Whoosh.

Joakim Hello all fellows!

I've been sleeping for a while, and returned. (yet again)

Or, you could say I've been overwhelmed with my work, it's really killing me at the moment. But then, you've got to earn a living.

So, could anyone please fill me in what've happened in the AGI scene the last couple of months? I have to try to keep the AGI part of myself going..

/ Joakim

Even though it's been asleep, please visit and try to give me some input. I just cannot work on projects without anyone giving me critizism or flowers, they just die out... Perhaps another AGI editor is not wanted?
Robin_Gravel Hi Joakim

The only thing I need is a sound editor.

Robin Gravel

Joakim Yeah, that's also what I wanted. And that's why I made one. ;) ..

But no one seemed to use it, and therefore I haven't continued on it. I haven't got a single bug report or feature request or anything. That really doesn't feel like someone spanking your ass to move forward.. :(

Please try my latest beta of the sound editor, you can find it at !

Hey, just checked the date of the latest beta. It's almost a YEAR ago!!? Wow. Feels like I've been sleeping under a rock somewhere.. ;)

Robin_Gravel Thanks Joakim

It works. But one file is missing: visual agi.hlp when clicking on help topics.

Thankfully, the readme file shows me how visual agi works.

AGI1122 I use visual AGI to make my sound so you are wrong in saying no one uses it. I also point every body that asks how to make sounds to it. To bad it is still a beta I would personally love another AGI Editor besides AGI Studio. Good luck if you plan to continue with it. Sorry I haven't sent in any bug reports or motivation I saw no point since it looked like it was abandoned. Well here it goes:

I love your sound editor it is great. Too bad it is not a complete resource editor. Also the sounds need to be easier to make for people that don't know what they are doing. Also you should make it easer to start making sounds. Plus add a help file.
AGI1122 Hey I was wondering if you would mind if I use your AGI game thing for a web site I am going to make. I will give you full credit for it.
Zero Hi.
Joakim Hello again,

I've been flying around (literally, quick trip to Finland), that's why I haven't been able to answer until now.

To Robin;
We have not completed a help file because it's a pain in the ass rewriting the help file over and over again during the development phase. But we will of course feature a full help file when we move closer to a full version.

To Chris;
a) That's lovely to hear! I thought that nobody ever bothered about it. I wrote the sound editor to be as close to Buzz (the tracker) as possible, but for everyday people it's perhaps easier to use a piano roll or staff possibility.. I'll have to give that a thought. Have you got any ideas to make it easier for people to create music?

b) As you are probably the one and only proven user of the Visual AGI beta, I'd be more than happy to offer you our layout. That is as long as you give proper credits to the vAGI dev team ;) Contact me with an e-mail and we can discuss it.

Would you perhaps want to feature some example songs that you've written with future beta releases? (although I do a lot of music myself, I don't have the time to code and write at the same time ;)

Btw, you guys just pumped up our enthusiasm to a slightly higher level. Keep up the good work, and we'll try to do the same on our side.

I can't think of any at the moment but I will tell you if I do.

Yeah sure I will give you full credit. I like that AGI game design that is why I want to use it. Hey I just thought of something cool I wonder if I could make a point and click AGI game online using that design.

All the songs that I have made so far don't sound so good. But practice makes perfect. I will send you a song if I make a good one.

Glad to help, hopefully we inspired you to work on Visual AGI or even release another beta.
Joel I thought Visual AGI looked promising, and I would like to see further development on it. I do think that at least an option to edit sounds with a musical staff rather than all that number stuff would be much easier. I'm not very patient with trying to learn user interfaces, and I couldn't figure that one out just by looking at it and clicking around. At the moment, I find it easier to make a simple midi file and convert it with midi2rol and rol2snd.
AGI1122 Joakim I e-mailed you with some info.

I thought of a good idea to make it easier use piano keys on the screen and let the user press the piano keys to make the sounds.
Stan Yeah, piano keys sound like a very good idea to me. I was wondering if there was a tool like that around. My game is 30% finsihed but i don't want to put out a demo without some proper music... What other tools do any of you use to start making tunes?
Joakim: I have been using vAgi as well, (mainly to check sound-resources) though not a lot cause I am more familiar with peter's AgiStudio. But i was waiting for a new release, since the project looks and sounds very promising.
AGI1122 Thanks Joakim I have started work on making an AGI type game using your design and don't worry I gave you and Tobias credit along with a link to your site.

So far so good but I do have to write lots of my own code for saving, restoring, and restarting and other such funcions to make it game like. I am going to use cookies to detect a saved game on the players computer which takes care of the problem of it being a web game and not on a hard drive.
Nailhead Chris, sounds like a really cool idea, merging an AGI game into a website.
