That $250 includes TV and phone service. It would probably be about $160 with Spectrum.
Ah in that case $160 sounds a lot more reasonable. $250 is still a huge rip off!

Interesting to see vogonsdrivers has most of the Windows 9x Nvidia drivers. Under Windows 9x most games would require very specific video drivers in order to work correctly otherwise you'd run in to graphical bugs. Thankfully this phenomena significantly diminished with Windows XP.

160 Hz [...] is pretty much as good [...] as you will ever get, anything beyond that is pointless for a TV- or computer monitor

240

For a few years now TV's have been running at 240Hz refresh rate iirc (internal motion interpolation) and yes, there are 240Hz TN LCD displays for computers (this year saw refresh of the technology with better response times), a laptop with a 300Hz TN display and 240Hz IPS displays will be available either by the end of this year or delayed to next year (with 2 companies manufacturing the panels this time around).

You should seriously give Mario Kart Wii a shot, with an official Nintendo brand steering wheel accessory if you van find one (they were being sold for $5 a few years ago). It's got the perfect turning circle for the games motion controls... you can of course choose to not use motion controls.

v71 doesn't utilize my custom userChrome.css and userContent.css files correctly. Seemingly the only thing that is working in the files is the addition of a new toolbar below the Bookmarks... but the Tab Bar isn't moved to there and various stylistic changes to the UI aren't being applied.

toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is set to True in the degraded about:config UI (it's been converted to HTML, and stripped of a lot of functionality for no reason).

"Smart" TV doesn't navigate channels correctly... https://old.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/e6bkml/what_is_the_best_method_for_reporting_a_software/

Also had some technical problems with the TV:

When I first bought my Sony KD 8500G 55" TV (Australia) during last Black Friday we had severe nasty issues within 2 days where the TV would suddenly display garbage with a maximum volume squeal of corrupted audio from the speakers for several seconds before the TV automatically rebooted. Very alarming, very startling, painful to the ears, a punch to the senses, extremely uncomfortable when it happens.

After enjoying that experience multiple times in a single day I took it back to the place of purchase and they swapped it over for another of the same make & model. Within 10 minutes of completing the Firmware Update a less severe version of the same symptom occurred!

This time I did some googling and found not one, not 2 but at least 5 articles on the Sony Australia and Sony UK support websites that all suggested that performing Firmware updates can cause numerous issues (why are you not Quality Assuring your firmware updates!?) and that you should perform a Forced Factory Reset followed by a Factory Reset to maaaybe resolve the issues.

So erase all your hard work setting up your TV settings for every Input Source, channels, favourites, apps... should you ever decide to install a Firmware Update. That's a pretty ingenious way to discourage people from performing firmware updates!

So far, our replacement TV is working after performing the Factory Resets but we aren't yet satisfied that it won't suffer the same issues. There has been at least one moment where I was in an App screen and the entire display flickered solid red for 1 frame.

In my case however, my place of Purchase offers a 5 year warranty with them for an additional small fee so... unless they go out of business like BFGTech did I should be okay to suffer through the problems I guess?

Maybe lol. I feel like the HDD issues were being caused by my over-volting of the hardware components for my overclock. I must have set them slightly too high because it has stopped since I lowered them a smidge. In any case I'm finally ditching the 10 year old CPU & Motherboard and am in the process of acquiring a ASUS ROG VIII Hero /w Wi-Fi motherboard and AMD Ryzen 3700X CPU, I already have the motherboard and have submitted a form to Noctua for a free AM4 compatibility kit so that I can hopefully keep using my Noctua DH14 cooler that I bought in 2013.

No messing with voltages or removing of the overclock fully fixes the stability issues which is why I've left the overclock in operation for a year or so.

So the weird ass issues should theoretically stop being an issue, on the other hand they'll more likely be replaced with all new weird ass issues.

Since you've played both games, how hard is it to stand still while facing diagonally in the Overhead View sections? Ages ago I tried the demo of the first game on the Switch and I couldn't figure out a way to easily stand still facing diagonally which made those sections more frustrating than they had any right to be (I was playing with 2 Joycons)

you get a bit more thermal headroom, and well, is 4 more threads worth 200 cdn dollars?(250vs450 cdn)

In the US ATM it’s 3600 for 195 USD and 3700x for 300 USD, so the price ratio is much better. If it’s like that in AUD I think franpa’s choice is probably ideal.

$375 - 3600X
$512 - 3700X

Games will be moving to making good use of 8 core Ryzen CPU's not long after the PS5 and Xbox Two are released next year, so getting a 6 Core CPU would be shooting yourself in the foot imo.

Nothing specifically, just gaming in general and not falling too far behind in basic technology (PCI-E, SATA, NVMe & USB). The CPU has been holding me back a fair bit for the last 4~ years, many games that should easily hit 60FPS with a Geforce 1070Ti don't. My most recent upgrade from a Geforce 760 to a Geforce 1070Ti has made it rather obvious that the CPU is holding me back as the performance uplift was pretty small in a lot of demanding games (previous GPU upgrades all resulted in notable performance uplifts).

The end of last year was the first time I ever got an enthusiast tier graphics card (that didn't suck ass, looking at you Single Slot 8800GT) and this year will be the first time I've ever gotten an enthusiast tier CPU (would you consider a bottom of the range Intel i7 920 CPU enthusiast?).

I still can't play The Witcher 3 at a satisfactory FPS & visual fidelity (at 1920x1080) for example, and that came out in 2015!

thats right, you are running a first gen i7. the Ryzen 3 3200 is twice as fast...

In IPC? Yeah maybe, then you have all the new instruction sets to further bolster performance improvements in various programs.

Yeah I'm going with G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz RAM, its timings are specifically optimized for the AMD Ryzen platform. I also remembered another reason why I went with the 3700X, all 8 CPU Cores are in a single CCX so there's no inter-CCX Infinity Fabric shenanigans (other than when communicating with RAM?).

Edit: I removed my overclock and my old CPU is struggling very, very hard at running Firefox well. Discord within Firefox is laggy, twitch embeds are laggy, Diablo 3 is laggy when a lot is going on xD

That’s partly down to Diablo 3’s poor frame pacing. G-sync or freesync will allow it to catch up and stay smooth when Diablo stupidly passes over the vblank interrupt in its timing loop.

Yeah I noticed the difference G-Sync made for the game back when I briefly had such a display. I don't want to deal with any performance issues that can arise when a game/program traverses multiple CCX's which will only become more likely as time continues, and the 3700X (is there a 3700?) is the lowest end AMD CPU that meets the criteria. Iirc Microsoft still doesn't have a good CPU Scheduler for handling AMD's CCX design, they've been shoehorning things in to the existing system rather than coming up with something like what various Linux distros apparently use.

a CCX is 4 cores.

Huh, my previous googling attempts only found a wccftech article which indicated it was a single 8 cores for the 8 core CPU's. This time I included the word "arrangement" in my search and got a twitter result confirming it is 4 cores per CCX for the 8 core variants.

Ah well, so I've effectively got 2 really powerful 4 Core CPU's.

Really annoying that there's no reliable indication of installation progress when installing a PS4 game from disc. There's a progress bar on the games icon with a disc symbol to the right of it but even when that bar fills up and disappears it's still possible the game is being installed from disc. I assume that bar indicates whether or not you can reach a games title screen yet because that seems to be the case with Horizon Zero Dawn (loading my save file takes me to a loading screen and when that completes I'm taken to a loading screen with a 20~ minute timer on it).

So the only indication of setup being completed is when the disc spins down.

I just got around to installing my PS4 SSD in to my new PS4 Pro... which required formatting the disk and reinstalling everything because the contents of the drive are encrypted/keyed to the console you install the O/S on.

Also, does anybody else's PS4 Pro not sit flat? Mine rocks diagonally by a couple millimeters.

Something I found disappointing about Horizon: Zero Dawn. The very pretty intro only plays the first time you open the game, every subsequent time you open the game it goes directly to the Main Menu (after the company logos). New Game+ skips even more early content too.

Also I've completed the base game and DLC and found the game to be an excellent experience albeit the pricing of gear in the game is way too low on Normal difficulty making it way too easy to become overpowered.
