As another proof that Square Enix hates you, dear gamer, Kingdom Hearts games will come to the Switch... streaming only.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-kingdom-hearts-games-are-headed-to-the-nintendo-switch-through-cloud-streaming.600860/
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2021-10-06/kingdom-hearts-games-head-to-switch-as-cloud-streaming-releases/.178187

Because in this New Normal™, we don't port OLD PlayStation games (much less bloaty games made on bloaty PC-first engines) to underpowered hardware anymore - we just sell the rights to stream them to poor suckers... on a Nintendo Switch, whose biggest selling point is "can work in places without Internet, like trains, airplanes, and cars".

Nope, it has been 64-bit for quite a while.

If you want a 32-bit version, you'll have to build it yourself, or find a 3rd-party build (if there are people out there still doing those, outside of bsnes/higan forks).

Or, consider upgrading to a 64-bit OS, if possible. Any special reason of why you need a 32-bit build?

FWIW that Atom N2600 is a 64-bit CPU, so while performance could be severely degraded with Higan, it should be able to run a 64-bit OS (firmware/BIOS restrictions notwithstanding)

In any case, you don't really want to use Higan there, except maybe for testing. Try bsnes or snes9x there instead, and seriously consider upgrading to a 64-bit OS there - it's time!

Someone with way too much free time in his/her/its hands decompiled Space Cadet Pinball (and its full version, Full Tilt Pinball), and you can now play it on many things not running Windows!

I never expected to play this Win95-builtin on Linux over 20 years later of its initial release, but... I'm not complaining~~~

Why people do still buy HP!?

Ah, wait, it is Canon!?!??!

Well well well.... WELCOME TO THE SHITLIST, CANON!

Being Japanese these days no longer means "total customer satisfaction", I guess... Oh, and my next printer will be a dot matrix printer - no leaky ink, no dusty toner, no moronic lockout chips, and print quality is acceptable for my yearly nastygrams to the bank. As a bonus, you don't really need drivers if all you need is text.

APPLE!!!

So Apple came with their latest designer-thin laptops, whose features are to be cloned by the rest of non-Apple OEMs, making computers even more terrible.

The good parts:
- Improved M1 CPUs (M1 Pro, M1 Max)
- Up to 64GB RAM.
- GPU that supposedly rivals gaming-grade mobile nVidias in performance - quite the bold claim for a company whose only involvement in gaming is on cellphones!
- The return of HDMI ports and SD card slots. ("slots? ports?! Who need those!? I've never used a slot/port, therefore nobody needs those!")
- The touchbar is gone, bringing back sanity to Apple keyboards.

The shitty parts:
- NOTCHED displays. On a frickin' LAPTOP. What the fuck, Apple. No, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK!? Who asked for this!? Bezels are there for a reason!!! Now wait for notched computer displays fucking everywhere, for no good reason other than APPLE DID IT!!!
- Still thin because it gotta be theeeeeeeeen.

In the meanwhile, the sperm banks of California are reporting lifetime records today on sperm donations - in fact they're overwhelmed due to the insane amounts coming from Apple fanboys around Silicon Valley.

While we wait for SeaMonkey 2.53.10 (beta coming this week, final coming in "late October"), it seems we're navigator non grata for the Google Docs team, as we started getting redirected to a "Use Chrome Update your browser" lockout page.

The solution? Add a user agent override for Google domains, claiming to be vanilla Firefox. Oh wait, you already have one for unfuck the search pages? Well, bump your browser version on it then - for Docs, you will want at least FF68. Don't forget that there are two version tokens you have to update:

general.useragent.override.google.com = Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

Yes, it will STILL complain that you aren't using Chrome your Firefox version is unsupported, but at least it will let you read documents again. Even better, tell people to stop using Google products! Oh wait, you're a minority, go pound sand instead because convenience can't be beaten, at the expense of freedom and interoperability :/

FUCK GOOGLE!

Hopefully someone will stop with the rampant bikeshedding spread around the entire Linux ecosystem. But nope, that's too communist, the sacred right to have 15 broken options for everything must be upheld!

Let's hope that the UI/UX braindamage doesn't finish killing the desktop environments across all OS, and that the insane cellphone infatuation everywhere dies. But I'm not holding my breath. Between the JavaScript Everywhere™ morons, the "let's rewrite coreutils and GNOME in the hipster-language-of-the-week from our Macs" nutcases, and the Troo UNIX® Way™ graybeard sysadmins that want desperately to go back to the '70s to feel themselves young again, expect more ranting from myself in the future.

Also: Bluetooth has always been a very shitty tech, only good for cursing and useless battery draining... at least to me.

Status of the Buster->Bullseye update: the Asus is still waiting, I'm in no hurry.

Seagate Creates an NVME Hard Disk Drive

So, Suckgate finally brought the worst parts of storage (spinny rust, high latency, subpar random I/O performance, shingles, butter platters, self-destroying drives) to a interface designed mainly for GOTTA GO FAST solid storage devices.

WHY.

But then, they aren't the first that tried to shoehorn a native PCIe interface into a good ol' HDD: remember SATA Express? No? Can't blame you, as that interface went nowhere, but at least Western Digital toyed with the idea of native PCIe HDDs a few years ago...

In any case: friends don't let friends buy Suckgate, backup yo' shit, blah blah blah...

Just for funsies, I tried Bluetooth audio from my Alcatel to my Debian box:

- Pair devices
- Turn on Bluetooth on phone
- Open Blueman (right click on the Bluetooth logo on systray->Devices)
- Right-click your phone, select "Audio source"
- Play some audio on your phone: it now plays on your PC!
- Optional: pavucontrol (Pulse's GUI volume control applet) lets switch profiles between HSP and A2DP (connection defaults to A2DP), if needed.

Stuff I need to test:
- How do you init the audio connection from Android 7? (like: tell my phone that I want to send audio to my PC, instead of telling my PC that I want to get audio from my phone)
- Record audio

There seems to be a catch: I can't get audio from the phone's FM radio - it will just go silent. Yay Qualcomm Alcatel TCL :/

SM 2.53.10 shipped last week, now defaulting to a FF68 user agent, to please Google because they are horrible people machines.

Lately, most of the breakage I've seen from websites on SM are related to:
1) JS regex stuff (mainly named capture groups and emoji crap)
2) Misuse of user agent sniffing (that's with YOU, Alphabet!)
3) Our good ol' friend, Google WebComponents™
4) CSS Chromeisms
...in that exact order.

The JS regex stuff is fixable, but requires to backport more JS stuff from Firefox, which also means the inevitable break of many old addons, as the legacy crud really gets in the way. For example, .10 broke my (already converted) version of Redirector, requiring me to modify a JS try...catch statement, as conditional catch statements are no longer supported (in fact, they never became a part of ECMAScript, and only survived all these years as a Mozilla-proprietary extension... that finally got the boot a couple years ago, and SM finally caught up with the times).

In other news... TOBIN!!!
Don't piss me off, dude... especially NOT TODAY!
EDIT: Oh god, Tobin-senpai noticed me I'm on the radar. Ewwww..

My trusty broken RAZR2 needs to rest in pieces peace (plus I need that USB port back, and can't stand running abandoned Sovietware on XP just for SMS, because due to the death of Wammu, there is no way to pull contacts and call logs from classic Motorola phones anymore).

So, after carefully reviewing my options in the local market... I ended buying a KaiOS phone, more precisely, the Blu Zoey Smart (Z230L), for $35 (no matter if you buy in 'murica or in Soviet Venezuela, it costs $35 everywhere!). Fuck me now.

The few reviews I could find basically say "DON'T BUY, this phone is the worst PoS ever, and 256MB is too little, even for KaiOS!!!". And until very recently, it wasn't hackable. But it is now, so expect more ranting because I'm a masochist.

At least it has WiFi, FM radio, dual SIM slots, AND the correct 3G frequency bands for Movistar and Movilnet (fuck Digitel and its special snowflake Eurobands). And... preloaded Fuckbook Meth apps. That's the first target on my kill list.

Thankfully, full firmware is available, and Spreadasstrum Unicrud phones are on the "hardly brickable" league.

Damn, what I have just done!? I could have spent those $35 in food plenty of replacement banknotes for my collection...

Apparently the Meth crapps are the only ones uninstallable by default on the stock Zoey Smart ROM. Nice.

Sadly you need to root for deGoogling, and also, the Twatter crapp :/

Will test more stuff before letting this thing smell the WiFis (a dumbphone with WiFi?! Alien space tech!!!)

OH FUCK I ALREADY HATE THIS PHONE MY BLOOD IS BOILING GAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

"SLOW" and "unpredictable" is the name of the game here. The web browser (aka embedded Gecko) often refuses to load pages without any explanation. Had to reboot the phone just to launch the Developer menu through the Bananahackers exploit. Also, had to toggle debugging mode a few times until ADB recognized the phone. Yay Mozilla Spreadasstrum Unicrud Blu.

Also, who decided to bind CLR/BACK on this phone to END!?!?!?!?! This breaks YEARS of muscle memory, not to miss also that the right softkey is mostly useless on this phone, and going back to the home screen is a frustrating exercise of endless END clicking.

Now with ADB recognizing my phone, I need a WebIDE-enabled browser or tool to start the path to jailbreak. My options:
- Firefox <=59... eugh... (SeaMonkey 2.49.5 has WebIDE, but it isn't clear how broken is it, plus juggling with profiles is something I want to avoid at all costs)
- Pale Moon <=28.6.1. Not happening, sorry.
- This CLI tool that requires XULRunner... a nearly 400MB download from Mozilla. YUCK!
- This other CLI tool that requires Node Dot Fucking JS. Do you want to get me REALLY pissed off?!?! No, you don't want.

...so XULRunner it is, then.

Houston, we've got root~!

Ended using old Firefox because my FF profiles are disposable.

1) Download the Wallace Toolkit for Spreadtrum, then extract it somewhere
2) adb forward tcp:6000 localfilesystem:/data/local/debugger-socket
3) Open WebIDE. It will complain that it can't download ADB helper. You don't need it if you performed previous step - just select "Remote Runtime", and hit Enter.
4) Open Packaged Application -> select the directory where you unpacked Wallace's application.zip
5) PLAY! You should see "ROOT ME" on your phone display.
6) Press Enter on your phone. You should see "WAIT", then... some scary face with a scarier Spreadasstrum logo.
7) adb shell => you're root. Brick your phone~!

Successfully degoogled this junk phone, except for Maps... which can't even find where I am because the GPS on this thing is completely useless, even worse than the "sometimes you're here, and sometimes you're in Thailand" A-GPS on my now-defunct RAZR. Oh, and it lost its menu icon for no good reason at all...

Veredict: no wonder why KaiOS is a failure: when you even fail to achieve basic phone functions (like non-braindamaged keyboard shortcuts, or doing ANYTHING AT ALL without getting stuck forever), noone will buy your shit. Well, nobody except masochists like me.

OK, so this whole KaiOS jailbreak/rooting stuff is confusing, because just like the KaiOS market, the documentation is scattered in fragments here and there. Even the Bananahackers site is a mess, with duplicate/misleading uncurated information! But I think I've caught the gist of it:

- OmniSD is an glorified app installer - it allows you to sideload apps from your SD card, without the need for WebIDE or a PC. IT DOES NOT ROOT YOUR PHONE!

- Wallace Toolbox comes in a few flavors, but for Spreadtrum phones like the Zoey Smart, you need two pieces:
1) The actual Wallace Toolbox from here, which allows to permanently enable the Developer menu without the need of a privileged reset (which will erase all your data), or having to visit a webpage from the (very fragile) browser "app" to enable/disable debugging! On the Zoey Smart YOU CAN'T USE THIS ONE FOR ROOT! (it doesn't work)
2) A specific fork for Spreadtrum devices (buried somewhere at the Bananhackers website), which doesn't have the fancy menu, but it actually allows to TEMPORARILY ROOT (that is, you lose root at the next reboot) the bloody thing. You'll want to launch this one every time you need to enable root until the next reboot.
So yeah... you want both.

Even then, the amount of fun you can have is kinda limited. There is really not much to debloat here:
- Google apps, including Assistant... that you will want to remove anyway because it doesn't even work anymore as Google crippled it after basically leaving KaiOS.
- Twitter, which for some reason is not uninstallable on the stock ROM.
- FakebookMeth webcrapps that you don't want to use anyway due to subpar UX and being mostly abandoned because this phone runs KaiOS 2.5 (which is already considered legacy). But amazingly you ARE allowed to uninstall those, no need to root!
- A News app that only really works if you live in USA, India, or select parts of Asia. Which is really weird, considering that Blu targets Latam, not EMEA markets.
- A stupid Horoscope crapp.
- The Weather crapp, which loves to hang for no good reason at all, outside of being useless webshit.
- KaiOS Pay... once I figure out how to uninstall hidden apps!

As for what I think about KaiOS and the Blu Zoey Smart?

Short version: STAY THE HELL AWAY. Buy a refurbished old Nokia, they still make clone batteries for those, and be happy.

Long version: KaiOS is by far the WORST cellphone platform I've tried, EVER. This is a platform for dumbphones pretending to be smartphones, but it does nothing right! Bloaty, slow, buggy, half-baked, half-assed, "stateless", with a core featureset MUCH worse than anything Motorola/Nokia were releasing in the golden S40/RAZR era, 15 years ago! Man, my RAZRs, with puny single-core 200MHz ARM9 CPUs with 64MB RAM were far more responsibe, customizable, and useable than this garbage. And then, Blu came and took a bloaty platform which performed poorly on its 512MB RAM baseline... and shoehorned it on HALF the RAM - the result? Misery.

Here's what's wrong with the $35 Zoey Smart, aside of, well, KaiOS:
- 256MB RAM/512MB ROM. WTF BLU!!??!?!?!?!?
- The GPS on this thing is either broken, or has marginal reception. No app is able to find out my location because this thing is not able to get a GPS fix - handy for paranoid nutters!
- The FM radio has an internal antenna. Handy if you just need a table radio for emergencies, except when you're dealing with stations with marginal reception, where a twist of your headphones cable can make the difference on any other phone with FM radio!
- The cameras are unusable garbage. Seriously, they still make VGA cameras in 2020, when this thing was made. WHY!?
- SIM1 slot is ridiculously tight. You don't want to use micro/nanoSIM cards on their respective adapters on this slot, unless you want to risk damaging the cards, the slot, the phone, or your life. (Fortunately my Movistar SIM is one of their early 3G MiniSIMs, so no cuts or adapters at all!)
- Oh man, the web browser (aka web browser within a web browser). It often refuses to load websites without any reason at all (which made enabling the Developer menu a pain), requiring to powercycle the phone. And even when you convince it to actually OPEN websites, it will gladly refuse to continue because the web is HTTPS nowadays, and this thing ships with an obsolete root cert database. Try opening Wikipedia: it will not continue because the issuer cert expired. Entering URLs on this phone is also a chore, and it's very slow to connect (there isn't even a "Loading..." animation of any kind. WTF, even 2004-vintage Openwave got this right!). Forget that this phone has a web browser, please.

If the plan is to make dumbphones look as miserable as possible just to force people to buy smartphones, KaiOS and Blu fucking aced it. And sadly, the remaining platforms for dumbphones in the market (basically Mistaketek/Unicrud proprietary junk) are even worse. So yeah, better get a S40 Nokia, and only because BL-4C/5C clones still in production by countless Chinazi sweatshops!

DON'T BUY THIS PHONE, or anything with KaiOS. Unless you're a masochist, like me. Even if you can root it, there is not that much fun you can have with it, the app ecosystem is crap (even J2ME is far superior to this webshit vomit). Hope it doesn't crap its pants at basic PHONE stuff, like calls (those seem to work fine?), or texts (it receives them, haven't tried sending those). Spend your $35 in drugs, prostitutes, alcohol, ammo, or anything but KaiOS!

Just placed a phone call with the Zoey Smart.

UGH.

Voice quality is HORRIBLE, even considering the state of our mobile networks. The audio is too muffled, nearly unintelligible on the earpiece. HOW DO YOU EVEN FUCK UP THAT BADLY SUCH A BASIC FEATURE!??!?!?!?!?!

I've used cheaper Chinesium 2G junk with far better audio quality than this thing. Ironically, the loudspeaker sounds much better :/
