So... having seen some stuff about the newest Symphogear, I've decided to get back on the wagon. I dropped it midway through season 3, for various reasons(most of which were unrelated to the show). And now there's five seasons of girls fighting evil using weapons powered by insert songs.

...

I'm STILL annoyed that way back in 2012 season 2 decided every last one of these girls needed to be gay for another one of these girls, and the transformations needed to be sexy like a PROPER magical girl show.
One is just hamfisted pandering(to sell doujins, as opposed to CDs), and the other is traditional magical girl affair but I LIKED the unconventional transformations used in season 1.

This is what happens when your regulators let the company making the plane do the safety evaluations and reviews and don't even spotcheck it.

FAA let Boeing do the reviews, went "seems legit" when Boeing made safety evaluations up out of whole cloth, and now that the things are falling out of the skies the FAA is looking over the garbage Boeing passed them and going "Wow, this is some fake-ass shit, why did we ever sign off on this?"

I'm assuming they're using some sort of embedded microcontroller version that runs at something like 200 MHz. I mean, if it is possible for the Z80, it is possible for the 80286.

The article says it runs at 20 MHz, make of it what you will.

I read it as saying the 80286 part wasn't available in speeds above 20 MHz, which is factually untrue(Intel's 80286 parts went up to 25). And then starts talking about the possibility of overclocking.
More importantly, there are no new 80286s available, and Boeing isn't building a plane reliant on eBay to source parts.

I think they heard it used a 286 core, did some googling to find out what a 286 is, and ran. I don't think they have the actual specs of the system.

I'm curious whether I should that give that a go or not.

I strongly recommend the first season. I have misgivings about S2 and S3, but don't hate them.

I'll get back to you on 4 and 5.

To be clear, I watched season 1 expecting hilarious trash. I got favorites material.

Oh, right. This is why I fell off the wagon during GX. Because I wanted to punch Hibiki's good-for-nothing deadbeat dad in the face, and I CAN'T BECAUSE THIS DAMN SHEET OF GLASS IS IN MY WAY!

...

Also a distinct lack of Tsubasa. The season is heavily driven by character growth(and awesome action scenes), and most of Tsubasa's baggage was dealt with in season 1.
Chris's has been idling below the surface, which I actually appreciate. She's got a fucked-up past, and they've made it clear she's still dealing with it. She's not just "Life is beautiful and all my troubles are washed away by the power of friendship!" Girl has issues, quite justifiably, and she merely wears the facade of a happy and (more-or-less) well-adjusted teenage girl. I mean, seriously, look at the ending lyrics for any season.

I have the opposite issue. I want all games to describe buttons by their Nintendo-sanctioned names. I always screw up quicktime events in xbawks games because they tell me to press 'X' and I start jamming on the top button.
I want Nintendo Co, Ltd to stop insisting the dyslexic labels they put on the Nintendo controller are in any way right, and start putting button labels in the correct order.

See, Soviet Venezuelan banking system was pretty much forced -complete with kicking and screaming along the way- to embrace the joy of mobile payments, just like more civilized countries like Japan or Kenya have been doing since forever (and something USA will never adopt due to heavy corporate interests because God forbid you pay for that soda through interoperable payment standards).

Actually, the thing holding mobile pay back now is card readers. Lots and lots of card readers out there without any way of talking to a pocket computer. And the card reader manufacturers are going to charge a premium to upgrade to a new model with more features(card reader manufacturers apparently treat their customers as poorly as can possibly be done, so of course they charge extra for everything).

Some places have NFC readers, and they support Google Pay and Apple Pay.
For everywhere else, there's Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay works everywhere, because the PDAs that support it simulate ye olde magnetic stripe via actuation of an internal electromagnet. No one has to upgrade their hardware to include NFC readers. It is a clever hack, and I respect that, even if I hope to never own another Samsung phone ever again.

That said, "banks are awful" is a universal truth.

If I ever write another forum software I'll keep that in mind.

Just use <table> for everything. CSS is inconvenient and overly-complex.

From Wikipedia's 737 MAX article:

Early news reports were inaccurate in attributing the problem to an 80286[238] microprocessor overwhelmed with data. The problem was in fact caused by deliberately flipping five bits in the flight control computer. The bits represent status flags such as whether MCAS is active (which disables the cutout switch), or whether the tail trim motor is energized. Engineers were able to simulate single event upsets and artificially induce MCAS activation by manipulating these signals. Such fault occurs when memory bits are flipped from 0 to 1 or vice versa. This can happen due to cosmic rays striking the microprocessor circuits.[223]

I know it is accurate because it has citations.

Also, the most important part is not "OMG THE ENTIRE PLANE IS RUNNING ON A PC AT". It is that, after the Federal Aviation Administration allowed Boeing to short-circuit the standard federal safety review process and present their own internal safety reviews for certification instead of FAA regulators doing an independent review, Boeing subsequently lied to the FAA about how the new computer system was configured, lied to the FAA about how much influence the new system had on flight, and pressured their engineers doing the safety tests to not do safety tests while the FAA managers pressured their staff to take Boeing's word that the documentation presented was comprehensive and truthful.

Holy shit, yo.

1) Doesn't USA have a banking regulator office or something that can force banks to actually not be complete assholes when talking about paying over anything that isn't a credit/debit card!? (oh, I forgot "interoperability" is a curse word up there).

Of course not. Everyone with money has spent ages dismantling any sort of regulation at every conceivable level.
In fairness, though as I understand things the payment processors your retailers lease the card readers from aren't banks. Merely middlemen with a very lucrative middle.

2) Wow, you guys still rely on magstripes. I can't even... Your banking system is indeed masochist by design then.
Trufax: Our financial industry was insisting that magnetic stripe was good enough and we had plenty of security mechanisms in place so we didn't need to make the cards more complex(and expensive).
...
Then Target lost an entire year's worth of credit card numbers through the fucking air conditioner, and the industry collectively went "The fuck was your AC even doing on the financial system, Target? Fine, we need chips because there's no accounting for stupid."

And then the PEOPLE started resisting chips because they believe they're easier to hack and can be cloned remotely and I DON'T KNOW I HATE EVERYONE.

We've got the RGB LED craze everywhere inside of our PRO GEAR SPEC TYPE GT-RAGE "gamer" PCs:

- in our PSUs
- in our motherboards
- in our cases
- and even in our videocards

(There is now even a bunch of competing standards for RGB lighting on motherboards, some of them driven over USB and others requiring proprietary mobo plugs and wires)

Now, get welcome to the next level: RGB-driven SSDs:
https://www.nikktech.com/main/articles/pc-hardware/storage/solid-state-drives/9699-hyperx-fury-rgb-480gb-ssd-review?showall=1

Too bad it's an "about average" drive (any Samsung or Crucial drive will give you better performance per dollar, and that's not getting NVMe in the mix yet - we're talking about ordinary SATA drives). But hey, it's all about the looks! Who cares about speed when you've got the bling?

Isn't that the drive that overheats because of all the lights and then slows down so much it crashes the system?
*checks the internetz*
Yes, yes it is!

You got a link to a good article on that Target fiasco?
Just do a search for "target breach"
It was all over the news for a couple months due in part to scope.

But have a ZDNet retrospective.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-target-breach-two-years-later/

The article contains a link to an article from Krebs.
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2014/02/email-attack-on-vendor-set-up-breach-at-target/

(Also, I lied. It wasn't an entire year's worth of data, just an entire holiday season's worth. Not much better.)

@sureofnothing Japan is a cash-only society? Since when? NFC? Check. InsertBrandHerePay? Check. Credit Card at the checkout? Check. Using your train-pass for everything you can poke a stick at? Check. Buy one of ten thousand different branded cash cards at every convenience store that is available every couple of blocks in a built-up area? Check.

As usual, everything you post is TL&Stupid;DR, but two cents had to put in here.
I admit I was looking forward to this post, but expected a rant about ass-backwards incompetent practices.

I'll give you an out for your ridiculous argument: Japan is experiencing a population issue currently where the number of aged people are increasing and the number of births are decreasing. There, now you have something to continue your babble with.
So no one uses cards because they're all obsessed with writing CHECKS! UGH! NUKE THE PLACE NOW!... wait, we tried that already.

Certain banks still require hankos, here. It's stupid because you can buy a standard hanko anywhere as long as they have your family name. I have way too long a last name and decided to mispell my first name in katakana when I had a custom one made. That still doesn't mean that my hanko isn't easier to forge than any signature. Mind you, most places let you use your signature if you're a foreigner these days. Signing for stuff is stupid here, too. I sign for $gf's deliveries and vice-versa. Ass-backwards enough for you, 'Cap?
I will accept it.

They used to be hunting tools. Though perhaps "carrier pigeon" would've been more in keeping with the theme of the comic.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this, unless you're bad at handling your economy. If you're concerned with global warming and housing shortages and all that, then letting your population naturally level out ought to be the best for the long run.
It is a huge problem if your handling of the elderly and infirm is not "leave them to be eaten by wolves", as it continues to skew the population distribution and leaves every young able-bodied individual to support a larger number of elderly and infirm individuals.

And no, "so feed them to the wolves" is not the appropriate response.

I want Nintendo Co, Ltd to stop insisting the dyslexic labels they put on the Nintendo controller are in any way right, and start putting button labels in the correct order.

Is the Microsoft way any more "right"?

We read up → down and left → right.

On Microsoft controllers, A is to the left of B, but B is above A
On Nintendo controllers, A is above B, but A is to the right of B.

So both controllers get something wrong and something right. And that's the most you can ever do as long as we're using a diamond layout. (Well, I guess you could put A and B on opposite sides, but that would be weird.)

If anything, I think Nintendo's arrangement makes more logical sense. Because if I'm reading a paragraph, I'll always read the top line first, even if the first word is indented or what have you.

What would be really nice is if Microsoft just hadn't decided to change up the order in the first place! (Or should we blame Sony for swapping the confirm and deny buttons in the west for some arcane reason, even though they used different symbols?)
Why does Microsoft get credit for inventing button labels that read in the right order when Sega's been doing it since the 80s?

As far as top to bottom goes... the quad could stand to have a shallower slant. Or we could go back to a 3/3 layout.
