    I'm looking for bsnes emulator for Windows 98 SE.

    which is the last version of bsnes for Windows 98 SE and where I can download it (post download link - including the source code)?

    The first version of bsnes was released in 2004, so it would have been designed for Windows XP. Maybe it worked on Windows 98, but if it did, it would have been by accident. I'm not sure there's ever been a version of bsnes that worked on Win98.

    Which is the exact version (numbers)?

    Also which is the first version that has excellent 'Super game boy' and 'Super game boy 2' emulation?

    Can you make a bsnes 0.70 build for Win 98 SE please?

    A PC old enough to require Windows 95 would not be fast enough for bsnes either.

    Why not? Celeron 2.93GHz, Geforce 128mbram, 512 ddr 1, 250GB IDE HDD, DVD-RW. I had problems with bsnes 0.70 on that PC with XP though; sound and screen - 'skips'.

    Previously as I've been examining such things (like benchmarking), on older PC's as such, Win 9x is -at least- twice as faster on games and other things than XP on the same PC.


    ... the main thing that worries me is that I don't have a proper 'Super game boy' and 'Super game boy 2' on Win 9x on that PC. I'm not sure if SameBoy 0.8 emulator would work on Win 9x as it's been released in 2017. But I don't have a proper replacement for Win 9x (and I'm not sure if there's a proper replacement also for BeOS 5 - as I've wrote in other post).

    you might, might get better results running linux.
    bsnes\higan really benefits from having more than one core however.

    Bsnes is not the emu you're looking for. No version of it runs on Windows 98, and while it isn't Crysis-meme levels of power hungry, it really requires more computational might than anything that uses DDR1 can provide.
    (You don't say WHICH Celeron, but the RAM type narrows it down enough. I'm betting Pentium4-based.)

    Hmmm... for 'Super nintendo' emulation I can find other excellent alternative (like zsnes), but for 'Super game boy' and 'Super game boy 2' I couldn't (other than bsnes or Sameboy). SGB and SGB2 are other parts of 'Super nintendo' to be complete.

    Btw Sameboy 0.8 doesn't works on Win 98.

    You're outta luck.

    Many Gameboy emulators offer a minimal SGB experience(they'll successfully acquire borders, and sometimes colors).
    But bsnes and higan are the only emus I know of to ever fully emulate the Super Nintendo/GameBoy marriage. And they won't work on Windows 98, or at an acceptable speed under any OS on the system you're targeting.

    ESPECIALLY not while running Super GameBoy emulation, which is much like running a GameBoy emulator and a Super Nintendo emulator at the same time, only slower because they have to stop to talk to each other frequently.

    For a retrobox, stick to retrosoftware.

    While you could run Linux on that Prescott-based Celeron (which is not a good pick for performance-oriented emulators), you will run very tight on the RAM side (even lightweight distros aren't that great nowadays due mostly to software bloat everywhere), and bsnes most likely will run like crap there.

    And I say this as a guy that still keeps an ol' Northwood for once-in-a-while Genesis emulation (but using an emulator suitable for toasters, like PicoDrive or Kega Fusion, not the good stuff like BlastEm)

    bsnes/higan are in a whole different league, so your use case (running bsnes on an ancient Celeron) is more like to compete in a modern Formula 1 race with a 1993-spec Minardi - not a great car even back then, and a terrible car today.

    I would very strongly recommend Snes9x, especially if the latest works in Windows 98. ZSNES is extremely bad and I know from personal experience of using it in Windows 9x in the 90's and early 2000's. If you insist on using ZSNES I'd suggest the MS-DOS version for performance (you can run it within Windows), just make sure to choose a 16bit graphics mode to get some semblance of transparency for transparency effects.

    v1.36 of ZSNES probably behaves the most *sensibly* so long as you're not playing any games that used special hardware like the SA1, C4 or SuperFX chips.
