From the guy that risked his manhood for putting RGBs in your microwave oven, here comes again, this time... defeating DRM on a dishwasher?!

    https://github.com/dekuNukem/bob_cassette_rewinder
    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27013880

Let me understand this: some French entrepreneur deeply into IoT shit came with the brilliant idea of pulling an NintendoHP, but on appliances: a countertop dishwasher that takes proprietary cartridges with dishwashing fluids. And instead of letting you, the dear consumer, refill your own carts with whatever cheap dishwash soap you can find at your nearby store ("rinse aid"?! I'm a dinosaur, I still use a rag and soap for doing my dishes and pots, like an animal!), he instead believes into DaaS ("dishwashing as a service") and tries to get you enrolled into a dishwasher cartridge subscription. And of course, the machine has WiFi for Internet access, because that's what your cellphone needed: yet another app for tracking your appliances!

Fret no more, as our intrepid hacker quickly cracked the DRM (a lame XOR'd single-byte counter, no bounds checking, no checksums!), and also the PROPRIETARY DISHWASHING FLUID SEKRET FORMULA (turns out that it's nothing but commercial-grade stuff you can buy for larger machines for dirt cheap), so all you need is a syringe... and a "chip reset" contraption. Because we're totally living in the future, where our appliances believe they're inkjet printers :/

We're in Weirdest Timeline Ever, so here is one of the few good things coming out of COVID-19: a new Touhou game is getting a same-day launch on both physical AND Steam, for the first time EVER (since there will be no Reitaisai or Comiket for quite some time to come, thanks to China Pest):

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1566410/__Unconnected_Marketeers/

ZUN is desperate for beer, it seems.

Anyway, onto the new girls! Here is the definitive Class of '21:

    - Catgirl! (with money, even!)
    - Yorihime 2 Weed smonking dragon (because Yachie was feeling lonely)
    - CoD/fintech kappa
    - The girl where Cake gets her shiny glass beads
    - Foxgirl! (Touhou was seriously due for a new one, leaving aside the manga one-offs)
    - Blue Aya
    - ZUN doing hard drugs instead of beer (poor Hecatia...) RGB girl, because what Touhou was lacking all these years was a Gamer Grade™ boss!
    - EXTRA STAGE: Minecraft, the 2hu (Oh, and she eats dragons. Poor Yachie...)

Oh, and the whole card system, because that's the rage on videogames nowadays. Bring on the pr0n!

One of the few good things to come out of China Pest™: you can now rent your own private jet... for the cost of a standard cattle-class airfare! And on a Emirates plane, no less~

    https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/covid-impact-just-one-passenger-flew-on-mumbai-dubai-route-on-emirates-widebody-recently/articleshow/82935220.cms

"This 777 is just for you!"

It can't get better than this... well, it could: maybe if it were the elusive private A380 jet...

Butbutbut I need bsnes on my celery running Windows 98!!!

Unsolicited anecdotal data: The 3.06GHz Northwood on my IBM TV box handles Sega Genesis just fine... on PicoDrive and Kega Fusion, which we all know have lost the accuracy crown years ago (well, PicoDrive never aimed for it, but for performance on underpowered junk). Haven't tried the good stuff (read: BlastEm) on it (should be fun). I certainly wouldn't try SNES there as I wouldn't accept anything below bsnes quality. And stuff like Dolphin or Mupen64Plus is riiiiight OUT of the question, that's what I have my T7200/i5-2450M for. So yeah, old hardware is fine for the lulz, not for performance quests.

But hey, if "flawless 5FPS slideshows" or "I don't care about half of the graphics being broken because I only run pirated ROMs of the 3 popular games for systems I've never played in first person, so I don't know how they're supposed to look!" count as "it runs perfectly", hey, more power to you.

(Also I would love to live at those places where "Pentium 4s are free", really - in Soviet Venezuela, people still have to pay money for obsolete junk! - last time I bothered checking, people were asking for $50 for garbage-tier Socket 775 Prescott systems, and even Core 2 Duos still go for good money in the land where Ryzens and ARM toys are like alien technology from outer space)

The future for the biggest passenger jumbo jet ever is stalled:
    https://simpleflying.com/almost-the-end-airbus-has-4-a380s-left-to-deliver/

While the 747 will be hauling cargo 'till the last one rusts down to the bones (and even beyond! - ask Iran), the A380 is doomed to become soda cans (and fancy collectibles for avgeeks) too soon. Serious design flaws (terribad wing, four obsolete gas-guzzling engines) precludes those fat Eurobirds from entering their golden years as cargo planes (remember: the A380F never left the drawing board). To date, at least 4 have already met their fate with the scrapyard... Hell, Concordes managed to survive far longer than that!

Too bad I'll never fly one, I guess :(

I fucking love this guy (no homo).

"Small and fast - pick both"

While multiplatform software is nice, I don't mind having different codebases which take advantage of the native host platform the most, even if we end with very different UIs between Windows/Linux/Mac/cellphones/TVs/whatever.

But instead, we got systemd haters and the Electron/Javascript frat boys, where "platform-specific" is considered to be a lethal sin :/

I mean, I guess "native interface nowhere" is arguably better than "native interface provided your system is exactly the same one we use"...

This self-entitled "I-am-richer-than-you" dickface twat has ensured that his next flight will be IN CARGO, tightly packed on a pallet.

From what I've reading lately, people is going freakin' insane inside airplanes on 'murica since the pandemic start. Let's keep those no-fly lists ballooning, pretty please - the fact you can pay the airfare doesn't imply you can behave like a dick in a flying tube surrounded by other human beings!

    Thankfully I'm not a flight assistant :)

Correction: This self-entitled "My parents are richer than you" dickface twat has ensured his next flight will be in the cargo hold.

    ...

He's lucky I don't set the rules. I would've made it legal for them to hand him a parachute and throw him out the loading ramp.

Aaaaand I've found the perfect airline for this twat:

    https://onemileatatime.com/news/worst-boeing-737-landing/
    https://avherald.com/h?comment=4eb4e975&opt=0

That's how you land a 737 Like A Boss in one of the trickiest airports in the world... NOT!
The plane is literally telling them "we're gonna crash, you idiots!", yet... amazingly they managed to land it in one piece! Furthermore, the very same plane was back in the skies by the next day, so I guess they're lucky to be alive and kickin' - this 737-300 was built in Boeing's BUILT TOUGH™ era.

Apparently this class of air insanity is commonplace in Indonesia (thrashing 737s there seems to be a longstanding tradition), so if you ever see a Indonesian (PK) registration on your next flight... RUN, RUN AWAY! Even if the flight isn't on a MAX!

But for our dear self-entitled "My parents are richer than you" dickface twat, I guess he can afford buying all of Indonesian cargo airlines with his mommy & daddy's cash, and having great flights on those :)

Fly Delta and (hopefully) don't get the Hindi variant of China Pest delta B.1.617.2, because that's totally a catchy name:

    https://news.delta.com/ed-bastian-memo-covid-19-update
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2021/08/26/delta-air-lines-delta-variant-covid/
    https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28326800

To be fair, when I hear "delta" here, I think on Delta Amacuro (the eastern Venezuelan state named after the geographic delta), not Delta Airlines (the ones still flying Mad Dogs disguised as Boeings). But hey, brands have to be protected!

Best HN comment (and sadly downvoted by Hackernews PC hivemind):
Whoever is in charge of Corona public relations should be promptly fired for not doing a better job here.

For example, they could have included one cheap mask (with their logo with their 6-packs so "you only get the good corona"...

(Pepsi actually did that at the height of the pandemic here: buy 2x2 liter bottles and get a free Pepsi-branded facemask)
