So... having seen some stuff about the newest Symphogear, I've decided to get back on the wagon. I dropped it midway through season 3, for various reasons(most of which were unrelated to the show). And now there's five seasons of girls fighting evil using weapons powered by insert songs. ... I'm STILL annoyed that way back in 2012 season 2 decided every last one of these girls needed to be gay for another one of these girls, and the transformations needed to be sexy like a PROPER magical girl show. One is just hamfisted pandering(to sell doujins, as opposed to CDs), and the other is traditional magical girl affair but I LIKED the unconventional transformations used in season 1. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

This is what happens when your regulators let the company making the plane do the safety evaluations and reviews and don't even spotcheck it. FAA let Boeing do the reviews, went "seems legit" when Boeing made safety evaluations up out of whole cloth, and now that the things are falling out of the skies the FAA is looking over the garbage Boeing passed them and going "Wow, this is some fake-ass shit, why did we ever sign off on this?" --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

Posted by sureanem I read it as saying the 80286 part wasn't available in speeds above 20 MHz, which is factually untrue(Intel's 80286 parts went up to 25). And then starts talking about the possibility of overclocking. More importantly, there are no new 80286s available, and Boeing isn't building a plane reliant on eBay to source parts. I think they heard it used a 286 core, did some googling to find out what a 286 is, and ran. I don't think they have the actual specs of the system. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

Oh, right. This is why I fell off the wagon during GX. Because I wanted to punch Hibiki's good-for-nothing deadbeat dad in the face, and I CAN'T BECAUSE THIS DAMN SHEET OF GLASS IS IN MY WAY! ... Also a distinct lack of Tsubasa. The season is heavily driven by character growth(and awesome action scenes), and most of Tsubasa's baggage was dealt with in season 1. Chris's has been idling below the surface, which I actually appreciate. She's got a fucked-up past, and they've made it clear she's still dealing with it. She's not just "Life is beautiful and all my troubles are washed away by the power of friendship!" Girl has issues, quite justifiably, and she merely wears the facade of a happy and (more-or-less) well-adjusted teenage girl. I mean, seriously, look at the ending lyrics for any season. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

Posted by tomman Actually, the thing holding mobile pay back now is card readers. Lots and lots of card readers out there without any way of talking to a pocket computer. And the card reader manufacturers are going to charge a premium to upgrade to a new model with more features(card reader manufacturers apparently treat their customers as poorly as can possibly be done, so of course they charge extra for everything). Some places have NFC readers, and they support Google Pay and Apple Pay. For everywhere else, there's Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay works everywhere, because the PDAs that support it simulate ye olde magnetic stripe via actuation of an internal electromagnet. No one has to upgrade their hardware to include NFC readers. It is a clever hack, and I respect that, even if I hope to never own another Samsung phone ever again. That said, "banks are awful" is a universal truth. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

From Wikipedia's 737 MAX article:Early news reports were inaccurate in attributing the problem to an 80286[238] microprocessor overwhelmed with data. The problem was in fact caused by deliberately flipping five bits in the flight control computer. The bits represent status flags such as whether MCAS is active (which disables the cutout switch), or whether the tail trim motor is energized. Engineers were able to simulate single event upsets and artificially induce MCAS activation by manipulating these signals. Such fault occurs when memory bits are flipped from 0 to 1 or vice versa. This can happen due to cosmic rays striking the microprocessor circuits.[223] I know it is accurate because it has citations. Also, the most important part is not "OMG THE ENTIRE PLANE IS RUNNING ON A PC AT". It is that, after the Federal Aviation Administration allowed Boeing to short-circuit the standard federal safety review process and present their own internal safety reviews for certification instead of FAA regulators doing an independent review, Boeing subsequently lied to the FAA about how the new computer system was configured, lied to the FAA about how much influence the new system had on flight, and pressured their engineers doing the safety tests to not do safety tests while the FAA managers pressured their staff to take Boeing's word that the documentation presented was comprehensive and truthful. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

Posted by tomman Of course not. Everyone with money has spent ages dismantling any sort of regulation at every conceivable level. In fairness, though as I understand things the payment processors your retailers lease the card readers from aren't banks. Merely middlemen with a very lucrative middle. Trufax: Our financial industry was insisting that magnetic stripe was good enough and we had plenty of security mechanisms in place so we didn't need to make the cards more complex(and expensive). ... Then Target lost an entire year's worth of credit card numbers through the fucking air conditioner, and the industry collectively went "The fuck was your AC even doing on the financial system, Target? Fine, we need chips because there's no accounting for stupid." And then the PEOPLE started resisting chips because they believe they're easier to hack and can be cloned remotely and I DON'T KNOW I HATE EVERYONE. --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |
