Sorry if this is presumptuous coming from someone that's just registered, but have you considered building off an existing engine. The Tome 4 Engine, in particular, comes to mind.

I'm not saying your engine is bad, per sed, but it is undeniably rough around the edges. An existing engine would let you get straight to work on the content, while building off of a stable base that has strong multiplatform support.

At any rate, thanks for making the game. Whatever you end up doing, more roguelikes in the world is better than less :) .

...you did not just say that.

I've been working on this for too long with tools I'm very comfortable and familiar with and now you come in all presumptuous-like and suggest starting over? Not to mention implying Noxico isn't multiplatform. *grumble*

8-)

Heh. Yeah, can't say I expected you to just jump up and say "What a great idea, I'll get right on it." Though I can't deny a part of me was kinda hoping.

In all seriousness, though, the interface is a little rough around the edges, even for a roguelike. I don't know how much of that is because I'm running on wine, but the characters are squished and sometimes overlap. Figuring out basic things like how much HP I have took a while, and I'm still not sure if there's a good way to restore it. And I've also found it a tiny bit crashy (had a hard time reproducing, but I've noticed the most crashes while using the look command).

Despite that heaping of criticism, I really do like the game. I think it's an interesting concept, and I can see a lot of potential there. I particularly enjoy the dwarf fortress references scattered around.

Edit:

Apparently I'm blind for at least one complaint. I just noticed it shows the health for a bit after combat.

First of all, you shouldn't need wine, only Mono. It's not a Win32 application. Second, ~/.config/noxico.ini will contain a section on fonts that you can use to adjust the display.

It also tells you, as one of the first things when gameplay begins, to press F1. You get to see your HP and much more then.

You can restore HP by sleeping and eating certain stuff, but getting that stuff is a bit difficult atm.
