 SNES Hardware Revisions
I'm trying to catalog and obtain every type of SNES console, if at all possible. I'd also like to understand what makes them different. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm especially curious about what the APU and GPM revisions changed / were for. Missing board revisions are also welcome.

What I know of:

SHVC-CPU-01
* original 1/1/1 release
* APU is a separate module
* cartridge connector can be removed

SNS-CPU-APU-01
???

SNS-CPU-GPM-01
???

SNS-CPU-GPM-02
???

SNS-CPU-RGB-01
* 2/1/3 release
* APU is integrated onto the board itself
* cartridge connector cannot be removed

SNS-CPU-RGB-02
???

SNS-CPU-1CHIP-01
* 2/1/3 release
* CPU/PPU is integrated
* SMP/DSP is integrated

SNS-CPU-1CHIP-02
???

SNS-CPU-1CHIP-03
* CSYNC is no longer connected

SNN-CPU-01
* R/G/B/CSYNC/Y/C are no longer connected
* expansion port is removed
* CPU/PPU is integrated
* SMP/DSP is integrated

What I own:

Super Famicom - Japan:

S23732094 SNS-CPU-RGB-01 (2/1/3)

SM11139738 SNS-CPU-RGB-01 (2/1/3)

Super Nintendo - North America:

UN30908024(6) SNES-CPU-1CHIP-01

UC305799180 SNN-CPU-01 (1CHIP)

(Sadly, I got rid of my dead JP 1/1/1 to conserve space.)

Finally, the thread I was waiting for.

Still undecided about which Super Famicom, besides Higan, I should buy.

At least going down that rabbit hole is simpler than getting all the Genesis variants. :P

And hell, there may only be three versions of Vectrex, but you can probably get all the Super Nintendo revisions for the cost of a single japanese Vectrex.

Byuu, you probably already know of this document, but here it is just in case:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1q1H5eQYEG_evwpVmAVMAXa9UC6SAcvblr5igUnmpwRk/pub?output=html

The blue section refers to NTSC revisions in the order in which they came out. I personally have the APU and the 1CHIP-03, and the difference in picture quality is night-and-day. In fact, here's my precious:

But, you have several compatibilities issues that arise, isn't it?

I will take a first gen MDwith a Mega CD and I'll be happy.
Or a second gen with a Mega CD 2 worst case scenario.

Glad I don't collect stuff anymore. ^^
