this has happened to me in the past, and the only way to fix it is killall Mozilla instances.

Its poor memory accounting I think. TO Be fair to Mozilla, they where calling the UI chrome long before google even had android.

stick bugzilla in any bug queries for firefox.

I meant literally using killall.

firefox chome memory crash bugzila seems to be fruitful.

but once they go full sandboxed multi-process the bug will never get fixed, since it'll become the os's problem.

No, you can just press 'X' on the window and it closes down fine. But I lose my tabs, which is kind of a nuisance.
Mozilla didn't do anything wrong, it's Google that I blame for hijacking a standard term to use as a browser name.

Thanks for the tip. It does become more relevant, but I still don't know what to search for and "Chrome" still means the browser. "firefox ui crash memory bugzilla" doesn't give me anything relevant.

Oh well. I suppose I should just get more RAM. That's the 2019 way to solve things, right?

Visit about:support (type it in to the address bar)
Look at "Application Basics" for Multiprocess Windows and also Web Content Processes, what values do they show?

walk us thru your support process here.

And I recall there was more than 1 firefox process open when it became unresponsive, sureanem-style. I just opened Twitter and it was already becoming laggy, at which point I turned off JS using uMatrix and opened Twitter's no-JS site, which then caused Firefox to freeze.
changing something like that probably needs a full restart of firefox - its probably something it checks on load, but only then. Thats another issue glossed over when they fully ape Chromium's process structure.

There is also the issue when you are trying to select some text, and you wind up dragging an image from many pages back...

I take it your motherboard maker doesn't have win10 drivers for your audio?

No, I know that 'chink' is considered an inappropriate way to refer to a Chinese person, but 'chink box' is standard if informal terminology for this kind of device. Like how you'd say 'chink router' without having anything against Chinese people.

Because you have a Chinese friend, right?

I hate back button hijacking.

I also hate using javascript to re-implement browser functionality

wouldn't updating libc mean you are reinstalling the OS, essentially? Since AFAIK, modules haven't landed in the C standards.

just so we are clear, libc(or glibc) is the C standard library, where printf lives.

im with screwtape, monkey patching isn't a viable solution if you have source access.

heck, what started this current debate was an issue with the update process and not with dynamic linking.

@Nicolas Steel
In the simplest terms: the value of the kilogram is no longer dependent on a single physical object (i.e. the IPK), but rather on a defined mathematical concept.

more correctly, all the base units of the SI system are now defined either as ratios to universal constants, or measurements of physical phenomena.

if bad theming is such an issue for these apps, they could just force theming to be opt in, with a passive aggressive pop-up on first launch stating why theming is disabled.

then again, maybe the theming implementation needs a re-think.
