Next time kids want cash for season gifts, give them what they want. Like this dude did:
    https://nitter.nl/TwoClawsMedia/status/1210030954485633025

Now I want to do that, but with hyperinflationary money :D

    That's amazing.
My favorite is the Masters of the Universe box.

This is honestly a pretty original concept, not gonna lie. 2nd one is my favourite, reminds me of the PS3 Mega Drive compilation box art :P

It reminds me of the original Transformers boxes. Because that's what it's homaging, and I tore more than one of 'em open in my day. Though grid patterns were also a staple of Sega package design in the 80s and early 90s.

I did love the change of the original catchphrase from "more than meets the eye" to "exactly what it seems".

    ...

There's an interesting discussion to be had around the fact that it is specifically a Decepticon box. They DO say money is the root of all evil...

Yeah, the Master System and Mega Drive box art both had that grid-like backdrop on them ^-^ I'm not too well versed in pop culture from that time, probably because it's not high on my radar of things to be interested in (only really games, PCs, internet culture, anime and music, sorry!) so yeah...

They're (almost) all quite good replicas of vintage toy cards.

    Clockwise from top-left:
Star Wars, Transformers, X-Men, Masters of the Universe(popularly known simply as "He-Man"), and GI Joe.

    Center is a tiredly-modern Funko.

Now you know. And knowing is half the battle!

    ...

I'm suddenly sad he didn't do Ninja Turtles, for no good reason.

    G.. I.. JOEEEE!!! Lol
Anytime anyone mentions that line, I'm always compelled to finish it with their signature yell :D

    Related to ye olde cartoons:
The First Transformers Theme Was WILDLY Confusing
Not a music person myself, but I found the breakdown of it was pretty educational. Some comments remarked it was probably just an editor being pressed for time and had to fit the intro/outro to the time slot :P

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

    Intentional in this case.

Presumably Microsoft will keep him on a shorter leash than Red Hat, but the damage is done already.

Well, I can't tell if that's a sigh of relief, or a sign of evil. cue E1M8 music

Then again, Red Hat isn't exactly a piece of shit company, their employees have contributed a lot to Linux over the years (the excellent virt-manager front end for QEMU comes to mind), he just stained it the whole time he was there. Given his ideologies, he'll fit right in with the Embrace, Extend, Extinguish philosophy of Microshaft :D

(Yeah I know, I use Discord... if only I could avoid it somehow, though I doubt anyone in there would be particularly willing to move elsewhere, most of the people in there aren't particularly 'technical' if that makes sense)

Canada just had its "oh shit, we've got upgraded to CANTV-tier service!" moment today:
    https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/rogers-communications-services-down-thousands-users-downdetector-2022-07-08/

How does it feel to be a Venezuelan for a day, where not only your fancy bank cards and hipster buttcoins are completely useless because there is a oligopoly of shitty telcos ruling your country networks? And no, cash won't save you either if ATMs and bank branches are offline too. Maybe we should go back to bartering for buying groceries.

Yeah woke up this morning to a flood of messages on Teams. I'm on Shaw though so wasn't affected. But yeah a good number of colleagues were forced to tether to their phones for the day. Rogers still down at the moment and no eta on when service will be resuming. :/

I still have no idea what I'm talking about.

Speaking of 'North Americans getting fucked' I gotta love when the US whine about fuel prices when we're paying more than double what they have to pay in the first place. Or when a game gets unreleased in the US but does in Europe (or is delayed in the US) and they whine about it, I always just think to how many times we got screwed over back in the days.

On a related note, I now own a Model 1 Master System (PAL). :D

    Pepsi: BREATHTAKING Design Strategy (PDF)
    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32064324

Apparently this advertising nutcase charged PepsiCo $1M for that big load of BULLSHIT... that even failed to sell more sugary water to the masses! Instead, the 27-page design document obviously tells that someone was having some coke instead.

    "Golden Number"
    "Gravitational Pull of Pepsi"
    "Pepsi Universe"

    ...WTF.

But then, this is the same Peter Arnell that also nearly wiped out Tropicana from the market with his $35M pointless empty rebranding that basically told consumers that their beloved orange juice didn't existed anymore.

Fortunately this asswipe was fired from his own company not long after that, and he even recognizes his work is full of shit. Unfortunately the virus is still at large: for example a certain Colombian soda (Postobon) I drink from time to time just unveiled it's cellphone-esque minimalist label redesign, and IT FUCKING SUCKS - it went from a design that I could clearly identify from old '90s magazine ads (when noone imported that stuff to Venezuela) to... some bland webby minimalist crapola.

Dear advertising/marketing asswipes: my beverages are NOT iPhone crapps!!! KNOCK IT OFF!!!

    Rebranding gone very right!
How we renamed our Design Converter to Magical Ass

I'm well aware that Spanish for ass is "culo" (I should know it, being my mother tongue and all that), but didn't knew that French for ass is almost the same ("cul").

Too bad it's yet another overpriced Software-as-a-Service crap I'll never touch...

Soviet Venezuelan Meme Money, Class of '21*:

If you were a normal Venezuelan living in the land of "nobody wants bolivars anymore", here is how hard are to find those newfangled pieces of not-digital money:
    - 5, 10: Available since Launch Day (October 1st, 2021), easy to find unless you want then uncirculated.
    - 20: Limited availability since March 2022, hard to find in any condition.
    - 50, 100: Limited availability since June 2022, unobtanium (I just got the 100-note today!).

*Coins available separately, but nobody cares

Oh, wanna know how much money is there? Assume an average exchange rate (between official and black market) of USD 1 = VES 6:
    - VES 5 = ~$0.83
    - VES 10 = ~$1.66
    - VES 20 = ~$3.33
    - VES 50 = ~$8.33
    - VES 100 = ~$16.66
(For reference, minimum wage is VES 130 = ~$21.66)

For those tracking the count at home, this is the FOURTH time since 1989 since those denominations have been re-issued... the last 3 times after the trend of shedding zeroes began in 2007. At least we're no longer in freefall, right? RIGHT?!
