Found anything particularly nutty in SCI games, Kawa?
SCI games don't run on Steam. They're too damn old for that. They may have custom ScummVM builds wrapped around them though. The Larry bundle certainly doesn't. The 7th Guest Anniversary Edition on the other hand is a prime example and comes with Steam chives.

What I'd do if I wanted chives in The Dating Pool badly enough is leverage its launcher frontend. It already stays hidden until the DOSBox it spawned is closed so things like the Itch app can tell how long you've been playing, so I'd probably have it watch for a particular file with particular contents to trigger a chive. Or go with a custom ScummVM build I guess 🤷‍♀️

As for nutty not-Steam code in SCI games... only near daily. It's a wonder Quest for Glory 4 even ran at all on contemporary systems.
Screwtape Goldberg Emulator is "a steam api replacement that lets you play games that use the steam multiplayer apis on LAN without needing steam installed".

The main thing I noticed when developing my steam emulator is that too many games seem to be written by people who have no idea what they are doing. They seem to write random code until they get something that works.

The lesson of all emulators ever, I guess. Found anything particularly nutty in SCI games, Kawa?
