Today I finished playing through Famicom Detective Club II again. Both I+II are getting remade for Switch next year, so it was a great time to revisit the game.
I'm still really curious about FDC1, as it remains untranslated to this day. (though a translation started development last year)

Also, it's funny because this Super Famicom version is already a remake in itself, meaning II is getting remade twice.
If you boot up the game without any save files, you're greeted with the FDS boot screen and get to watch the old title screen of the game transition to the new version.

On the NES front there's
Metroid - Rogue Dawn

Only started it but it's amazingly impressive.

Short video Rogue Dawn

I just tried Rogue Dawn out, and I've got to say the execution of it is pretty great.
As far as ROM hacks go, it's so extensively changed from the original game to the point of really being its own thing. The new graphics, music, etc all have a nice mysterious atmosphere to them.

Haven't tried Project Base yet, but I'll keep that in mind next time I want to play through Super Metroid.

The tower is smaller than I thought at least; the folks over at Windows Central were able to get an estimated size by using the USB Type-A port, and it isn't a terrible size.

I've been playing through Hotel Dusk for DS recently. The game primarily takes place in a single location, and largely in one day too (December 28th, before a new decade; 1979)
Which yes, may or may not be related to why I'm playing it now.

It really gets all the mileage out of the console, too. You have a notebook you can take notes in as you're questioning people, to jot down anything you'd like to remember for later. One puzzle require you to open and close the DS like a book to solve it- Which also reminds me, you actually hold the DS sideways to play this game. It's a real shame the developer, Cing, went under in 2010.

https://www.voidtools.com - A desktop search program for Windows, searches universally and finds files very quickly.

ANSI Express - A freeware program for viewing ANSI art, like the BBS artscene kind. The site seems to have gone down within the past year or so, so I've linked an archived version. (This one's also for Windows)

PROTO·DOME - Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening "Mah Boi" OC ReMix

Great remix. Not gonna lie, I expected some kind of CD-i sample slipped in somewhere, but the actual song still did not disappoint.

In the meanwhile, Sega just won this round in the eternal Sega vs. Nintendo console wars that never really ended :D

And now we wait for Nintendo to reveal their second take on a Mario movie, a 3d animated one made by Illumination (Yes, the Minions studio) set for release in 2022. Which sounds like a futuristic year when you say it out loud, but anyways.

Since it's animated, I can picture it being a lot closer to the games this time. Though I could see Illumination trying to shove in a new character in there

Got to hand it to you diddy, you have pretty good taste in jazz music.
For some more easy listening, I've been liking this song my brother linked to me-
Oba, Oba - Astrud Gilberto

I wonder if there's going to be a population spike because of the quarantine.

No doubt, prepare for the Baby Boomers MK II in about 9 months or so

In Brazil, we finally had our first death in over 200 confirmed cases

I'm in a similar boat with my local area. Except instead of there being over 200 cases in the whole country, it's 200 cases in my state county (With the first death happening within the past few days)
Both our countries haven't been handling it well, that's for sure. But I'm staying totally indoors and keeping clean, so hopefully I don't get sick; seeing what's happening in Italy almost feels like a glance into our future.

I've got it preordered digitally, and am curious where exactly this new story direction will be going. From what I'm hearing-
Which could be interesting, but needs to be executed well. Definitely has a bit of that "modern Nomura" style to it; I can see how people would feel mislead by the "Remake" subtitle, too.

They're also incorporating characters from an obscure spinoff novel named "Final Fantasy VII: The Kids Are Alright".

Can we pour one out for the man who fan translated X, only for the official, unreleased version to show up on the internet the very same day?
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/5684/
Either way, it's interesting to compare differences between the two. In usual localization fashion, the official one (renamed to Lunar Chase) makes some minor changes to the names and setting, while the fan translation is naturally more like the original. So in a way, it still has its place for that reason.

At least the Hidden Palace folks managed to put a smile on Yuji Naka's face in the very first day of the year, judging from he liking the HP release tweet instead of calling the Sony Cops Nintendo Ninjas lawyers :)

That's actually really cool of him, but I guess he can publicly acknowledge these kind of things since he's no longer working at Sega.
I always wonder what these industry folks think about prototypes/leaks/fan works on a personal level, legal team aside.

I've been playing this fairly kickass Prime 2D fan-game by Team SCU. Seriously, they nailed the sprites and atmosphere of this thing! (And I love their version of Samus' design)
Check it out here, if you haven't already.

It isn't really an "if" but a "when" when it comes to Nintendo, but hopefully it slides under the radar long enough for them to get some nice progress done on it.
Usually it's the widespread news coverage that kills these games, when Nintendo can't ignore it any longer (Which is why developing these hobby projects in secret is the best way to go)

That's pretty sweet. I seem to remember FireBrandX making a super-accurate CGI SNES controller, down to that specific grain the plastic has... great attention to detail in his 3D work.
