    ...please, please, pretty please STOP FUCKING WITH YOUR UI DESIGNS, particularly when non-techies/old people that aren't willing to listen to your "reasonable" explanations do interact with your software!

    I'm fucking SICK when $MOM gets pissed off every single time she inadvertently messes up stuff on her Android tablet when all she is doing is to read the news on it, just because Googletards decided it was an AWESOME idea to place the goddamned Incognito Mode button just next to the "hamburger" menu on Chrome tabs! (or the "New Incognito Tab" entry very close to the regular "New Tab" entry) No, she is not paying attention when she is focused to read the news. Yes, she gets veeeeery pissed off when she enables Incognito by accident. And yes, I can't get her to understand that this is a deliberate act by Chrome devs and that she should be more careful when touching the display (she is not listening, remember - she is just too busy insulting, calling people "smartass", and getting angry at me because "I refuse" to disable the stupid Incognito mode that supposedly doesn't let her open web pages)

    Seriously, Google, and everybody else. CUT IT OFF!
    IT'S NOT YOUR GODDAMNED DEVICE, GOD DAMN IT!
    Or choke on a dick, step on a Lego, and die in a fire then.
    Since owning this Android tablet at home, I've had nothing but headaches, both with its user and its webshit software cancer :/

    Ugh, I'm glad I don't use your awesome piece of shit on any of my computers.
    Unfortunately, I have to deal with this particular device (which I don't control) on my network.

    And of course, some utter asshole is profiting from naive people that can't bow down to UXtards: seriously, pay money to undo your terrible UI changes?! (And getting your personal data siphoned to Siberia in the meanwhile)

    Do you have a source on that, my friend? Because Google sure doesn't seem to agree with you.

    On a more practical note, have you considered replacing her browser? Naked Browser has a rather nice UI with the menu button safely tucked away in the corner. It's also rather fast.

    There was a certain photograph about which you had a hallucination. You believed that you had actually held it in your hands. It was a photograph something like this.

    The invoice says "Sold by Amazon, LLC. to $YOU", not "Lease contract between $YOU and Alphabet, Inc. d/b/a Google Inc.". Google can cry me a river, but we paid real money in exchange of this Allwinner piece of junk to a third-party entity (which now seens to have a vested interest on smartdevices you no longer own, but I digress).

    Yeeeeeah... no, We're not interested into switching browsers:
    - She barely learned to use Chrome, and every UI/UX change doesn't really make things easier for her. Learning a completely distinct application is completely out of her comfort zone (which is already as tiny as you can imagine from a 65yo lady with heart/blood pressure problems).
    - I would be trading villains, as each and every single cellphone software developer in the world has this goal of becoming your worst enemy. Not a long term solution for our personal sanity.

    Ugh, if I ever breed my own offspring, remind me to never leave any kind of "personal computing technology" at their reach.

    I wouldn't say switching browsers is _completely distinct_. But I understand. That said, the developer of Naked Browser seems to be a sane guy. I mean, just take a look at the website - it's clearly made by a normal person and not a web "developer."

    For a short term solution, what about pirating Incoquito and disabling Internet access for it? Alternatively, "downgrading" to an older version of Chrome.

    I've already tried looking for Incoquito: there is no need for pirate it as the APK for the free version can still be found floating around. But... all versions require Android 5.0 (Lollipop) at least.

    The tablet runs 4.4 (KitKat).

    Car, meet brick wall.

    (And before you ask: yes, I've looked into custom ROMs for this thing: we have to thank Allwinner for never releasing proper A31/A31s drivers compatible with the later kernels required by recent Android versions. On those A31-based tablets, you only options are Jellybean or KitKat - Lollipop and later are out of reach)

    There are other Incognito-blocking solutions on the Play Store. None of them work for me: the free ones aren't compatible with KitKat, the paid ones that (supposedly) could work are... well, paid (not an option here), and due to privacy/stability concerns, I'm not keen on trusting some random 4-star apps, much less pirating them.

    Google DOES offer several official ways to disable Incognito mode on Chrome:
    - The IncognitoModeAvailability policy. Easy to setup on desktop (it's a regkey on Windows, a pref on Mac/Linux), but on Android it requires a managed device, which implies that you're on a domain. There are sample apps you can use on rooted devices for achieving similar results, but as I'm not an Android developer, I have neither the desire nor the resources to install their SDKs and shit just to build a small proggy to setup a policy. And while there is one of such samples on the Play Store (Test DPC), surprise, it is NOT compatible with KitKat :/ (FWIW: the device is already rooted -mainly for maintenance/storage reasons-, so I don't mind using solutions that require rooting)
    - Enable Parental controls, which implies setting up a parent and a child account. Which is completely overkill as the device is owned by my mom, not my little daughter! The parent account has everything unlocked by default, so we're effectively solving nothing.

    I know that Incognito have its uses, but not everybody needs (or even wants) a "Porn browsing mode" on their browsers, much less easily accessible by mistake due to people fat-fingering! And while having a policy to turn it off is the way to go, hiding it behind enterprisey layers of complexity just because "you're on mobile? That's different!" is not my idea of "being in control".

    Heh, that Naked Browser site certainly looks very anti-webshit-ish, which is a pleasant surprise, a stability island in this sea of insanity. The interface looks very minimalist, which may or may not be great for my mom (anything that doesn't get on her way is welcome, but not if it hides her bookmarks beyond layers of navigation). The "English only" interface is a complete deal breaker as she can't English.

    I ended locating an APK for this: https://www.smajenterprise.com/apps/incognitoaway
    After ensuring that said APK wasn't going to join the tablet to a West Elbonian army of Farcebook bots, I've installed it and found some peace of mind.

    It works with KitKat, supports browsers other than Chrome, and adds a bunch of features I don't need nor want (like access logs stored on Other Person's Computers). And while it doesn't remove/disable the Incognito mode at all, it at least detects when someone opens a Incognito tab, and immediately closes it, leaving Incognito mode (most other blockers work that way). Kinda annoying (as the landmine is still there), but for now that's the best I can do.

    Have you taken a look at this? If you're rooted and have console, it might work.

    Android Studio is not very hard to use - it's geared towards the Indian "software" "developer" clientèle. But it takes insane amounts of resources. 4 GB of RAM is just barely enough if you set everything to minimum and enable swap, and I think the folder was 30 GB or something like that.

    Bookmarks is just sliding from left edge of screen, I think. But yeah, no localization rules it out. Even with a mostly pictorial UI, "open in new tab" and such would be impossible.

    EDIT: Did you check out downloading an older version of Chrome? Should be freely available, and I can't see why they actually need to update it.

    Dear so-called "journalists of the New Free Media":

    If you keep fucking with your websites' design with your Mystery Meat Navigation / Randomized Layouts on devices on MY premises, I'll have to become something even worse that Big Communism that is trying to silence your "voices".

    I AM FUCKING SICK of picking fights with my family (particularly with my own mother) every single time your piece-of-shit vomit-inducing site layouts behave at random, leaving me baffled and making my life difficult each time someone complains when "If I click Back, the page does not return!!!", followed by "STOP CALLING ME AN IDIOT!!!" (with no usage of said word from me, because my only possible answer here is "I don't use that site, you can't expect me to know how it works"), and threats of physical violence and broken smartdevices.

    SERIOUSLY, CUT IT OUT.

    This goes TRIPLE to Google developers too - the Incognito mode saga is far from over (Incoquito breaks quite frequently so I had to uninstall it).

    AAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

    There is absolutely NO NEED to break families and the eventual lead to domestic violence due to the inconsistent design choices of an UXtarded art school dropout that should be starving to death in a concentration camp, instead of earning Silly Valley megabucks, or writing so-called "journalism" AKA gossip/FUD/fake news/shit I don't want to read because I don't give a fuck about what's happening around me nowadays since I lost all hopes in mankind a long time ago.

    Not sure if it's an option here, but have you tried the "add another layer of abstraction to revert someone else's fuckups" mode? Like Readability or Pocket or whatever they call it.

    Another trick is to disable certain domains' JS, but this is only really feasible on computer and on certain web pages - on mobile, it's generally all or nothing.

    See, this is why I started getting my news from the radio. No radio channel ever switched me over to their 'mobile edition,' nor hid behind a paywall. Reading the newspaper, you end up "learning" a lot of stuff that doesn't actually concern you in the slightest, while wasting a lot of time doing so. It's just an obsessive and pointless habit. How does it affect me that X million people have died in some obscure civil war in some backwater shithole in Africa I can't even point out on a map? How does it affect me that there was a traffic accident way out in the middle of nowhere in the countryside? It's just noise and a waste of time.

    Well, at least they're about to die, unless the government steps in and puts them on life support, which they of course will, since they don't want to be branded "enemies of democracy" in the newspaper's dying breath. And so Starbucks gets to keep a loyal customer.

    I wonder if you've noticed what happened to https://www.cracked.com/funny-articles.html. They've redesigned the website recently to make significantly less efficient use of vertical screen space and they now often post links to articles days before the articles are available for viewing (the URL's instead redirect you to the websites homepage).

    your post has extraneous empty space below the quote (and possibly above your code block).

    Yeah, you need to write the stuff before and after without newline too:
    Posted by jimbo1qaz
    your post has extraneous empty space below the quote (and possibly above your code block).
    Code block however does have space on the bottom:
    int
    main(void)
    {
    printf("Hello, world!");
    return 0;
    }
    There can't be any newlines between the opening/closing tag and the text immediately before/after.

    Okay, this is a new one.
    Websites that don't allow you to scroll if JavaScript is disabled
    I don't know why you would ever want to do this. Maybe if you have some extremely retarded website that needs JS to dynamically pull in content, but what possible reason is there for it otherwise? This one renders just fine except for some thumbnails. They manually add a noscroll class to the document they then remove with JavaScript. If I remove it, I can read the article without any problems.
    What possible purpose could this serve? There's no indication I should enable JS, it doesn't seem to form part of a paywall, and the website otherwise seems well designed.

    I've also seen sites use JS to hijack scrolling to do stuff like make vertical scrolling scroll horizontally instead for nonsense like "portfolio sites."
