you're starting to sound like anewuser (which surprisingly has yet to post his pro-soviet, er, "I listen to both parties" crapola)

oh god, I hope he's not here... the old place had enough troll/sockpuppet as it was...

Pretty weak library overall. looks like it came at a really bad time too and it was sort of in-between console generations
The idea of there being lockstep generations wasn't yet something people DID.

The 32x's biggest problem was the Saturn. Sega Japan yanked the rug right out from under it.

I've seen some interviews with people involved recently, and basically everyone knew the 32x was a bad idea, but no one actually had the authority to kill it. It made sense when proposed, but it was delayed to the point that it needed to rumble with the Playstation and Saturn, and it couldn't really stand on an even footing with them. That Sega Japan had assigned all the good developers to the Saturn so they weren't available to make 32x software didn't really help anything.

The "got enhanced 16-bit games" thing is just a matter of time frame. It got the titles that were hot at the time it was out, which... also came out on Super Nintendo and Genesis because they were hot.

Does that mean we should crucify the UK for everything that happened over a century ago?
OBVIOUSLY. NEVER FORGIVE, NEVER FORGET. THE SINS OF THE FATHER SHALL BE VISITED UPON HIS SONS.

That's not part of the license.

Nonetheless, the Mozilla Public License is too complex for its own good, and very much a product of the era.

Sophie Wilson - The Future of Microprocessors - in this talk from 2016, one of the designers of the original ARM1 CPU discusses how CPUs got ten thousand times faster over the course of her lifetime, and why they aren't going to get much faster than they are now. Among other things, she discusses Moore's Law, Amdahl's Law, and has a cool "power density" chart that plots Intel CPUs from the 80386 to the Core i7 against "hot plate", "nuclear reactor" and "rocket nozzle".

Spoiler: Intel hit "hot plate" shortly after the Pentium Pro, but they chickened out before the P4 could reach "nuclear reactor".

The P4 didn't go nuclear? LAME!

Also, did they address currently-proposed solutions like replacing silicon with diamond?

How could she not? I'm once again mystified by the fairer sex.

I remember liking Metal Head when my cousin had a 32x.
I don't remember why.
I do remember it is one of the few games that uses the mode button as a gameplay control.

Great little SNES game I just discovered: Super Chase H.Q

Very short but pretty fun. 6 stages in total. You can only reach the 6th stage if you don't use any continue.

Based on the arcade game Super Chase... I've played that one, it is pretty fantastic.
Important things lost in the home port: The arcade marquee has red and blue lights that start flashing when you engage your target.

(There's a few games in the Chase HQ series, and ALMOST NONE OF THEM convey this in the titles.)

Yeah, just noticed it's based on an arcade game (Super Chase : Criminal Termination) which I was also unfamiliar with. Obviously, the arcade is technically light years ahead of the SNES game but in a way, the fact I was unfamiliar with either games didn't create any expectation. I'd say the SNES game is, on its own, impressive given the limitations of the system. Sort of like Jr. Pac-Man was impressive for the 2600/VCS.

Also, although most of the spoken lines of the arcade were cut, they did kept the "This is Nancy ^_^" line intact.
The flashing lights in the marquee are just impossible to port to the home version.
...
They're also rather eye-catching. Turns out it is a REALLY good way to make people notice your game on the floor.

(read "SRAM" as "battery-backup save RAM", not "Static RAM").

In fairness, battery-backed RAMs are usually static RAMs due to the lower power draw.

If it's those seen in this video; yeah, unless the home ports came with some kind of peripheral that you'd connect somewhere, that would indeed be hard to replicate in an home port.

Well, that's Chase HQ, not Super Chase, but same premise.
Hard to say without seeing them in-person, but I think Super Chase's are larger and brighter.

Fun fact: the Japanese version of Virtua Racing has SRAM backup save (for record times?). The export versions lost that feature (most likely as a cost cutting measure). But hey, at least they did changed the main menu colors (which were quite unreadable on the JP original), and the "VIIIIIIRTUA RACING!" chant (the JP one is lazy as hell).

You'd think for a game that reportedly retailed for $99US at launch, a couple more bucks for RAM and a battery wouldn't have broke them. :P
Hundred bucks was for the Genesis version, not the 32x version. The coprocessor jacked the price up.

It sounds too good to be true, and I have no idea how they're able to legally distribute it, but the core concept seems reasonable.
What makes you think it is remotely legal?

... but democracy has had a pretty good track record versus dictatorships (albeit a bit bruised since 2016) but there's hope yet.
I'd say we've been going downhill rather dramatically since 2001. Some assholes wrecked a plane, and it rapidly changed how people thought of liberty, state surveillance, innocent until proven guilty, and a whole host of other things. And they've just been inching the line a little further every time anyone looks away.
