    MarbleMarcher, a simple game that demonstrates real-time ray-marching of 3D fractals, with physics. Think of it a bit like Marble Madness, but with ridiculous graphics.


    Cool concept, but terrible execution. The levels were just painful to play. They were hard, right, but not in the fun way that hard games usually have. I mean, I suppose that's what you get without level design, but it still wasn't fun.

    Beware of Bumps (the one with the H-shaped bars and the holes between them) and Around the World (globe) were kind of fun, but not much of a challenge to them.

    Ride the Gecko was just painful to play. You kept getting stuck, and it wasn't immediately understandable why there wasn't any acceleration going on. At the same time, when you did complete it, it didn't feel like there was any kind of acceleration going on. Hated it.

    Catwalk felt like it had some elements of normal platform games, although not much.

    Benchmark: 23fps @ 1920x1080 in the first level at the start. That's with two GTX 970 in SLI.

    Make sure to only travel on flat surfaces as much as possible. Don't go straight on, try to land on the flag platform from the side.

    The trick is to accelerate up at a 45 degree angle to get more airtime.

    This captcha monkey business is all so tiresome. At this point, it's not even to keep the robots out, just to train their AIs.
    It's very easy to develop software to crack them - in fact, there's a firefox addon that does just that for you, using Google's public API. So how does it handle the actual mitigation?
    Simple. IP blocks.
    I mean, at that point you might as well just do it yourself and cut the middleman out.

    In the long run though, a replacement is needed that isn't captcha, PoW, or IP checks. Does anyone even have anything like that in the works?

    They miss the point entirely. If they'd make a captcha that required you to be good at English, I would install it in a heartbeat. It wouldn't only filter out bots, but also dodgy third world spammers and the kind of idiots who can't write proper English.

    The Chinese have their own Internet anyway, what's the loss? I sure can't fill out the Chinese character captchas they use on their websites.

    Link's Awakening remake for the Switch.

    A lot of the original game's charm came from the extreme limitations of the original console. Some screens were so packed full of stuff that the developers were forced to butt tiles against one another that normally would require an empty "wall" tile in-between. The game's "descent into madness" theme worked really well even the most simple and obvious things were low-res pixel art that required some amount of interpretation.

    From the few seconds of gameplay footage in the trailer, it looks like they're sticking to the original tile grid instead of making a full 3D re-interpretation, so hopefully the "so dense we nearly couldn't fit it in" feeling will still be there. It also seems they're using a very cartoony, abstract graphical style, so maybe the whole descent-into-madness might still work?

    Still a bit dubious, though. As Jistuce repeatedly points out to anyone who stands within ear-shot for five seconds, Nintendo's Metroid 2 remake didn't really capture what made the original game great, even though it was a good game in its own right.

    I'm a little concerned about the style shown in the trailer. Despite the system's limitations, Link's Awakening was quite epic in tone. Both the music and visuals we saw, however, seem to be leaning more toward "cutesy", which doesn't fit this game at all.

    As I recall, Link's Awakening set that epic tone by starting with a simple and cutesy world, and showing that world crumble. So I don't think cutesy music and visuals are necessarily a mark against the remake, as long they can still be undermined. Heck, maybe they get even *more* cutesy and fake as the game goes on. That'd be pretty cool, and somewhat fitting.

    I hope the Bucket Mouse is still in there, though.

    I...don't know how to feel about this. I've beaten the original and the DX version so many times and have gotten used to the entirety of it and its presentation. While I do like how A Link Between Worlds-like style can potentially enhance something like A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, it seems like all I can really do is reserve judgment until the final result is in my hand since game feel played a huge part in why I loved the original.

    Will the game run at 60FPS like the original? It will feel quite off if it's 30FPS. I mean the original game is 60FPS on hardware that's 100,000th the power of the Switch (or even less).
