On Windows, the Qt SDK with precompiled libraries takes 4.5-5 gigabytes for MinGW, and 450-600MB for MSVC2017... why?

Most of that is the pre-compiled binaries... like for every c file and the macro nightmare.

It also depends what the install options for VS are.

HTML5 gives you custom attributes and tags. You'd still need javascript to handle the logic if you want something more complex than a choose your own adventure.

Did you have a look at your TV's Service Menu? There may be an obvious setting in there to remedy the issue with HDMI.
Not actually a lot to mess with in there.
It'd somehow be LESS annoying if the TV just straight-up didn't support full color resolution. That it DOES, but I can't enable it on HDMI, is infuriating.

VGA dongle is working nicely, except for a minor niggling issue. I'm now using motherboard sound instead of the multimedia card's HDMI audio. Which is fine, except that it apparently isn't isolated well. I fire up a game and put a load on the 3D accelerator and suddenly my speakers are mostly just making squealing noises(kinda nostalgic, really, our first 486 did this during disk access).

I've got plans to solve THIS issue as well. I do have an actual PCI-Express sound card I can install. 'S just annoying, is all. But at least it isn't a whole new world of WTFery. This is a problem as old as electronic sound.
(nVidia had a solution for this back when they weren't raging assholes. nForce motherboards had a licensing program, and to activate onboard audio for the optional "SoundStorm" configuration, you had to have a quality sound output implementation, verified by outside testing. Intent: motherboard audio meets high quality standards and people can trust it. Effect: motherboards are more expensive, so no one buys SoundStorm boards.)

Nvidia had the program because video cards are the #1 source of such interference, and AGP being stuck where it was. Since we got PCI-e slots, you can move the video card further from the io backplate and it should help.

I wonder how much of the extra libraries are there because licenses.

*edit* duh, yeah its a licensing issue, virtually every game that uses unity comes with a mono runtime.

Why is such a simple little game more than 30 MB, when most of its bloated mass could be shared with all these other much more intricate games? Because fuck you and fuck your drive space that's why.

As for the Electron thing I just mentioned, that reminds me. Imagine for a moment there's some real creep-ass vulnerability that's found in Chromium, that in turn affects the Chrome browser. Considering their market share, Google quickly figures it out, patches the vulnerability, and releases an update. Your browser is now safe (*scoff*) but... oh dear, you get owned through an interactive fiction interpreter instead.

(at least all these separate copies of SDL are fairly small...)

I appreciate his enthusiasm in doing such, but its just empty gesturing, like Kony 2012 and the facebook thing about cartoon profiles and pedophiles.

Surely you at least agree on Trump being a staunch social conservative?

Surely you are not being serious, because he isn't. Pussy grabbing, and wanton bragging about such isn't social conservatism. You don't have to go far to find a social conservative in the white house, just take a good look at Pence.

you don't know how the DMCA works. There is no "relucant" in dealing with a DMCA take-down notice. the internet archive is based in the US, there isn't an option to ignore DMCA notices. You have to remove the content to file a counter-notice which may very well be the first step to a lawsuit.

Why do you keep on saying stuff without researching?

Upon reflection of several months of owning a 3700x, you're better off with a 3600 or a 3900x. The 37/3800x only exist simply to match against Intel 8 core products. Amd doesn't need the number of skus to compete against Intel. Maybe for zen 3 they'll tighten up that product stack.

you get a bit more thermal headroom, and well, is 4 more threads worth 200 cdn dollars?(250vs450 cdn)

the nnnnx products are just market segmentation for profiteering. the 3700x and 3800x are even identical processors with minimal differences(same basic difference between the 3600 and the 3600x), and a 100 cdn markup(450/550). If you are just gaming then the 3600 is the best value. If you need an upgrade for work, then you might as well stretch the extra 150 and get a 3900x.

if the line up was just parts without x suffixes Zen 2 is still beating intel bloody.

Games will be moving to making good use of 8 core Ryzen CPU's not long after the PS5 and Xbox Two are released next year, so getting a 6 Core CPU would be shooting yourself in the foot imo.

threads, not cores - there is no difference programmatically. The nature of the game loop also limits what exactly can be parallelized anyway.

the better question is, what is it you are upgrading for?

XMP is intel's trademark, it'll be a rare thing on AMD motherboards. look for DOCP. Also update the bios, nab the ryzen master software, and hopefully enjoy the three months of xbox game pass(beta)
