Kaguya Wants to be Confessed to: the Genius' War of Love and Brains(official english title is Kaguya-sama: Love is war) is absolutely fantasticly absurd.

Premise: the student council president and vice-president both like each other. But they've both determined that the person who asks the other out will forever be at a disadvantage in the relationship.
So they start plotting and scheming to force the other one to make the first move while deflecting their counterpart's efforts. All while the secretary keeps throwing monkey wrenches into the works and the announcer is REALLY excited.

Been following the manga for ages, and this is a perfect adaptation.

As an aside, how do you make up an english title out of whole cloth and STILL wind up with an honorific?

Biikoosu Zjapaniisu desu :D

Seriously, it does look like an interesting series. I've been watching more school slice-of-life titles since that's what my wife likes to watch. :P

This is an awesome slice-of-high-school-life show instead of a "can we just shoot them all so something happens" show. So at least you're in good hands.

So there's an anime called Super Beast Machine God Dancouga. It straddles the line between a semi-realistic military mecha show and a classic "FORM BLAZING SWORD" super robot production, giving us a story where aliens have invaded the Earth and the military built a "FORM BLAZING SWORD" super robot. The title mechanoid doesn't show up for the first time until the series is halfway over, because there's a lot of plot beyond "stab the monster of the week".
It is weird and poorly-paced, but it occupies a unique space in anime history and has a style that makes it impossible to hate.
There's an enduring fanbase that ensures that the Dancouga team keeps showing up in the Super Robot Wars anime crossover games even when they use literally none of the show's plot(at one point just dropping the mech in and handwaving it away with a one-sentence explanation that it was built by the cast of a completely different show), and Bandai even designed their own fanfic enhanced version of Dancouga for the games that combines with a canonically dead character's canonically destroyed mecha because they thought he was cool and wanted to undo his death.

THAT is not what I watched tonight. I watched the four-episode OVA, Dancouga: Blazing Epilogue. It is rushed, full of abrupt out-of-nowhere plot twists that are never developed or forgotten about in ten minutes, and large portions of the show are animated on a shoestring budget. Characters literally come back from the dead, and then one of the main characters is literally stuffed in a freezer so the zombie character can take over his role.
It is a thoroughly mediocre OVA from an era that had much better to offer, like the immediately preceding and utterly delightful God Bless Dancouga(to say nothing of icons like Bubblegum Crisis), and comes with nothing to recommend it beyond the name. So I watched it anyways, already KNOWING it was awful and takes a dump on the show.

And now I'm upset that this was the final entry of the series(Dancouga Nova being an almost entirely-unrelated thing). On top of it all, it was unneeded, with God Bless being a pretty much perfect end note already.

The most important question on my mind is a direct result of the series straddling the line between real robot and super robot genres. In a world where Earth has been nearly destroyed by godlike beings that could only be opposed by a single team of four pilots in a custom combiner no fewer than THREE times, why the hell haven't they built more than one Dancouga? It seems like it would be a pressing concern during any given military rebuild.

I can't really call "I played a videogame" to 10 minutes of fooling around on a random ROM in an emulator, but if we strictly stick to the meaning of the phrase, yes, I've played Pepsiman. Yes, the infamous Pepsiman.

The game is stupid, controls are awkward (seriously, you can't turn!?!?! Also, controls get inverted when you enter the shed where you exit inside a trashcan, which gets incredibly confusing at first, and even once you get that you should move the "wrong" way, you can't really properly control your character), Pepsiman is insanely WEAK (he can survive 3-4 hits and that's all), although I have no complaints about the cutscenes.
I can't believe a visual novel developer actually developed THIS (it would be like asking Kojima to write a Hello Kitty game). Also, I can't believe Western publishers (and PepsiCo itself) let that opportunity pass. But now I get why 20 years ago, every street seller of bootleg PSX games had at least five or six copies of Pepsiman, in a country where the cola wars never really cooled down.

Thankfully I'm a Pepsi guy (fuck Coke forever), otherwise I would never ever have bothered trialing this... "game".

... now where is my ice cold Pepsi? I could really have one right now :/
I played Pepsi Invaders once. Modified version of VCS Space Invaders. Was apparently distributed at a Coke investor's meeting or some such.

impossible to hate

I see you haven't been to myanimelist's forum threads yet.
Just a bunch of SJWs crying about racism because they were triggered by the team's visit to the great mexican city of Tacos.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

... the Dancouga team keeps showing up in the Super Robot Wars anime crossover games ...

I would have never known Dancouga if not for Super Robot Wars 4

That's the first SRW with the D in it! And one of the ones that uses a significant portion of Dancouga plot, too.
Though they were already fanfic-retconning deaths out. Shapiro dodges his chump death and moves to final boss status, because his megalomania will not be denied! (nor his hairspray and mascara)

I was always of the understanding that in giant robot anime, the titular robot almost always requires a significant cost in time and resources to develop and maintain, so the world can only ever afford one (sometimes two) at a time.
That's the problem with Dancouga hitting the realism angle. They built the first one during a war, starting AFTER the aliens invaded. And repaired it several times during said war. One would assume that without humanity against the ropes, they could afford to make a couple of them.
(They also almost completely rebuilt the thing after the first battle came to an end.)

Another common conceit for the traditional singular super robot is a critical materials shortage.
GaoGaiGar, for instance, is built around an alien mechalion, of which only one exists and they can't replicate. Mazinger Z uses technology invented by Dr. Kabuto, who took the secret of its construction to his grave(until his son comes back from the dead with his newer, better Mazinger that he built all on his own).

Learned today: Hot-blooded over-the-top super robot anime Gaogaigar was apparently created explicitly as a reaction to, and rejection of Evangelion's very popular brand of angsty drama.

"You say you have children forced to pilot war machines, gory violence, and people nuking Tokyo? Well, WE have a robot lion that combines with a bullet train and a stealth bomber to make a bigger robot! And then it combines with a robot tank to smash bad guys with a giant squeaky hammer!* And a police car that turns into a robot ninja! SO THERE!"

If you want more robots super, I'm gonna go ahead and plug Mazinkaiser SKL. It is some sort of weirdo alternate universe Mazinger, so no backstory is required.

The titular Mazinkaiser is wielded by a pair of mercenaries, who don't really give a fuck about what's going on as long as they get to smash something. Fortunately, there are lots of things that need smashing, as there's a flying island full of warring mechanoid armies that is about to explode and destroy the Earth if someone doesn't do something in the next three days and they've been sent to make sure it doesn't explode... by blowing up everything else.
It is basically the metal album cover art of mech anime.

If this is the most crap idea you've ever heard

Not even in the top ten. Not even the worst idea in this thread, as there's already one suggestion that is a complete non-starter due to hardware expense.

You're gonna have to up your game if you wanna compete. Add some Visual Basic scripts, maybe a blockchain solution.

Also, hi. Welcome to the board.

Why has the race between web browsers for the highest version number slowed so significantly?

Because they all started hiding the version numbers and forcing autoupdates. It is just Firefox and Chrome now. Version numbers are a secret because you should only be running the most recent version. The old one kills babies, so they had to change the UI to make the infanticide option harder to enable.

I would complain about simply ASSUMING that the favicon is showing, except my own experiments have already demonstrated this forum is nigh-unusable on older browsers anyways, and pretty much everything defaults to aggressively searching for favicons in as many places as possible.

As a general rule, this is a terrible accessibility move, but... we're not exactly Reddit or Facebook here. And he's right, the icon IS quite distinguishable, even at the tiny size present on my setup.

SGB technically can read GBC-exclusive games.
If only to generate error screens. (a couple years ago, someone actually made an image gallery of all the "GBC required" error screens.
Though I don't think any went to the effort of that Dracula X PCE error screen minigame. :D

Yeah, it reads them in the same manner a regular monochrome GameBoy does.

The more likely outcome is someone's business forking firefox after oxidization gets to sufficient levels.
Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll make Gecko something generally useful again instead of "Firefox proprietary core do not touch"

First JavaScript, now Rust, when will it end?
I was thinking of XUL, actually. Which, in fairness, isn't really a programming language. I meant to pull a word out before I hit post, and failed.

What about Pale Moon? It's Gecko and it's still maintained.
Technically, it is a fork of Gecko now.
There are doubts the developer can keep backporting fixes to his fork. That's part of why Seamonkey hasn't just shifted to his fork of Gecko and is still trying to work with Mozilla's shitfest.

Arguably, one went BEYOND Castlevania X: Rondo of Blood, offering an actaully-functional(but still incomplete) game.

Whoo SD3SNES!
...
I wonder what the primary reason for this is. Is it because there's a burning desire to emulate the Super GameBoy and that one shogi game, or because the FPGA used is leaving production, or XXX?
