Good Ol' Adventure CANNOT BE DEAD!

Joey Cmon everyone! everytime I check no ones at good ol adventures. i have some pretty awesome memories of that. i remember me and corby and i think it was pat played a police game where i was dooley and we had to go to the space station and find a criminal. it was so fun. lets try and go there more often people! ill try and go there everytime im online now. it was so fun when there was like 14 other people there. that was the good ol days. now its not so great cause no one goes there much :( well maybe they do but when i check no ones there. we need to communicate as an AGI community people! so lets go to chris's chat and good ol adventures more often! see you there!
Robin_Gravel I stopped going to goa because it's boring after a while.

Chatting and playing adventure on-line don't mix well for me. If I whish playing adventure games, I'll play them off-line.

sonneveld I stopped going when they stopped supporting Mozilla and made it IE6-only for a while. I think they've updated it since though.

Andrew_Baker Yar, I can't get it to work with Mozilla, either, and I try to log on about every month or so. Every time I go there, it's all, like, instead of giving you a normally functioning avatar chat, we're going to show all of the ego character's entire animation loop so it looks like there's about 30 clones on the screen... doing a chorus line or something.
Joey i believe there is a quest now that you can do. plus you can do commands like look and get key and stuff. its really cool. plus there are so many characters and places to go. cmon everyone. its really fun. atleast when i am there it is! i make up our own adventures to do. like we can all be in a police squad and have to go investigate a situation at the car crash or something. let agi live!
Robin_Gravel
cmon everyone. its really fun

Why we should go to goa to play some games on-line when you have already played them off-line?

Already, nerby nobody comes to Chris' chatroom because
nobody has something to say. GOA will not get people to chat either.

And nobody will not wish to spend many hours to play agi games on the internet. There are plenty of fanmade games to download and play them

Only the goa programmers are still interesting to their work. Myself, I tried goa a few months ago and I got bored after a while.

Robin Gravel
Joey robin, but can you play all those adventure with MORE than one person and go on quests together?
AGI1122 It isn't even an adventure yet, there are no games, it's just a chat.

I think after mini-games are done, then people will play on them, but until then, people can't just talk forever.
Joey whats wrong with you people!? have you no imagination!? have you no child left in you? if you dont, then you are turning into one hell of a boring person! adventures can be made themselves by us. just go in there and make up a little quest. thats what i did with some guy today. this is what happened:

we PRETENDED to be deserted outside the sq1 bar. our ship had broken and we had to fix it. when we fixed it we flew back to the orbital station. i was cleaning outside...when all of a sudden a bomb was about to blow up! we leaped for our lives (outside the station if you just walk towards space you float off) and landed in vohauls base. we knew he was the one that planted the bomb in our station. we found him but he shrunk us. we went into the vent and pushed a button that stopped his breathing (you really can start or stop the compressor). then we went back to the station to clean up after the explostion.

it was REALLY fun. and i think i have a great imagination. so if you are bored, go to goa with me and we will have an awesome adventure! it could be anywhere. it doesnt have to be with just sq stuff.

trust me...just a little imagination can make something a LOT funner. see for yourselves if you wish.
Robin_Gravel
have you no imagination!?

Yes. I have some imagination. That's why I'm still working on adventure games.

I get the same feelings when I'm playing SQ games over and over. And I can use my name as well (in sq 1 and 2).

I understand you like goa, it's your opinion after all.

But the majority of people might not follow you.

Joey. Please don't push far away like ' whats wrong with you people', you could hurt some people and a moderator will lock this thread and you will not help goa neither.

Brian_Provinciano I honestly think the concept has potential, but the implementation of the idea is poor. The fact it that all it is, is a text chat room where you can control a sprite that walks around. The sprite can't do anything other than walk! It can't interact with other sprites, it can't do anything other than walk around. Frankly that being the case, it's better off to just talk on IRC--no need to waste screen space on graphics that lose their novelty after thirty seconds.

If it had an SCI1-like point and click interface with an inventory, virtual shops, tons of objects on the screen to pick up, use, and interact with, the ability to build on and modify the worlds, and so forth, and mini games to play with each other such as a sword match, or whatnot, it would really be something. However, all you can do is walk!

Those types of things are planned. Martin has been working on mini games, inventories, and other such things.

The sprites can interact with other sprites, but only to a certain degree. The players can't walk into eachother because of the lag between both players which makes it impossible for the server to know when to stop them.
Kon-Tiki Well, the main reason why I'm never there, is that the pc crashes when I close GOA ::)

About the need to do something there (Brian's suggestion), maybe Martin and the other GOA devs can take a look at Cinderella Sings in Circles It has basically the same idea, with the interaction all worked out, just waiting for SCI Vga Studio to be released so we can find and add a networking/internet code to it and start production.

Well, don't close GOA then... ::)

Very nice project...
Joey im not saying stuff like that robin, i am trying to encourage more people to go. if not many people use it, why should martin keep working on it? if no one is going to use it anyway, it is just a waste. we affect the impact on it.
Brian_Provinciano People will start using it when it's more complete with more content. Simply text and walking isn't enough to make it more useful than simple text IRC.

When SCI Studio didn't have a template game, people weren't making games (naturally! the template is a hell of a lot more work that most people think). Still, I kept working on it though people weren't making games with it at the time, then when I released the template, people actually started making games. The dilemma right now is that though SCI Studio EGA is complete, nearly everyone has the mindset that they are going to wait for SCI Studio VGA to make their games, so they still aren't making a many. Since I've been doing this for over four years, I often wonder if when I release SCI Studio that makes VGA SCI1 games, people will have the same thoughts as on SCI Studio EGA and say "I'll wait for SCI Studio VGA32" or whatnot. However, the point is, that people mainly want a VGA Sierra game studio. If I release an EGA one, there won't be as many people using it. The case here is that many people want an online adventure game where you can chat and everything, but you can't expect them to use it when it's got no game to it! What the author needs to do is add the game elements to it, because until then, we will never know if there is interest for it. If people can't actually play the game, how can they decide whether or not they want to continue using it?
Andrew_Baker I'll repeat to Joey... when they support Mozilla, I'll probably go there. IE is a waste of filespace.

On the contrary, as IE is the Windows shell, it does not take up any extra space. Sure, the shell could be smaller without it, but then it wouldn't have all the built in internet technology. 90% of the apps you download for Windows that use the internet use the IE lib.

I used to be anti-Microsoft and anti-IE and only use Netscape/Mozilla, but eventually switched for many reasons. For one, many sites were IE only, yes, I used to blame Microsoft too, but the fact is, it's really the webmaster's fault. If the webmaster decides use the built in IE features instead of being creative with their scripting to make an equivilant for all browsers, it's their fault. Second, I used to think it was a monopoly how Microsoft included all of this stuff such as IE built-in. However, after a number of reformats, I began to really like the fact that I didn't have to reinstall so much as so much was preinstalled. Honestly though, in this day an age, how can you expect an OS not to have built in internet? All the useful Linux/BSD/etc. distros have built in browesers, as do Macs, etc.

Also, because IE is the shell, it just opens up taking up on more space from the page it's viewing and a few inet routines. Mozilla on the other hand will be extra stuff running in the background when you're not using it, slows the boot time, and is slower to load. Plus, I don't like tabbed pages, not XP's optional grouped taskicons. I like my computer clean and simple. If I have a perfectly working browser, I don't want to waste my memory on another.

I also hate skinned apps such as many third party browsers and such. The only good skinned app was WinAmp2. WinAmp3 is too bloated and slow! WinAmp2's skinning was fine because it was just a flat surface with buttons. Something like Netscape on the otherhand has all that custom controls for everything from buttons to text fields. That to me us just useless wasting of memory. All I want to do it browse web pages, I don't need a fancy looking browser. All I need is a simple back button, not a fancy animated waste of memory, and so forth.

Geez, I kinda got off track...my two cents though
Joey well...i just cant wait til everyone goes there again!
Andrew_Baker Uh... I use Linux, so I should reiterate... IE *and* Windows are both wastes of filespace.

Just kidding, though, as I use XP for work.
