I tried the browser version, but IMO the ship/car clips a bit too much into the track when you drive up ramps in order to jump over an abyss, with the result that discount Lakitu heaves you back onto the track.

Unfortunately, Windows users cannot make use of these example llamafiles because Windows has a maximum executable file size of 4GB, and all of these examples exceed that size. (The LLaVA llamafile works on Windows because it is 30MB shy of the size limit.)

TVs are cheaper, but they're also impossible to find in any size under 32", and very difficult to get without the Android pest

Back in 2018 I got myself a Sharp Aquos LC-48CFE4042E, specifically because it wasn't a 'smart' TV.
(But even if a TV lacks Google's version of Android it could be a worse OS...)

EDIT: Speaking of sizes, my PC is on a 31.5" display. And while I want to upgrade in the future to an OLED (or better) screen, going down from that size wouldn't fill me with joy. You get very used to it.

Still playing HoloCure (free), trying to finish all 7 stages with all the girls. Down to the last 4 (Anya, Kobo, Kaela, Zeta)...

Some games that I have installed but not played yet:
- Hotline Miami
- Hotline Miami 2
- Portal: Revolution (free)
- Sonic Mania

Steam wishlist:
- Holo X Break (free): same dev as HoloCure, same fandom, release date 2024-03-29
- Horizon Forbidden West, release date 2024-03-21
- Outer Wilds, which is 40% cheaper until 2024-03-21... but by the time I get to it there may already be another sale...
_ _ _

Then there's a new book of the Ascendance of a Bookworm series that comes out tomorrow...

The audio is lameass Realsuck HDA, so abandon all hopes of great audio quality.

After getting annoyed by crappy (un-)shielded audio cables for most of my life around computers, a few years ago I got myself an USB headset (Sharkoon Skiller SGH30). No more noise! The only thing I had to modify was putting black tape over the RGB illumination.

Unfortunately the faux leather starts flaking off now...

There's not much chance of picking up interference if the 'soundcard' is directly in the ear cup.

"Flare Nuinui Quest" is a Hololive fangame by Sulpx, currently still available as a free download here: https://sulpx.itch.io/nuinui-quest (139 MiB)

An updated version is releasing soon on Steam under the Holo Indie fangame agreement, and the free version will then be unavailable.

I got Sonic Mania back in (checks emails) September 2023 when it was just 5 Euros, but it's been sitting in my Steam library until now.

Also have Celeste, but I think it's a bit too hard for me. Maybe with a better controller... my Gamesir is a few years old.

Also have Hotline Miami and the sequel to look forward to.

Just finished Outer Wilds.

Gonna play the DLC next...

[...]
But I agree that someone should fork off VBox (and not just sent to the Apache House of Unloved Orrible FOSS Projects, where software comes to die) for the good of the project, as its future under Oracle is anything but brilliant. [...] It would be a shame to see VBox die, as that's by far the most user-friendly solution out there - VMWare left their desktop solutions to rot, and QEMU/libvirt are not exactly for the faint of heart - VirtualBox is the "just works™" solution for those of us who still have to virtualize some XP junk every now and then, or for toying with multiple OS on the desktop (VMWare Player used to be great in the past, as long as you only had the need to have a SINGLE VM per host, unless you were willing to fork some good dough for a Workstation license)

The situation seems to be quite different now. VMware Workstation is now free to use for private and commercial use. They've been bought by Broadcom, which might be behind that move, and it seems that all support has been cut off - not that you'd need it when there's e.g. the VMware subreddit. The website is one of the most horrible ones I've ever seen (at some point I even tried registering, with the result of finding out that you basically can't do anything with a GMail email address - they expect commercial customers), but thankfully you can download it here very easily.

Btw. I read somewhere on reddit (can't find it right now) that the newest versions might have some problem with DirectX, and to use 17.5.2-23775571 instead.

The interface is roughly the same as VirtualBox, and they also have their equivalent of VirtualBox Guest Additions. You can even use physical disks instead of creating virtual ones. Just be extra thorough when configuring a machine, some things are a bit hidden, e.g. the "Virtual Machine Settings" window has two tabs, "Hardware" and "Options". You might also need to edit the network settings in "menu | Edit | Virtual Network Editor".

VMware uses .vmdk disk images, which can also be used by VirtualBox, but VMware can't use VirtualBox's native disk format. I solved that by simply creating another .vmdk disk in VBox with the same size, and using dd in a Ubuntu Live-CD session to copy the data from one drive to the other.

The difference in performance between VirtualBox and VMware was quite a surprise for me:

(via running PassMark's PerformanceTest)

It's basically almost as fast as native.
