No, not sandboxed in a separate process. It should still have full access to the memory of the Firefox process, but if it crashes it shouldn't bring FF down with it, but rather just stop interacting with the browser.
If it has full access to the entire Firefox memory space, there's no way to prevent it from crashing Firefox.

So why isn't it more popular? When I show people it, the reactions are either "that's absolutely disgusting, never show me it again," or "that's amazing, why haven't I heard of this before?". But nobody seems to be able to explain why they hate it, other than that it's unfamiliar.

Because code formatting comes down to personal preference, and people are using whatever style they're comfortable with already.

(I happen to think naming styles is kind of silly. And naming them after specific people is incredibly vain, given most of them have been organically developed numerous times.)

Sure, they could overwrite its memory, but that's not something to happen by accident.
Innumerable horrible glitches in equally innumerable pieces of software suggest otherwise.

If it can be done, it WILL be done accidentally.

Writing to RAM you're not supposed to touch is the kind of glitch that used to crash entire computers in the Old Days, when each process had unfettered access to the entire system's resources.
...
So ultimately, you're arguing that Windows 95 never crashed.

We don't take the performance hit that isolating processes entails because it is fun.

Windows 95 has virtual address spaces. You probably meant DOS or Windows<=3.11.
Well, DOS is single-tasking.

I was pretty sure 9x offered no protection from out of bounds access, and thus anything could trample the system.

I gotta say, there's a lot of room for improvement in the current TV standards.
More bits of color, wider dynamic range, and yes, higher resolution. 1920x1080 is not a perfect resolution that reaches beyond the resolving power of the human eye.

As far as smart TVs... my parents use the integrated streaming apps.
They're a desirable feature for a lot of people that don't want to have to plug another box into their TV to watch the Netflixes.
I question what world you live in where EVERYBODY hooks a laptop up to their TV. I live in a world where people are still surprised that is something you can actually do, or don't even own a laptop.

Just adding to what Bear mentioned and somewhat emphasizing my point -- I would like to be able to buy a TV with good IQ and audio and without any of the smart (read: dumb) stuff that just adds to the cost without any meaningful value.

So... a computer monitor and a pair of speakers?
You'll pretty much never get good audio out of a panel display, because good audio requires a lot of space.

CaptainJistuce I find 1920x1080 to be exceptional, when watching a Bluray and Full HD Free-to-Air TV is very good too. Upscaling of standard definition media is terrible though, but that's usually because such media is also using significantly inferior encoding & compression quality.

Same argument I had when people were claiming HD wasn't needed, DVD was fantastic, and you couldn't actually see the difference between 480p and 720p and that the human eye can't actually perceive 1080p.
I can still see pixels, I can still see color banding, there's still room for improvement.
...
In fact, in terms of color and dynamic range, we're still trying to catch up to "hopelessly obsolete" CRTs. We're NOT YET EQUAL to the technology we abandoned at the turn of the century.

Upscaling doesn't count for anything, of course, because you can't get more out than you put in. It is never NOT going to be 480-line content(or 720-line content, or whatever weirdo vertical resolution is going in).

Also, I gravely dislike that frame rates have been capped at 60 for so long, as someone who greatly enjoyed running his VGA(-esque) CRT at higher refresh rates. To say nothing of the scourge of chroma subsampling.

And mostly unrelated to anything, HDMI is a garbage standard.

At a distance of 10-15 feet, 1080p->2160p on anything less than 55 inches is indistinguishable. Even then it wouldn't make much difference. Up close, however, 2160p is significantly better. I can't go back to 96dpi computer displays. I'm hoping for a 5120x2880 27" monitor (other than the one that's out). That would be perfection.
Fifteen feet? There's not a room in this house you can get fifteen feet from the TV.

Both our TVs are 55" at about six feet. I can grab the tape measure when I get home. But at 15 feet, I'd definitely be looking at something bigger than 55".

Have you considered adding support for Youtube embeds? When I use the [youtube] tags with just the tail end of the URL it restores the whole URL instead of embedding the video...
Hey!
That was my first request ever was to REMOVE that obnoxious anti-feature.

BTW, the little graph bars for poll threads are illegible on the "old metal" theme, as the first bar is black on a black background.

Wasn't it omitted because page loads would get very slow?
I... never had an issue with it on Byuu's forum and I'm using an ancient CPU (though with videos performance is largely dependent on the video card and the number of videos simultaneously playing).
I did, to the point that I tried to stay out of threads I knew people were embedding videos into(particularly when dicking about on my smartphone datacard). Even worse when the network is acting up and everything is slow.

This was discussed on page 1 of this thread.

any of the smart (read: dumb) stuff that just adds to the cost without any meaningful value.

FWIW, ever since they realized they could track and sell our viewing histories, "smart" TVs have generally skewed cheaper than traditional "dumb" TVs. Hooray for corporations using our data to subsidize product sales!
Hooray!

More seriously, the online television also has more features people want. The price fell due to volume disparity.
...
I really should put our Vizios' mothership into the router's blocklist, even if I did explicitly disable the viewing data collection.

HDMI supports audio. That's one big reason to use it.
Personally, I'd rather run two cables than suffer HDMI's myriad issues. Especially given the number of issues it has caused(such as people having to upgrade audio systems because their amp didn't support newer VIDEO features).
But I don't get the option.

The default colors are the standard CGA, though one set has black and the other does not. This discrepancy should be gone now. The braces poll has its own custom bar colors, so I'd have to edit that in the DB to make it not black.
Polls can have custom colors? The heck?
