Currently playing through Bayonetta 1, nice 2009 game that got a PC port in 2017. I'm getting the impression that it's not really for me though since I just can't seem to memorize all the combos. The MOS 6502 was used in lots of video game and home computer systems. It was chosen as the core of the Nintendo Famicom CPU, which Nintendo later based the SNES architecture on. *bump* So I was getting the SNS-CPU-GPM-02 out again to play some games. There was a problem though - it wouldn't turn on. After opening the case everything looked fine. Maybe it was the voltage regulator? So I bought 10 of those, and a small multimeter from the nearest hardware store. Turns out just the fuse was blown for some reason... So I bought some 1cm 1.5A fuses and a soldering iron kit and a cheap electronics starter kit while we're at it because why not. Replaced all the fuses on all my units too, because while the ordered fuses were underway I somehow managed to screw up the other units' fuses as well. (I no longer wonder why Nintendo bothered to include them.) While all these cases were open, I couldn't help but notice that while the pins on these chips are ridiculously small, there's still some space to maybe get a probe in there. And anomie & byuu did report some curious oddities about the Refresh signal... So I bought a 16ch logic analyzer. (Not from the original developer, so it was a bit cheaper.) While the fuses and all that stuff was in the process of arriving, I got a bit antsy about the state of my SNES collection. What if they were all damaged beyond repair? Also, the SNS-CPU-GPM-02 (the NTSC/PAL switchable one) had a bit of a mishap - at some point one the PPU pins that had a wire soldered to it broke off. There are reports of people who managed to dremel into the chip body to reach the remaining pin metal and connect it to something, but I'm sure they didn't have to deal with such a small layout... So I bought a Super Famicom again - only €20! (And people say this hobby can get expensive!) The serial number on the bottom was a curiously low S12141180, and after opening the case I saw my precious treasure - it's a 30-year old 1/1/1! Shielded like a TANK, all chips still separated, ideal for probing. And I can theoretically explore that buggy DMA/HDMA behavior of the first hardware revision...
