So basically, some shitbag keyboard warrior asshole pretty much destroyed byuu's online persona because... well, that's what shitbag keyboard warrior assholes do since they have no life and no way to think by themselves.

UGH, this is why I fucking hate the Internet, particularly since social networks became a thing (prior to that, you rarely -if ever- heard things like "doxing"). Yes, I'm feeling this kinda personal because the world shows no signs of improvement with every year that passes, and byuu's situation is another example of why humans are the best AND the worst that happened to the universe.

I'm not going to read the "hate thread" - in fact I think it's a really bad idea to link to it.

Very sad news. Thanks for the links. I just don't understand why the hell this happened. Byuu/Near gave so much of his time and spent a large amount of money from his own pocket to benefit the emulation community as a whole and this is how he is repaid. I don't blame him at all to be honest. I just hope he keeps healthy and is happy.

From what I understand his emulators were always free, how can people hate?

    What's the world coming to.

I am so pleased in the past when I first discovered bsnes I wrote to him to express my gratitude and donated as a thank you. I think donating to the creator/s of free software if you use it a lot and love it just makes perfect sense, it's not because you are a really good person it's just what should happen. How much would bsnes and Higan cost if you had to buy them?

I hope he knows that it was just the minority and a few bad apples that hated on him as I am sure most of the emulation community are so grateful and think the absolute world of him.

I love bsnes v115 !!! Thank you so much Byuu and if you read this please take very good care of yourself and I hope your life takes a wonderful new direction bringing you so much joy and happiness, you deserve it.

At least I like that the page footer (including the "ad") doesn't break even when the rest of the board can't go beyond a dead database.

It has been dying since Oracle bought them, I heard.

Now seriously, who hasn't ever visited a forum/message board which hasn't been down at least once due to some MySQL being dead? Most of the times when you get the luxury of some server leaking exception details, it's a crashed table of some sort because some process exited abnormally.
(Incidentally, another board on my bookmarks is also dead right now too due to MySQL, but this time all I get is a unlovely "Error loading character set utf8mb4" error instead of the usual crashed table shenanigans)

MariaDB replaced MySQL in basically every distribution anyway, I didn't think a single person would be using MySQL at this point given to Oracle it simply meant it being a burden on people from using the Oracle DB software. I'm surprised they even bother to keep the project going instead of just outright discontinuing it as soon as Larry Ellison got his grubby little hands on it.

The creator of MySQL/MariaDB literally forked it off as soon as he heard about the Sun buyout which included MySQL, since they owned the property at the time if I remember rightly. Might be wrong on the ownership part but yeah.

To add further insult to injury, 'My' is the name of one of his children, which probably leaves them now feeling like a 'bastard child' of MariaDB nowadays... I dunno, it just goes to show the horrible ethics of Oracle Corporation as a whole.

On a side note, why does the 'User is online' in the sidebar time out after an hour, yet the top bar times out users from being offline once they're idle for five minutes (the ABXD default)?

How is it Oracle's fault that a non-Oracle developer named a product after his kid?

PostgreSQL is the only database for me.

It's the only DB that has survived failures on Western Digital Bleugh and Suckgates gone wild :P

But at least we're still on the league of SQL (in)sanity, compared to webshit hipsters that hate relational databases with a passion, maybe because a MySQL or Jet-dressed bozo touched them in places that shall not be named when they were pre-iPhone kids. Seriously, if I'm forced to pick at gunpoint between a product by Orrible® and some NoSQL™ madness, I'll gladly suck Ellison's dick*, but only because the other option is literal inmediate death.

I just prefer painless transitions, so unless my bedtime studies in the next few minutes show that PostgreSQL would be as painless as MariaDB claims to be, I'm probably going with the latter.

Speaking of minutes, I just removed the 6 from "3600" so the sidebar should time out in five minutes now.

Edit: obviously I wouldn't migrate to PostgreSQL, I would have to rewrite half the scripts on this thing to use pg_ functions instead and I guarantee you I'll miss a bunch and otherwise break shit. No thanks!

On a related note I find it highly amusing that MongoDB's name not only means 'retard' in British English, but also 'cunt' in German.
Maybe they knew it was shit all along and were attempting to lowkey make a fool of every webshit hipster using it...

I don't speak German. Someone else passed that info onto me ages ago, maybe they misworded it.

    EDIT:
I found another bug, see this thread.

Also, is there a board changelog anywhere? I'd like to know what exactly was optimised for this version of ABXD, particularly in the way of known security fixes etc. - this is built from v2.2.2's source code I imagine? I was going to mess with that same version myself for the fun of it you see, heh.

This does not actually go there and I regret nothing.
