Post Desmume X432R with option to increase internal resolution
Someone created modified version of Desmume with option to increase internal resolution check this out:
X86 Binary: http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... 26num%3D30
X64 Binary: http://gbatemp.net/threads/hi-resolutio ... on.364549/

DS graphics look like garbage at native but look great at higher resolution.

Gee, that really does make a huge difference.

Maybe my memory deceives me, or it could be due to the smaller screen, but I don't remember DS games looking that bad on an actual DS.

Problem is DS ultra low resolution games werent meant to be played on modern high resolution screens.

Now if they can work in xBR for 2d filtering I'll be sold. In the one video it seems like it's there, but it's never shown in combo with the OpenGL high-res renderer.

Desmume already has xBRZ and OSX version has multi-pass shaders while Windows version is inferior and has fixed graphics pipeline.

They have xBR for texture scaling?

Yes, but it can't be used at the same time as the high-resoultion output. The View > Magnification Filter settings are all greyed out.

But OSX version has multi-pass shaders and filters. Desmume X432R is fork of Windows version but if Windows version will get flexible pipeline and shaders it should be possible to increase resolution and use xBRZ with combination with shaders at the same time.

Everyone should register at Desmume forums and Sourceforge and try to ask Zeromus to merge this version into trunk maybe if many people will ask for it he will do this.It would be freakin waste if Desmume devs refuse to merge it. And while you are at it ask them politely to implement multi-pass shaders into Windows version of Desmume because OSX version already has them. While Windows version is inferior and has fixed graphics pipeline

Frankly it's not because Windows needs a feature that the OSX version has, it's that the whole thing needs a unified GUI. The Linux version in particular has many things missing, and it never worked well at least not for me, I'm currently finding it easier to use through RetroArch.

He already explained to you both on the forums and on the sourceforge tracker why he doesn't want to do that right now.

And about the shaders, they've already told you why they can't do that with the current Windows frontend:
https://sourceforge.net/p/desmume/feature-requests/152/

Graphics pipeline is biggest problem for shaders not frontend. Frontend may not be perfect but is usable in my opinion.

If you continue to nag him, he'll just get annoyed and be less likely to implement your suggestions farther in the future. I highly suggest backing off a bit.

It's only recently that we've been able to see 60 FPS at all, and we should thank the Google for it.

This is definitely why I have no ambition whatsoever to implement NDS or N64 emulation.

To me, those high-res screenshots look amazing. I would definitely want to play those enhanced versions rather than the original, authentic 320x240 screens' output.

But it becomes increasingly difficult to strive for both perfecting accuracy and high-level rendering.

It's so nice, to me, that accurate 2D system emulation doesn't have these problems. Apply HQ2x on the output, sure, but it doesn't have to exist anywhere inside the core.
