|Khaveen||I look deeper in one of these Russian SCI games(see topic "Russian Versions of SCI Games?!") with SCI Decoder VGA and extracted one of the fonts. When I tried to open this font with SCI Studio it did open only the first 128 english characters. When I tried to edit the 128th character which contained a russian letter the program showed an error message and closed. I think that translators just got the version which contained more than 128 characters(for example, French or German) and edited these characters. But how?|
I'm from russia, so i know such sierra games existed in russian:|
Taralej & JoboCrack translated:
LSL1 Remake, SQ1 Remake, SQ4, SQ5.
Somebody else translated:
LSL 7 (trnsl by Akella) and SQ 6...
KQ2, PQ1, SQ2, KQ3 by A. Malyshko...
And some games by CoktelVision were translated by Taralej and JaboCrack...
As i know SCI vga font files saves all 256 symbols...
Oh! And i forgot:|
If anybody have troubles running newsciv.exe,
just copy this file from english version of this game - that should work (It worked for me).
Because newsciv.exe don't work on newer computers...

Little update (i'm totally forgot about it). About 1-2 years ago one SCI games has been offically released in russia. It's fully localized game Phantasmagoria 1 published by SoftClub comany. You can find more info here http://russo.ag.ru/official/125/ Page in russian, but you'll find few screnshots and sound samples there.
Woah. Must've been hard to do, translate all that on-screen text.|
Then again, I never played the game and can't see how those screens are built up so :-X
The best translation is LSL 7!|
But my favorite is LSL 1 remake - great text, even humor became "more russian"...
Sadly, i haven't seen KQ7 at all :-(
But i've played all others Sierra adventures (Exept GK2...)
|Khaveen||I added Russian fonts to Hero's Quest(SCI0) and it all works fine, except this: the SCI engine never understands Russian letters as letters. So, when you type command on Russian, he understands it like a bunch of spaces. :'( Is there somebody who knows how to make new letters in SCI?|
You can't. The SCI0 interpreter is not 8-bit clean, and large parts
would have to be re-engineered to make it work (That's what Sierra did with SCI01).
Some time ago, I put a little document together that never made it into the FreeSCI
docs - you can now find it here: http://freesci.linuxgames.com/i18n.txt
|Khaveen||Thanks, Lars. I'll try to think this out. But still, if there is somebody who knows how we can avoid this problem, please, post here.|
|Farlander||I thought that the only russian AGI game is LSL1.... I have one. Shish, if you are still here, can you say where did you found the russian versions of other agi games? I'v never heard of a SQ6 translation...|
I have a KQ3 russian version.|
And russian translation of F**k Quest i did myself.
I know that PQ agi version exist but i have never seen it...
SoftClub is planning to do official translation of KQ7!
I'll wait for it!
I have "Sierra Presents" CD with many Sierra adventures and all existing russian versions...
I found it... It costs 640 rubles... It's about 20$...
If somebody interested i can put out KQ3 agi russian somewhere in net FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!
Yes, agi and sci0 is not supporting russian symbols entry, you need special loader to do this.
I have one only 4 agi...
Where can i find sci0 russian games?
|Farlander||I am russian to. I know about KQ. As far as I know it will be released in August. I also plan to buy Phantasmogoria too translated buy SoftClub. How did you translated F**k Quest?! Which program did you use? I am always looking for Russian versions of Sierra games to add them into my coleection :), and of course to play them again, only on russian.. And as far as I know there are no SCI0 translations.. And about what loader did you talk? I don't know if you have russian fonts, but I hope so: как насчет обмены? Я тебе посылаю ларри первый, а ты мне kq3, но это конечно же если никто не захочет чтобы ты выкладывал в интернет игру.|
|Farlander||Woa!! What a mess! Well, ok: esli nikto ne zahochet shtobi ti postavil na sait kq3, to davai obmeniaemsia. Ti mne kq3 (po emeilu, on vedi ne takoi bolishoi), a ia tebe larri 1 esli on tebe nujen.|
Listen, write me on my e-mail...
Ya tebe vse prishlu, a LSL na agi russky u menia est'...
Daje smeshno tak pisat' ;)
To translate F**k Quest i used old version of AGI Studio...
You can find it on
if i haven't deleted everything yet...
I used loader (start.exe) from russian LSL 1.
|Eero R||You can't post Russian letters on the board, even if you want to exchange games... Oh, and did Russian company Fargus (Фаргус) translate any Sierra SCI games?|
|Farlander||As far as I know Fargus only translated KQ8 (Which has a bug with a feather, I think... well, patches can't fix that problem). And they translated QFGV which even don' start. I don't know why these two games are so fargus-buggy.|
Why, I played QFG V by Fargus, which is translated completely except voices. And Fargus translated Kq7 too. |
P. S. Hey guys, This thread is about technolohy of translating, not quality. I just wanted to know how to translate SCI0 parser commands. Anybody has some ideas?
|Farlander||Well, I remember repainting english fonts to russian fonts, so they were as in russian keyboard layout. (I did this with Hero's Quest) So english a is russian f and so on (and to add words to vocabulary, so look, will be posmotri, which interepter will understand as gjcvjnhb. But if you add that word to a group that is in look, it will work fine). But there are some problems that I realized. menu. Menu is in script, but I don't know how to script in SCI Studio. Of course if you know how to scrip, you can make your own new scripts, that are the same as old ones, except they will have russian words. That can be done with some other scripts that are not menu's, but in games.|
Hey, I'm translating Hero's Quest too! Did you finish translating it? |
And about your translating way... I tried this too. But I can't write english letters with such font (for example, I want to write my e-mail in the help menu, but I can't). All I have to do is to wait for a new SCI studio and to convert the whole game to SCI01.
|Farlander||Well, it is only 2-3% done. Because the current SCI studio can't support my needs to translate that game.|
