Screwtape When you say you downloaded the latest nightly, you specifically mean from the GitHub releases page, or from the links in the nightly builds section of the README?

Are you using Windows, macOS, or Linux? Since you mention "tarball" I assume Linux, but just to be sure...

higan does not appear to include any code that could set a file to 0 bytes, even by accident, and it definitely shouldn't be modifying program.rom in any way at all ever.
leathan So ive managed to figure out the following:

*) Both of the games i notice having this problem are using cx4.data.rom
*) It only sets program.rom to 0 bytes after i exit the application, if I leave it open it never breaks my game.
*) If I unmount the cartridge (not system) before I exit the application it doesnt resize program.rom (but ill forget)

My current workaround so i can exit the app and keep my games saved is make a tarbal of the game in question before i exit the application, then extract when i reopen. Which is really annoying and im probably doing something wrong in the first place, any help would be awesome.
leathan Well im not really sure what happened but using the same steps I thought I took in the above post it works...

    EDIT:

Now I am having a problem where when I close higan emulator the program.rom file for one of my games goes to 0 bytes, and i can no longer load the game or play it untill i delete it and reload it in higan :(?

    Help please
leathan I think I may be posting in the wrong place on the internet, if so, I'm sorry and feel free to delete me.

I was using an old version that told me to run mario card I needed dsp1b.program.rom and dsp1b.data.rom I read on these forums about what those files are and how to get them so I downloaded them and put them in the folder containing mario cart and it worked perfect. I then downloaded the newest version for some extra features i want like 2 controllers. and the same game says it wants upd7725.program.rom only. I tried folloiwng the help of this post http://helmet.kafuka.org/bboard/thread.php?pid=1567 but even when I rename the files i used to run mario cart and place them in the mario cart folder and also in the firmware folder i get the same error saying it wants upd7725.program.rom :(

    What am I missing?
