Fine, take over the DNS for all users, because clearly their infrastructure doesn't know shit. But let people like me do what we want, because I know a thing or two more than those shits. I run OpenWrt on my router, for fuck's sake.

And like that, I finished it, with 99% map completion and 92% item collection rate. Damn, that last boss was easy, what with those laser pods doing such weak damage, and frequently dropping such a huge health boost.

I didn't even bother with the optional boss, apparently there's supposed to be a trophy for sparing it? Too bad EGS doesn't do cheevos.

You gotta admit, it would be way more fun as a cheater hellscape than this anti-emulator bullshit.

Oh, and no ban system, because that obviously doesn't work anyway.

Working my way through Borderlands 3. For some reason, this time, I’m way more attached to rushing through the plot, and mostly neglecting the side missions. This is probably quite bad, especially since a lot of these look like they could be dependent on doing them when they become available, as they could become impossible to do later, due to plot deaths or such.

When you say "this time", do you mean as opposed to previous times you've played Borderlands 3, or previous Borderlands games you've played?

Is the main quest super-interesting, or do the side-quests just sound boring?

I mean compared to the previous Borderlands games.

And this game is a little different from the past ones. The menu is fast to open and switch quests, but there's hotkeys to cycle through them now, too.

Which is good, because this game, unlike the previous ones, doesn't automatically switch your objectives to the last mission you just picked up, and tends to stay on whatever one you currently have selected. Although, just like the previous ones, when you complete the current mission, it automatically selects the main plot mission.

I'm doing the side quests now, they're quite fun. Like this one with some guy in the Atlas HQ named Terry. That was funny shit.

You may be the outlier in being a PS4 Pro owner. I own one banned PS3 that can't be modded.

Meanwhile, I finished the main plot of Borderlands 3 yesterday. I was a bit disappointed by some of the plot directions, but it's okay, it played out okay in the end. I also found the final boss to be way easier than one of the earlier plot bosses that I had to redo over 20 times before I figured on an appropriate weapon and gameplay style.

Started a new game in Dead Space, after almost a decade since I last played it. I already had 11 hours on the clock from back then, but no save files to go with that. Just as soon start over anyway.

Plays liquid smooth at 3840x2160@60Hz, max settings. Linux.

I'll probably never own any hardware that Horizon: Zero Dawn will run on, but I've been watching a YouTube Let's Play, and it looks pretty great. Portraying current-day or near-future technology as the relics of a lost civilisation is absolutely my jam, and H:ZD is so much better at it than I could ever be, it's kind of frustrating.

Oh goody, Stadia, but for PS4 games.

Played some Minecraft Bedrock Edition, care of a fork of mcpelauncher, and the latest version from Google Play for x86. Works great.

Also played Dead Space. Was making it pretty far, destroyed gravity tethers harnessing an asteroid, planted a beacon on it, released it into space, killed the ambush that came after me, and proceeded back to the nearby elevator. Instead of getting to activate the elevator, I fricking FELL THROUGH THE DAMN FLOOR INTO SPACE. Reloaded my last save, it was well before doing any of the above, so I gave up for now.

Don't even bother to disable the recompiler options, that's a horrible idea. It's also not a fair benchmark, as it uses some really poorly optimized C code for everything. If you want to make it worse, make the RSP interpreter mode as well, that has at least a 4x slowdown effect compared to the recompiler.

For instance, Echo Marches from Blast Corps, using foo_input_usf, with HLE audio and resampling to 44100Hz, with 3 decoding passes:

Total length: 24:06.069
Opening time: 0:00.176
Decoding time: 0:22.622
63.427x realtime

That works out to about 1.58% of a single core, or 0.0988 % of the total CPU if you're using Windows or a similar task manager.

That's a Ryzen 7 2700.

It's a really crappy interpreter, emulating a 90MHz RISC processor. The other interpreter case, which compounds the slowness, is emulating a 60MHz RISC processor with vector math instructions, using conventional floating point math in C instead.

But yeah, I doubt that 920 is actually outperforming the 3700X. It's probably an unfair workload.

Probably not a good comparison, since these jokers already knock off any comparison >8 threads as "extra" information and not part of the base comparison.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-920-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3700X/1981vs4043

This says the 3700X should be 103% better at single core tasks.

Which sort of explains my dad's situation with the iMac I gave him for Christmas a few years ago. He prefers the shitty corded Dell mouse that came with the shitty Dell minitower he bought before I gave him that machine, to the slightly annoying and terribly not ergonomic Apple Magic Mouse that came with the iMac.

But I absolutely love the touch scrolling, and some of the gestures. Linux hid_magicmouse comes close with some settings that are annoyingly non default, like scrolling acceleration, but is missing gesture support entirely. A git repository shows a patch to add those so it’s not just magic trackpads that have gestures, but apparently it’s not accepted into upstream.

WizTree is like the best of WinDirStat and Everything, a disk space usage analyzer that uses the MFT directly. Of course, that optimization only works with NTFS volumes, but most Windows users are on that, right?

I still like SequoiaView's "Cushion Treemap" display more than any other program's display that I've tried.

So maybe request the rendering style as a feature in WizTree? I mean, it's still worth using for the speed of scanning alone, but SequoiaView still works, yes.

I don't think Windows can even install on a FAT partition anymore. :(

Yes, but it supports scanning all of your partitions for usage data. And Windows also supports ReFS, and Windows Pro for Workstations supports creating partitions in that format.

Your father is a man of taste. The standard mice work fine, are pleasant to use, and have no significant downsides, unlike the Apple mice which lack the right click button and feel deeply unpleasant to use. They're too heavy to click and the feedback feels mushy.
(Fun fact: right click works as usual if you plug a standard mouse into a computer running Mac OS X)

Hi, I don't know what the hell you're talking about. It has a right click if you turn it on. On Linux, it even has a shitty middle click if you turn that on as well. It's not that useful for gaming, but it's plenty enough for common desktop usage.

Conversely, it also absolutely requires a mouse mat, because Apple decided not to put skid pads on the skates, so they make godawful scraping noises on wooden or paper coated desks.

It's okay, but the only feature I'd like in another mouse is the touch scrolling and page swiping gestures. Except now that I think about it, the touch surface is also sensitive, and I frequently rest my fingers on the mouse "button", which likes to trigger scrolling on me. So on second thought, I sort of like it, but sort of hate it, too.
