times as well as the performance of content streaming/loading (less intermittent stutter when traveling insanely fast across the overworld in Breath of the Wild for example).

    This means that the Switch version of BotW is now the best version in all respects and Super Mario Odyssey is now straight up better than what it was.

    That's good. Because by all accounts the VR portion is awful. Mario's is tiny and soulless, Zelda's is poorly done and makes even the strongest stomachs roll.
