    April Fools here too!?

    Lame, guys. Real lame.

Also, The Daily WTF forums have been doing the exact same prank since they switched board software for the last time (which is: 3 years and counting? EDIT: even they stopped doing that for this year, opting for member name shenanigans)

Another great mystery: Sometimes the text gets all blurry, then it goes back to "sharp but aliased" mode. Not sure what triggers it or how to reproduce, but it seems to have something to do with switching windows.

Gimme a checkbox to keep it enabled all year long, please. I'm serious.

Nope. Forced board themes are another hidden admin setting altogether, right next to usernames. Other gimmicks are Forced Anonymous and christmas name colors.

    Forced Anonymous
A setting that's only fun for as long as it stays enabled.

Here's my suggestion: Russian Roulette - It's like Forced Anonymous, but each post has a 1/6 chance of exposing your username and IP. No anonymous proxies.

Yeah, but they were different colors now.

What do the colors mean anyway? Gender and user class?

For a long time, irem loved their 4/1 jokes. Many of them were themed after the scrolling shooter R-Type. The guy responsible eventually left the company, and the 4/1 jokes stopped. One of the last ones they did involved an announcement of R-Type Final 2.

This year for April 1st, Granzella(a company formed from most of irem's game developers) announced R-Type Final 2. Lazy phone-in.
Except it was an ACTUAL game announcement, as they clarified on April 2nd.

I think this might be the best 4/1 gag ever. I think the kids these days call it a "metool-joke"?

    Morrowind: An Oral History

Todd [Howard] and I once got into a 45-minute-long screaming match about how high werewolves should jump.

Is a console audience ready to read all these books? The answer: Fuck yeah, dude. They love the books! Who’s gonna read all these books on their TV? A lot of people.

[Kirkbride] was absolutely essential. And also crazy as a rat in a drainpipe, which is necessary. Somebody had to be really, really, really crazy, and it’s better that your lead designer isn’t.

This is a pretty good (as in "not tasteless" and "anyone can get into it") April Fools special, and it involves two good favorites of everybody: civil airplanes AND soviets!

    https://airwaysmag.com/industry/the-il-496-or-is-it-il-96-400m-what-does-it-mean/

You can even interpret the article as "half-joking", if you will.

Speaking about unlovely Soviet/Russian airplanes you're unlikely to board in your lifetime, if you're THAT bored of the Airbus/Boeing duopoly (or its equivalent at the lower end, Bombardier/Embraer... which thanks to recent business transactions is effectively becoming Airbus/Boeing!), here are your chances to ride one of those weird and wonderful fat Soviet birds:

    1) Move to Russia (or any former Soviet republic). Aeroflot and friends will keep flying those native birds until they rust down to the bone (or at least for as long as jet fuel is cheaper than buying Western aircraft)

    2) Visit Cuba on their flag airline, Cubana. This guarantees you a ride on a newish Il-96-300 at the very least (apparently the Antonovs are no longer flying). But be careful: it seems Cubana is now leasing western aircraft too!

    3) If you're at 'murica, just fly Interjet down south of the border: you can ride the hottest and newest Russian bird, the Sukhoi Super Jet 100. But hurry up: the airline is about to dump their entire SSJ100 fleet due to shortages of spare parts because those half-French PowerJet engines can't stop breaking (mind you: this is not exclusive to Interjet, as even Soviet airlines are having a hard time with those fragile engines too). I can only guess that Sukhoi salesdroids laced that vodka with some strong stuff just to sweeten the deal for those Mexicans, which are now massively bleeding pesos over that huge mistake.

    4) For the ultimate go-around Soviet bird enthusiast experience, Best Korea got you covered: for a modest amount of hard currency (cheaper than mining buttcoins!) you can get the ride of your lifetime, flying on the entire Air Koryo fleet! From flying on the last active commercial Il-62 in the world (you know, the one with the four engines mounted at the rear of the plane because they copied this really weird idea from the British VC10), to modern Tu-204s (you will enter and leave the country on one of those) and An-148s, and even in military helicopters straight from the Cold War age! All this while you pay your eternal respects to the Dear Leader, of course! One word of warning: please leave the iDevices and GoPros at home, if you value your life. Journalists and citizens from the wrong Korea need not apply. But for the Antonov/Ilyushin/Tupolev fan at heart, this is a chance you should not miss (and in fact, there are frequent repeat flyers on the tours). And dying at Best Korea certainly beats dying on a 737 MAX any day of the week :P

Russian author of censorship circumvention utility gets shadowbanned from GitHub without any explanation

    Plausible reasons:
    1. Roskomnadzor made them do it (not plausible, they'd just block the repo for Russian users)
    2. He posted an exploit of SecureBoot, although it was outside of GitHub, which Microsoft, the proprietor of GitHub, doesn't like.
    3. He posted magnet links to the Christchurch mosque shooting, which the government of New Zealand doesn't like.

‘Some years ago you had a very serious delusion indeed. You believed that three men, three one-time Party members named Jones, Aaronson, and Rutherford—men who were executed for treachery and sabotage after making the fullest possible confession—were not guilty of the crimes they were charged with. You believed that you had seen unmistakable documentary evidence proving that their confessions were false. There was a certain photograph about which you had a hallucination. You believed that you had actually held it in your hands. It was a photograph something like this.’

Some homemade firearms confiscated from Zimbabwian poachers.

They look like they'd be somewhat, umm, EXCITING to fire, in a "will it explode into shrapnel right next to my face" sort of way.

One of them is ADORABLE in how hard it tries to look like a "real gun". There's a wooden foregrip on it that looks suspiciously like it is based off the magazine of a modern rifle(such as an AR15 or AK47). It implies to me that the "gunsmith" THOUGHT that the curved thing sticking down in front of the trigger on those gun pictures he saw was a foregrip and not a magazine.
