Hey y'all
just read about Byuu's board closing. Lurked on the forum some though not a whole lot in the last few months, I think I registered at one point on one of the previous Byuu boards, 2012-13 probably. pretty sure I even posted on the zsnes board more than a decade ago.I was around 14 at the time so, that's been over 10 years.Regardless it was great to follow Byuu's progress for so long.

Also is there a specific size the avatar image needs to be in order to show up?I linked one from imgur but it doesn't show I think it's 200x188 .png format. No big deal either way

Feature request: Friends/foes list.

To me the useful one would be the foes list, as there are always certain members whose posts became... undesirable to deal with, so instead of risking flamewars and potential bans, it's best to ignore whatever they have to say and move on.

I second tomman.Would rather just avoid some of the most toxic posters and not have to deal with their antics/trolling if possible.

Democrats win U.S. House, GOP retain Senate

wish I was more familiar with the U.S system and what that means for the near future but hopefully it's bad news for the GOP and the 2020 election.

edited to add:
I thought about making a new thread initially, but you're right it's better this way. Thanks for splitting the thread.

I just hope Canada is not getting a Trump 2.0 next, given that we tend to mirror U.S politics and seeing how the last few provincial elections went...

I actually was made aware of this from this vid more than a year ago I think.Does a decent job explaining in layman's terms what's actually going on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo0jm1PPRuo

Concretely, you're not going to weigh more or less in kilos, not in any significant ways at least

That video gives me a new appreciation of my hatred of maths. None of what he said explained anything in an easily understood way.

My maths are pretty bad and I don't think that was the hard part..The physics otoh...

@Nicolas Steel
In the simplest terms: the value of the kilogram is no longer dependent on a single physical object (i.e. the IPK), but rather on a defined mathematical concept.

Basically.

Off topic, TIL I'm a ""Sun Sneezer". Or rather I should say: Today I learned that most people are not. I simply thought everyone had that same reaction.

Although for me it's not quite as strong as what he described in the video: I don't get the sneeze reflex just from going from dark to light. I must have an already itchy nose, otherwise, nothing happens. Also I don't have to look directly at a bright light, just be exposed to light is enough (looking directly at the sun like he seem to be doing in the video is probably a bad idea).

So maybe amongst people who have the gene some have it expressed more than others? I don't know.

AS far as my stance of immigration? We have laws for a reason. We're a society. Societies have laws. Laws have to be enforced to maintain the society, or society collapses into chaos and anarchy. I would prefer to live in a society that is a society, not an anarchic maelstrom.

weirdly enough no country with a relative high amount of immigration seem to have descended into an anarchic maelstrom. And generally speaking, I also find it strange that every time there's concerns about immigration levels it always seem to be because of black or muslim or brown immigration.Anyway, western countries need immigration if they want to avoid going the way of the dodo (or *coughJapancough*).It's just the way it is.

The problem of global warming is the science around it is lackluster [...] Plus add into the fact none of the science has accounted for solar minimum and maximums as well as global weather historical trends of warming and cooling

Mmmh...

As far as mocking global warming denial, I prefer this one.

Well I disagree. I think countries should teach their own history, including and especially the darker parts of it. As far as I read, Japanese war crimes, like the rape of Nanking or unit 731's experiments and killings, are not really taught in Japanese schools like Germany teaches its own ww2 crimes extensively. To say, 'well I wasn't born,it's got nothing to do with me those were just my ancestors' is a way to weasel oneself out of the reality of history as the descendants of victims are still affected even today.

If nothing else, politically speaking, things like the Nanking Massacre denial is not doing any good for Sino-Japanese relations.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/12/australia-passes-new-law-to-thwart-strong-encryption/

On Thursday, the Australian parliament approved a measure that critics say will weaken encryption in favor of law enforcement and the demands of government.
The new law, which has been pushed for since at least 2017, requires that companies provide a way to get at encrypted communications and data via a warrant process. It also imposes fines of up to A$10 million for companies that do not comply and A$50,000 for individuals who do not comply. In short, the law thwarts (or at least tries to thwart) strong encryption.

Companies who receive one of these warrants have the option of either complying with the government or waiting for a court order. However, by default, the orders are secret, so companies would not be able to tell the public that they had received one.

Oh and:
Apple previously decried Australian efforts: "Encryption is simply math."

Good on Australia for showing math who's boss.

Your real wallet or a digital wallet? If the latter, why? It's not like it's any cheaper than paying by Credit Card.

I believe he is also including stuff in the trading market, which only accept steam wallet transactions.

yea,was referring to my steam wallet not wallet the physical object lol (which I thought should have been obvious given the context but,you know...). Also, steam doesn't have my CC anyway, using pre-paid cards instead that you can buy in stores.

Funny story, Steam's credit payment system doesn't work in Latin America, or at least it doesn't for national cards only, so instead, all credit card transactions are made through a third party service, whose one is impossible to save your details, making you having to enter your information every single time you do a purchase. :P

Yeah, you just can't win any battle xp

That sucks. From what I read steam wallet codes and/or gift cards should be nearly region free or at least something bought from a US seller should work in south America countries so maybe that could be another option.
