Also, Friend Of The BBoard Covarr occasionally crops up, so keep an eye out for that.

I've been upgraded to assistant video editor. Probably won't be making any more actual appearances outside of streams now and then, but this does give me the freedom to do some sneaky easter eggs, like a lip flap bit in the Sonic 06 episode that totally wasn't in the script.

Disclaimer: Now that I'm helping out with some of his video editing, I'm getting paid for it, so even though I do fully believe The Geek Critique's content is totally worth the time to watch it (I began as a fan myself), take everything I say with a grain of shill.

Even if Steamboat Willie enters the public domain, that's just a gloveless husk of a Mickey who can't even wear red pants. Outside of the growing archival and cultural preservation crowd, Disney just doesn't have a lot to lose here, and they know it, especially given the massive profits to be found in brand new live-action remakes complete with brand new copyrights.

...Or maybe they're being insidious, hoping that a bunch of get-rich-quick types will think Mickey in general is public domain and start selling illegal merch in the style of modern Mickey so that Disney can sue and make bank. Truth be told, I think there's more profit to be had there than in Steamboat Willie at this point.

Also applies to US, but it's not that great; the deal is only good for the first month. It's like a free trial, except not free.

If you're keeping video recordings of concerts, filling up your hard drives is actually super easy, barely an inconvenience.

because it's a full-screen SDL app it hides the task-switching soft button, and the only way to switch to another app is to completely shut down RetroArch.

You should be able to swipe up from the bottom of the screen (the physical bottom, as though you were in portrait) to make it reappear.

And seconding BearOso's suggestion of Nova Launcher. It is far and away the best launcher for Android.

I'm a little concerned about the style shown in the trailer. Despite the system's limitations, Link's Awakening was quite epic in tone. Both the music and visuals we saw, however, seem to be leaning more toward "cutesy", which doesn't fit this game at all.

Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch announced!

This is, in fact, the best thing Nintendo announced yesterday, by merit of being more Super Mario Maker, the original of which was already the best game of the decade so far.

any of the smart (read: dumb) stuff that just adds to the cost without any meaningful value.

FWIW, ever since they realized they could track and sell our viewing histories, "smart" TVs have generally skewed cheaper than traditional "dumb" TVs. Hooray for corporations using our data to subsidize product sales!

Technically, the PS4 itself doesn't have any form of analog output. The controller is a different device.

The beacons of pedantry! The beacons are lit! Jistuce calls for aid! And Covarr will answer.

I believe the term you are searching for, the term which will best defend your position, is "accessory". I think most reasonable people would call a controller an accessory, yes? It can be purchased separately, and is interchangeable between units. Certainly the sites that sell them seem to agree: Amazon, GameStop, etc. all use the word. And do you know what else is an accessory?

An accessory is, by its very definition, not the same thing as the device it connects to.

But quite frankly, this all ignores the larger issue: HDMI is only easier in the most basic use cases. Wanna hook up your game console to a TV and nothing else? Fine and dandy. Wanna run video over HDMI but not audio, even from a device that can output audio over HDMI? Often trickier. Wanna run audio over HDMI but not video? Good luck.

Discrete audio and video cables over connections that only support one or the other may mean an extra wire, but the potentially hours of headaches they save are totally worth a few seconds screwing in a cable.

it ought to be noted, this likely has nothing to do with net neutrality

This assessment is probably correct. That doesn't make this not-scummy, though; this very much carries the stink of snake oil with it.

This is why society should have adopted the labels on the CD32 controller as standard. There really is no room to argue alphabetical order, left-to-right, etc. They are in the positions they are in and that is that.
