Sounds like the "warrior" were the programmer(s) themselves.

Just like in the NES Turrican credits.

Whow, didn't know there was a Turrican game for the NES. Regardless, it looks pretty impressive for the system.

NASR Big Bird (Rashid) VS. RB Bonchan (Karin) EVO 2019 Grand FInals - CPT 2019

It's really too bad Bonchan is forced to play Karin because Sagat just isn't strong enough in many matchups as I'm sure he would have prefered to main him (he did picked him against Infexious) like he did in IV.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Evo 2019 Grand Finals
Normally, I don't watch (or play) Smash but this was a good final I think. One thing to note for me, watching this game in anything other than 60fps is awful, much worse than watching say Tekken 7 in 30fps.

Soul Calibur VI new season and new character
And for once a guest character that make sense in the game's universe.

Tekken 7 new season reveal

New Guilty Gear

Really, only Capcom was left out of any new announcement because of the leak. But overall, pretty good EVO.

edit:
Not from this Evo but that was a hype Tekken final last May.

Danger state is lifted again, and this time both the findings in the Search Console are gone.

Confirmed here. Right now, I no longer get the warnings.

So I've been using this site to compress PNG images:
https://tinypng.com/

It generally gives a 50-60% reduction in size without any noticeable loss in quality.

Relying on an external website like this isn't really ideal however so I searched for a program that could give the same results but didn't find one until I stumble upon:
https://pngquant.org/

That's probably what the tinypng.com place use I'm guessing.
I personally prefer the PNGoo GUI. You can batch-convert files easily by using drag and drop and there's an option to overwrite the old files.

Example:

Before compression - 52.2K (Retroarch screenshot)

After compression 23.7K

Final Fantasy - NES

Followed a guide because no way I was going in that thing blind. Man, what a brutal game...Re-targeting (when enemies are already defeated)? Nope. Reviving KOed party members at the inn? Nope. When you use a tent? Lol, please. Painfully slow battles? Oh yeah.

Really, just play the WonderSwan Color (also on GBA as Dawn of Souls) remake if you must.

If you want an even more painful play-through, there's also an MSX version. Played it like 2 mins and noped out (also you have to hold CTLR during boot because reason). And no, that's not a problem with the video capture in the link; it really is that choppy. There's a grand total of 1 frame of in-between animation when you're moving around (I assume because the MSX wasn't too good at doing scrolling).

Am in the middle of FFV Advance.

Still haven't got to the new GBA exclusive Jobs.

I highly recommend the Final Fantasy V - Sound restoration hack.
Not only does it restore the SNES music (though the sound quality is not as good as the SNES of course) so you don't get the awful GBA musics but it also fix a lot of the performance issues of the GBA port.

- a system for patching bugs in commercially-released games since some games did goofy things even on the original hardware

So if I got this right, this is essentially a database of game patches that's automatically applied if the option is turned on?

Meh, the thing is the battles are so slow, you end up having to run from most of them after a while, which shouldn't be the case imo. It's a good game... for its time. It hasn't aged that well imo. Unless you're speed running it (which involve pressing reset a lot).

FFII has aged better for me (though it has a weird battle system).

Oh yeah, the buying one heal/item at a time thing (which -unless you're very high level, you'll probably need a lot of for the final dungeon) as healing with your mages outside of battle is just not worth it usually.

Yes, although right now it's a database with exactly one entry. And I don't think it patches the game, so much as it patches RAM at power-on to match what the game expects. But, y'know, we'll see how the feature evolves.

I see. Sounds good.

Hopefully, one day there's one entry that fix the Chemist drink glitch in FFV :)

And then I decide to watch it 15 minutes before midnight... smart :D

Not to keep you up but there's also one on the history of (warp) SMB speedruns if you haven't seen it.

He also has made these speedruns history videos for other games. Haven't seen any others except for The History of Blindfolded Punch-Out which I thought was pretty interesting too.

Today I finished playing through Famicom Detective Club II again. Both I+II are getting remade for Switch next year, so it was a great time to revisit the game.
I'm still really curious about FDC1, as it remains untranslated to this day. (though a translation started development last year)

Also, it's funny because this Super Famicom version is already a remake in itself, meaning II is getting remade twice.
If you boot up the game without any save files, you're greeted with the FDS boot screen and get to watch the old title screen of the game transition to the new version.

https://www.romhacking.net/translations/850/
Never played it but looks interesting, I'll probably add it to my translation playlist.

Speaking of hacks, I've been playing some Metroid hacks from metroidconstruction and some of those are pretty amazing.

I can't recommend Project Base enough. It retain the same basic world layout but every room has been redone. New assets, new and or tweaked mechanics/physics (the backward jump is pretty fun and useful), new paths that connects some of the different zones etc. Even the Samus suit screen has been given a face-lift. It's slightly harder but not overly so. It's basically a fresh yet familiar take on an old classic most know well by now.

On the NES front there's
Metroid - Rogue Dawn

Only started it but it's amazingly impressive.

I just tried Rogue Dawn out, and I've got to say the execution of it is pretty great.
As far as ROM hacks go, it's so extensively changed from the original game to the point of really being its own thing. The new graphics, music, etc all have a nice mysterious atmosphere to them.

Indeed, it's not your run-of-the-mill hack, it's amazingly professional. There's quite a bit of ASM modifications (something a more standard hack won't have) so that probably helped.

Haven't tried Project Base yet, but I'll keep that in mind next time I want to play through Super Metroid.

There's also Ancient Chozo that's quite good (though I'd probably recommend Project Base to begin with).

It uses Project Base as its well, base, and has the same general layout as vanilla Super Metroid. It's a much tougher hack but not to the point of absurdity/not being fun. There's only one or two spots that had me go "Oh, that's what I was supposed to bomb." but other than that, fairly straight-forward (knowing the original SM map helps as finding stuff is more obscure).

There's one spot where the hatchling (not yet grown) helps you by eating debris just like the end of Metroid 2, which is something I've not seen in a SM hack before.

edit: Kind of like this:

Another game patched/converted/ported or whatever to SA-1 (eliminating pretty much all performance problems those games had without the chip). This time it's Contra III.

Terranigma

The game was localized/released outside Japan but never released in North America for some reason...Usually Europe was the one that got shafted, I think they didn't even get Chrono Trigger at the time.

Those were some good matches. It's good to see Itabashi back on Gief! That match vs Ibuki was wild.

He still has his 'bigail as a backup character for certain matchups. Kichipa-mu I think is a true 'Gief exclusif.

Razer Xian (Ibuki) VS AZ Kichipa-mu (Zangief) - Canada Cup 2019 Pools
ChrisCCH (Sakura) VS CYG BST Daigo (Guile) - Canada Cup 2019 Pools

Liking Justin's Poison. Seems the character fits his defensive playstyle very well.
