If you want more robots super, I'm gonna go ahead and plug Mazinkaiser SKL. It is some sort of weirdo alternate universe Mazinger, so no backstory is required.

The titular Mazinkaiser is wielded by a pair of mercenaries, who don't really give a fuck about what's going on as long as they get to smash something. Fortunately, there are lots of things that need smashing, as there's a flying island full of warring mechanoid armies that is about to explode and destroy the Earth if someone doesn't do something in the next three days and they've been sent to make sure it doesn't explode... by blowing up everything else.
It is basically the metal album cover art of mech anime.

Whatever, where is my Mein Kampf anime by ufotable!??!?!

    You're halfway there.

There was a certain photograph about which you had a hallucination. You believed that you had actually held it in your hands. It was a photograph something like this.

When I watch with my wife, I usually let her choose the series, and a few hours ago we just finished the two seasons of Clannad after a few days of bingeing. I was fairly familiar with the title, and although I know it's very well received, it wasn't the type I'd watch on my own (especially because I knew what it entailed). Suffice to say, I still wasn't fully prepared for the emotional roller coaster. And yes, much box tissue was spent especially during the last third of After Story. We watched in batches, so thankfully the heaviest episodes were split up otherwise I would still be a dribbling mess now.

After finishing it though, we immediately picked up Aggretsuko just to ease the weight off our chests. :D

But yeah, Clannad definitely deserves its spot in the list of all-time best anime though.

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

Kaguya wants to be confessed to: The genius's war of love and brains continues to be the best thing ever.

And I'm suddenly wondering: With the comics looking like they're going to wrap up soon, how far through this glorious trainwreck is the anime going to get?
Which leads me to looking things up. It is apparently scheduled for twelve episodes. At three chapters an episode, that gets us a mere 36 chapters. Which would be a MISERABLE stopping point, for the audience as well as the cast.

Don't worry, Fujiwara. There's a bright point coming up.

They're skipping chapters. They've already passed chapter 21 in five episodes. It looks like next episode is starting with chapter 24, if I read things right.

They can't make it to the end that way. BUT if they average 3 aired, one skipped for the whole run they have 48 chapters of reach, and they can make it to the end of summer break with a little room to spare.
Chapters 44 and 45 form a two-parter titled "I Can't Hear the Fireworks", which would actually be an excellent stopping point. It is a local high point for the series, suitably dramatic, the end of their summer vacation, and one I'd personally like to see animated(45 does a neat thing that I'm curious how they will adapt it to animation.)

To be frank, they can't go past it without a second half-season, because ending on any of the next half-dozen of chapters would be a huge anticlimax.

But dammit, I want to see the whole freaking thing.

Also, I've noticed an editing bias. The chapters they're dropping are ones where Shirogane brings his A game. They're making Kaguya look far more cunning than Shirogane, instead of making them appear equal(ly bad at this).

    French Dragonball dubbing

    ---

    - Watched the rest of Release the Spyce. The twist in ep10 was well done, but the ending was a little bit unsatisfying. Maybe because the fight against the last boss was over a bit too quickly.

    - Watched Battle Angel Alita - OVA and the new movie. Enjoyable, but you can tell they left out a ton of stuff.

    My current setup: Super Famicom ("2/1/3" SNS-CPU-1CHIP-02) → SCART → OSSC → StarTech USB3HDCAP → AmaRecTV 3.10

Started watching and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wife wasn't too happy though when we had to stop at ep5 at the time, so we decided to hold off until the entire cour is done before we continue :P

And yes, I believe we may found the way to world peace :D

Haven't seen the movie yet but would really like to. I do have some apprehension though after my experience with Ghost in the Shell; hopefully it's not just all eye candy, but rather actually true to the source material (within reason).

Yeah, I just wish it was getting more than a half a season. That is my biggest complaint, as a long-running fan of the comics.

Gotta remember, James Cameron is a vocal fan of the franchise, and has been for a long time. And he has the clout to tell the studio "Shut up, your ideas are dumb, we're doing what I want".
    ...
I actually suspect he decided to do Alita precisely BECAUSE of how bad Ghost in the Shell turned out. He wanted to make sure no one picked uo Alita and then fucked it up terribly(though Ghost bombing was probably insurance enough against that).

And for what it is worth, I have seen reviews from long-time fans of the comic book say the only real problem with the Alita movie is it tries to do too much in the time allotted. Cameron stays faithful to the source material.

I've been meaning to get out to the theater for this one, but haven't yet.

I thought the Gits live action movie was passable. The anime movie was far better for sure, but I think the Gits universe just can't work that well for live action. I just didn't think there was any reasons for the film to be made. Well at least it wasn't Dragon Ball Evolution Super Saiyan God levels of awful...

Yeah, I wouldn't say GiTS was awful, just felt really flat; compared to say, when I saw Bumblebee. :P

also, if people think only other countries can completely mangle anime>live action adaptations:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20IwsKSAhz4

Yes that's a television series with a budget that probably was fairly small but,I don't care how much budget you have even if you gave Peter Jackson a billion dollars: some things are just meant to stay anime or manga

Yeah, even a big budget Japanese production of a big name title have a potential to flop critically (if not commercially). Of course, there are also very faithful adaptations as well, like Rurouni Kenshin (still not forgiving it for flubbing the Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki though). :P

EDIT: Just watched Alita and was not disappointed. Definitely closer to the source material than GiTS was. I'm just sad it that it might not get a sequel due to lukewarm sales (showing in the same season as a Dragon franchise)

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

Kaguya only has one more episode left. I'm of two minds about this.

On the one hand, it has been a fantastic adaptation of a quite enjoyable manga, and I want it to keep going. So I don't want this final episode.
On the other hand... it is I Can't Hear the Fireworks! And they've done a fantastic job so far, I expect them to do an equally fantastic job here. I SO want this final episode.

I guess what I'm saying is... season 2 plzkthx?
