Apparently Microsoft has finally changed the Windows 10 terminal colours from the traditional Windows 3.1 16 color palette to something a bit more readable. Unfortunately, GNOME Terminal doesn't exactly make it easy to set a custom palette. There's a lot of cool colour schemes in the world, but while every terminal has the same basic colour settings, there's a bunch of weird colour-scheme formats; it seems like there's a great opportunity for somebody to write a tool to convert between them. Preferably one that doesn't involve downloading shell-scripts from the internet and automatically running them. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI. |

I like that Microsoft says it is because of modern high-contrast LCDs, when the colors are only a problem because LCDs are lower-contrast than CRTs were. SAVE US, SED! I MEAN PLASMA! I MEAN DLP! I MEAN OLED! --- In UTF-16, where available. --- |

I tend to use bright schemes wherever I go so my terminal is usually pure black on white, cannot stand it when non block solid colours are used on a terminal screen, it just isnt right to me :P |

cmd.exe uses the Console subsystem so the closest to "whatever MS uses nowadays to render console apps" would be... it was conhost.exe in Win7, at least. |

IF you're in, say C:\MAME, you'd have to type .\mame64 to run the emulator, because it enforces a distinction between commands and files. . is just the current directory, so it is the same as typing c:\mame\mame64.exe
